  • The most striking feature of VoIP service is the low cost of International calls
  • A new trend in hospitality is giving guests free limited or unlimited international calls.
  • If your property has a Wi-Fi wireless system for guests, you may offer guests the option of renting the new breed of Wi-Fi VoIP telephones. These look and work much like a normal mobile phone anywhere in your property where the Wi-Fi service is available.
  • The simplest and least expensive way to start offering VoIP service to guests is to use wireless VoIP handsets connected directly with a VoIP service provider.
  • Depending which country you are in, and which countries your guests are most likely to call - you should select your VoIP service provider based on the balance between cost and quality of service for the most important called countries.

What is VoIP and Can You Benefit? - 0 views

After looking at telecommunication, i came across this article which broke down what Voice over Internet protocol (V.O.I.P) is. The article tells us with VoIP service, you are making and receiving telephone calls using the Internet. You do not have to be connected to the telephone company in order to make or receive a telephone call, as long as you have VoIP services and a high-speed Internet connection. I believe using VOIP can help save companies money on long distance and local calls depending on the company they decide to use. Do you feel VOIP will take over land phones? Take a look at this video it explains more to you about VOIP. http://youtu.be/o6CmqaVAf74

This article mentions how Cloud VoIP services could help reduces the costs of utilizing older phone system technologies as well as offer new opportunities for guests to communicate with various departments of the hotel. As cell phones are now basically ubiquitous, the use of in-room telephones in hotels has decreased significantly, making them dead weight. VoIP systems would lower the overhead costs as well as offer guests customized options for contacting valet, food services, or concierge desk. Ultimately the adoption of VoIP phone services would save the hotel significant resources as well as possible increase revenue.

3 Trends to Watch for in VoIP for Hotels - 0 views

  • The popularity of VoIP has grown substantially in the last several years and the rise will no doubt continue.
  • With Hosted PBX, your provider handles the problems for your hotel through the cloud and monitors how the system is operating. Plus, you can enjoy quite a few features of a Hosted PBX setup. These reasons should cement Hosted PBX as a trend throughout 2015.
  • an employee's mobile device becomes the primary VoIP handset

  • allows the employee to always remain connected.
  • 015 should prove to be an exciting year for VoIP, especially in hotels. Voice over Internet Protocol will provide your customers and employees with a solid communications system, and if you take advantage of the above trends, you could very well leave your competition in the dust.
  •
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that is evolving in the hospitality industry. Trending in 2015 will be the use of hosted PBX services which will take the place of the stand alone on-premise system. By utilizing a hosted service businesses should see a cost savings from the freedom of maintenance on a system that is owned and operated by the hotel to the required staff that is needed to monitor the system on a daily basis. With the use of a hosted PBX the host company will be running analytical data and sharing the results with your company, a hosted setup will also be keeping up with technology without you incurring additional expenses of keeping your software updated in the ever changing technology field. This article goes on to talk about mobile integration which in my opinion, will need some tweaking right out of the starting gate. The trend talks about migrating our mobile phones and tablets as a replacement to the desk phone and room phone. This idea will make front desk staff more mobile, but I do see how it will also cause issues with employee abuse on personal calls acting like they are working and also with customers seeing an employee on the phone and automatically thinking the employee is on a personal call. There are still people out there that have not moved up with technology like the vast majority of the population, and they will be the first to complain loudly at the advances coming.

Guess are even given the ability to access many features of the system on or off property. Administratively the system claims to be more functional and easier to use than traditional front desk consoles. if I was the operator I would consider this VoIP system when evaluating phone systems.what I find most attractive is that it to be run in the cloud and various modules can be added based upon the level of service I felt was necessary for my property.

