This article presents relevant information for our human development class as well as resources for further research. How This Influenced My Thinking:  Brain development greatly influences me and I am always looking for information that I can put into practice. McKenna Ph.D. Date Published: October 1997 Why Relevant and Summary: This article brings up research about cosleeping (not from the past 10 years sadly). It brings up the links with SIDS and the benefits to the mother and child who practice co-sleeping. How this influenced my thinking: These findings showed me that there are benefits to co-sleeping and that bonding can take place while sleeping. Credibility of source: Ph.D. Research done at University of California's Irvine School of Medicine.

Breus Date Published: August 17, 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: This article offers a study doing on a variety of lower class cultures and their children whom have co-slept with there parents. The researcher test their cognitive skills and behavior development. How This Influenced My Thinking: This influence my way of thinking that bonding can happen even while sleeping. Credibility of Source: the article was written by an author with a Ph.D and was found on Psychology Today.

Title: Middle Childhood (6-8 years of age) Author: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Date Published: August 12, 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: Well this is relevant because it talks about middle childhood and what it is that can and will most likely affect children. It is actually useful information that I found to be interesting because there are things that even I did not know. How this Influenced My Thinking: It influenced my thinking by making me realize that middle childhood was perhaps the most important time in a child's life that mattered the most to them. looking back now at y middle childhood I can see why it was so important. that's the period in time where things changed for me and I know changed for every other kid around me. Credibility: It is from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, which is a Government Website.

How this influenced my thinking:It helped me to understand what I was going through when my parents got divorced. Also helps me to understand what other children might go through and how to be a supportive friend or family member. Credibility: This site seems to be credible.

How to approach them and how to explain it to them . How this Influenced My Thinking: This made me realize that there are more ways to talk about sex and puberty to a child than how I got talked to. It made me think how I will someday talk to my child about puberty and sex. Credibility: It came from the Focus on Family website which seems to have quite a lot of great resources.

Title:More tha a funny word Author: the Nemours Foundation Date Published:2013 Why Relevant and Summary: This is a great overall summary of puberty ad adresses the changes that occur during this time in everyone's lives. this wesite is specifically aimed for teenagers so it is easy follow and yet very informative. How This Influenced My Thinking: Gave me great perspective on the types of changes that occur during puberty and the way it is worded and writte made me feel like i was 16 again being reassured that what i am feeling is totally natural. Title: Violent Video Games Are a Risk Factor for Criminal Behavior and Aggression Author: Matt Delisi, Craig Anderson, Douglas Gentile, Angie Hunt Date: March 26, 2013 Why relevant and summary: I'll be discussing whether or not violent video games should be banned in this critical thinking assignment, and this is a study that supports my view that violent video games should be banned. How this influenced my thinking: It reinforced what I believe: violent media should be restricted. Violent video games should be banned. Parents need to take responsibility for what they are letting their kids interact with. Did excessive playing of violent video games cause Adam Lanza to massacre 26 innocent souls? It was definitely a significant factor, coupled with serious mental health problems. This article encouraged me to also see that there may be a middle ground between banning the games and free access. Maybe some educational resources for parents need to be made publicly available and easily accessible, so that they have the tools they need to discourage/disallow violent media in the home.

Title: Cognitive Functioning in Early Adulthood Author: Bold, M Date published: 1999 Why relevant and summary: There is not alot about Perry's theory on this website but it gives a nice brief description of different theories, including Perry's. How it changed my thinking: Was interesting seeing them all outlined like that. Credibility of source: seems credible.

Title: Catholic Marriage Preparations Author: NA Date Published: NA Why Relevant and Summary: This website is very helpful if one is planning to get married in the Catholic Church. Although it's only an outline of the marriage preparation classes, it definitely helps to give the key points of what is needed before getting married such as sacraments and also includes how Religion plays an important role within the marriage. How this influenced my Thinking: This website made me realize what a marriage consist of. For many people like me one usually thinks that married life is the best time of one's life and there is no problems that come with it, but reality is that a lot of work has to be put towards the marriage from both parts in order to have a successful marriage. This article definitely made it clear that a marriage has a lot of components. Credibility: Seems credible since it's from a parish website

Title: Take Dr. Oz RealAge Test Author: The Dr. Oz Show Date Published: N.D. Why relevant and summary: These three link were about determining your real age. The Dr.'s explain that there are many factors that age you. Food ages you, if you eat fast food you age faster. Also, the amount of exercise that you do also impacts how fast you age. Genetics also play a major role in your aging process. How it influenced my thinking: I was already aware that the food you eat ages you as well as the amount of exercise that you do. I did find it quite interesting that 80% of the aging process we are in control of such as having a healthy lifestyle. Credibility: Seems credibly…Dr. Oz.

A few of the benefits that many agreed on were that there was better one on one care and that they were able to become closer to their families. How this Influenced my Thinking: This was a very insightful article on why most elder people would rather be cared for in home versus in a facility. Credibility: This website conducted research on this topic.

It talks about an overall wellness, spiritually, mentally, and physically. It discusses worrying about things that one shouldn't, and enviromental factors that affect the successful aging of an individual. This article is geared towrds older folks and offers great advice of what an aging individual should implement in order to "age successfully" How This Influenced My Thinking: This article gave me great insight as to what many older people face on a daily basis of aging. This article has made me think of how the younger generations should take all this into account while we are drinking our livers to death. Title:Selective optimization with compensation Author: many Date published:1999 Why relevant and summary: This site is a wikipedia psychology site that provides the reader with an explanation of what SOC is. It also gives a great example of a 75 year man who tries to maximize his cognitive resources. Further more, it breaks down the word 'selective optimization with compensation' and tells you what each word implies on its own, and how all the words as a whole make up the meaning of the theory. How this influenced my thinking: This influenced my thinking by providing me with a great example of SOC in a way that really helped my understanding of it. The idea of SOC makes perfect sense and i can see why psychologists use it when they are talking about successful aging. Credibility of source: I feel like the site was pretty credible.