Does the Cloud Make VoIP More Hospitable? - Unified Communications Strategies - 1 views

  • The current technology is creating opportunities for hospitality providers that specialize in hotel technical infrastructure: a hosted provider of not only voice, but PMS, Internet access, premises infrastructure. Several hybrid IP systems now support a gateway mode – where the on-premises solution is effectively a gateway controlling all the analog rooms. Centrally managed and controlled – integrated into a multi-tenant web based PMS – backed by a 24-hour help desk and NOC, could be the ticket to get hospitality VoIP.
  • Two issues are keeping IP out of the rooms: complexity and cost. The local staff just don’t have the time or skills to deal with complex phone systems. Even selling local ads isn’t worth the cost or effort of replacing the system, though these benefits could be more attractive regionally, or even nationally. IP systems make a lot of sense for the business phones, but room phones are likely to remain analog for now due to the cost disparity of the endpoints. IP phones continue to get cheaper, and maintenance of copper lines continues to rise. Eventually, the phones will become IP.
  • The rooms mostly remain analog, but IP phones offer benefits at higher-end properties. IP phones offer the elimination of separate cabling. Hotels could potentially sell ads on the phone that range from color picture ads to speed-dial settings like “Pizza Delivery.” Some vendors are creating optimized phone-top IP applications for hospitality that make it easier to request a car from valet parking, book a tee time, or check out. IP phones could also be designed to be a mini access point to support the increasing number of tablets.
  •
This article talks about 3 stages for the telecommunication development in hotel. Hotel could absolutely use the phone 2 decades ago which is much more convenient to keep in touch with each others because of the lack of the mobile phones. But after the cellphone came out, hotel couldn't make more benefit from the phone calls which were just used for internal communications, morning calls, housekeeping and so on. After 2000, another technology was created which is call VolP( voice over the internet or IP phone) which could do more than a phone, such as Ads on the IP PHone. but it could not be widely used because of the complexity and cost. There is a new technology coming out called cloud which combines all the stuffs-- Telephones, PMS, Internet, and cable plant together and make employees or customers easier to learn. For example,a hosted provider of not only voice, but PMS, Internet access, premises infrastructure. Several hybrid IP systems now support a gateway mode - where the on-premises solution is effectively a gateway controlling all the analog rooms. Centrally managed and controlled - integrated into a multi-tenant web based PMS - backed by a 24-hour help desk and NOC, could be the ticket to get hospitality VoIP.

An unssuspecting person check into a hotel like any normal person would. The ever so common exchange, credit card for room key took place. The only difference was that the person that checked had done so with other intentions. The "guest" utilized an IP Telephone that was in this hotel room to hack into the hotel credit card database and steal credit cards, transmit them to a foreign country and then have money transferred to his offshore bank account. This happened but at the hands of Jason Ostrom, aa Vigilar senior security consultant. Ostrom was able to unplug teh telephone in his room, plug in the phone's ethernet canle into his laptop and hack away. Of course, he did this as part of his job in testing a company's security agaisnt viral hackers. His company offers free security testing using a downloadable software called VolP Hopper This article was extremely interesting because as a frequrnt traveler as well as a perosn in the hospitlaity industry I was very shocked at the ease that the credit card information could be stolen. When it comes to credit card security it is of the utmost importance for companies to be PCI compliant and spend whatever it is necessary to safeguard the information of their customers. The detrimental damage that a security breach can have on a person can be debilitating as leaders in the hospitality industry we must do everything possible to prevent attacks like this from happening. made me become extra cautious about using my credit cards.

Considering Convergence: How VoIP Has Influenced the Hotel Industry: Part 1 - 15 views

  • having an IP telephone in a standard guest room is becoming the norm, rather than the exception
  • Today, let's focus on the hotel/hospitality market, and their shift away from traditional telephony. As with any new technology, some examples in the "market" are quicker to adopt new technology earlier than others. What drives this interest and migration to new technology? It's usually competition.
  • As these devices become cheaper, it's only practical for the hospitality industry to move away from traditional telephony. Analog telephony is becoming a liability. Maintaining thousands of feet of cable, supporting two cable plants (voice and data), is becoming a thing of the past.

Hotel Management Software Company and Leading VOIP Provider Team up to Bring Web-based ... - 0 views

Two Companies have come together to provide services to hotels at a cost efficient price that can provide features, control, and reporting capabilities of an expensive system. Frontdesk Anywhere Inc. will provide their software capabilities with RingCentral's telephone services. Frontdesk Anywhere Inc. provides web- based hotel management software that enables hotels and hotel groups better manage sales and guest interaction processes. RingCentral is a business phone system provider that offers cloud- based systems that can be accessed from anywhere via softphone desktop software, allowing access to any room from anywhere and in particularly their front desk. These two companies combined services will allow hotels to focus on their guests rather than their IT needs. I think this is a great investment for hotels. Most people spend a lot of time trying to figure their systems out rather than putting their extra effort into their guests. I believe that having the ability to access these services from anywhere also offers them a great advantage. And, most importantly it comes at a low monthly rate.

Telecommunication - 0 views

  •
Telecommunication is an area in the industry that has driven the productivity of all employees and the efficiency of processed information and future growth. One of the examples of telecommunication would be the PBX voice switch which can be used to facilitate data and video communication, enhancing security. Offering a competitive advantage the PBX has become more then just a voice switch, since its improvement housekeeping is able to moderate the room status directly from the room and guest can choose to checkout by dialing out in the room. Inclusively, systems can be interfaced with videophones which allow the user to see and decide on the visitors they would allow entering their room using VoIP (Voice over IP). VoIP provides cost efficiency, productivity, customer capabilities and enhancing access to information. Another useful form of telecommunication is wireless paging systems where it keeps employees from different departments accessible incase of any emergency. In my opinion, telecommunication has been a great advantage in the industry. It has improved in various ways through out the years and it continues to grow and allowing the customer experience to become a one of a kind with the efficiency that it offers. Guest is able to become more independent during their stay even when checking out of their rooms. Telecommunication has even provided employees with more ease at work by creating a system where housekeeping department is able to press a button on the phone of the room, which changes the status of the rooms immediately instead of having to inspect the room and then change status on the computer system. I still believe this new technology is great, but I stand firm that the older crowd (baby boomers) and those that do not speak the language (English) still prefer the human interaction for instance, at checkout time. The Y generation is more prone to be excited about all these new gadgets and independent ways of getting things done.
  •
Telecommunication provides many benefits for hotel. It makes the housekeepers' work easier by change the room status in room rather than on computer system. And each user have separate number, so the outside call will directly received without go through the operator. Hotel does not need to hire a telephone operator.

IT in hospitality - Express Computer - 1 views

  • Hospitality is amongst the fastest growing sectors in India today, with domestic and foreign tourism, and increased business travelers fueling this momentum. The sector is known to hold as much promise for the country as the much touted IT, ITeS and manufacturing industries. India’s travel and tourism industry is expected to grow 8.4% this year and 8% annually between now and 2016, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council. Conventionally having stayed away from technology, the hotel industry in India is observing a sea change—in its objective and management’s role towards delivering quality customer service. ‘Service’, related to personalized care and hospitality, is finding a friend in advanced systems and gadgets that enhance the service delivered.

The number of the India's travel and tourism industry is grow 8.4% in 2008 and will be 8% more increase between now and 2016 according to the World Travel and Tourism Council. The hospitality industry should know the customers needs and the goal of the meeting them should be figured out in such a way that the cost of offering the service(s) does not pinch the company balance sheet i.e. variable costs should not show fluctuations northwards. Marketing gurus would always adhere to one statement for advice: cost need to be justifiable through high probability of ROI. The selection of technology in itself is a vital step. Another global feature that is extremely important is a detailed guest, group and company records. Used with a variety of customized reports, these detailed records allow precise targeting of various marketing efforts to improve occupancy rates, increase yield and enhance strategic planning. Each module should have a customizable report selection menu. The reports should have provision for sorting and filtering of data to enable viewing of the exact information might be required at a moment's notice. A good PMS enables a hospitality enterprise to increase revenue and occupancy, improve guest loyalty and reduce costs by centralizing and streamlining your operations. Forward-thinking properties have already begun building a network infrastructure that offers the flexibility and scalability to adapt to the ever-evolving guest, staff, and property management needs.
