Title: Kohlberg Author: Saul McLeod Date Published: 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: This article found on simplypsychology.org gives a descriptive over view of each of the 6 moral stages theory by Lawrence Kohlberg. It also discusses the criticism of his theory by Gilligan. Gilligan claimed that women and men were determined using the same standard because original studies were solely based on men. Gilligan says women approach situations from an "ethics of care" rather than from and "ethics of justice" ..changing the stage that women and men most often ended up in. How This Influenced My Thinking: It gave me a better understanding of the way that Kohlberg approached this study and how Gilligan opposed the findings. The article was very clear and presented the information to be easily understood. Credibility of Source:Somewhat -Credible citations were used in the writing of this article.

How this influenced my thinking: It was great to read about Kohlberg's theory from sources outside of the textbook. This site breaks it down in a well-organized fashion and offers excellent descriptions and examples. Credibility of source: It appears to be featured on a college webpage, maybe put out by the psych department. Credibility of source: May or may not be credible. Appears to be a college professor's website.

According to the study done, "… actual behavior is not necessary for the press of moral emotions to have effect." How This Influenced My Thinking: Shows the power of guilt and shame. Just feeling those feelings is enough to stop us from doing something that would benefit us. Credibility of Source: High

The author discusses their finding after having researched what makes a happy marriage; clear communication, flexibility, and other characteristic of the marriage are what creates the happiness. How This Influenced My Thinking: For the most part it didn't. It reinforced what Ii already what created a happy marriage. Credibility: it was a article published by a .org website

title: 10 Strengths to a happy marriage Author: unknown Date: 2010 Why relevant and summary: I really liked this article it was brief interesting and to the point. It is a reflection on a study conducted on more than 21,000 couples in all the United states and gives 10 easy tips on what to do to improve your marriage and also gives the top 10 reasons that cause problems for a marriage. I think it is an easy piece to read for everyone at every stage of their married life. How it changed my thinking: Most of the tips are common sense that everyone will agree to it but more than often we fail to follow; reading them kind of reinforces their message. Credibility of source: The website "first things first" is a non profit grass roots organization that came to be as a tool to help the residents of Hamilton county , Tennessee. Apparently they have a high divorce rate and other relationship and children rearing issues and this website offers advice, support and education on hoe to deal with family problems on a day to day basis. Dozens of books are written every year about the things that go wrong in marriage. Now one of America's foremost marriage researchers has evaluated the things that go right in marriage. David H. Olson, founder of Life Innovations and one of the creators of the Prepare/Enrich marriage enrichment tools, has surveyed 21,501 married couples in all 50 states to identify the top ten strengths of happy marriages.

Title:Why I Love My 50-Year-Old Body Date Published: January 7, 2013 Author: Dr. Lisa Kaplin Why Relevant and Summary: this article is relevant because it talks about the body at age 50. it tell people to love their body and not to discourage or be ashamed of it. it explains how to maintain being healthy and hoe to eat right at 50. it is a useful article for those who have body image issues at an older age. How This Influenced My Thinking: this made me realize that people have major body image issues even after they are older. it makes me stop and think that even through all that these older folk have been through, somehow the image that is distilled on the younger generation caught up to the older generation and made them want to be in their 20's all over again when their bodies were at the peak of being viewed as beautiful. Credibility: it was published by a doctor who has study within this field. seem pretty credible to me.

Why Relevant and Summary: This goes over how to handle discussing divorce with children, what might be expected. and how to react to children's behaviour. Gives a list of what to try to do, and what to avoid. How this Influenced my Thinking: This showed me that there are multiple reasons for divorce, and how children usually feel fear when they dont know what will be happening to their family. this also showed me that family divorce counseling might not always be favorable. Credibility: Empowering Parents website that won an iParenting media award. ideas, not straight facts.

How This Influenced My Thinking: This article showed when, how, and why the BMI method was established, and its shortcomings for accurately assesing body fatness. Credibility of Source: 6- Published by a credible source, but references not cited at end of text.

Summary and why relevant: This article defines what a BMI is and how the doctors calculates a child's BMI. The article also discussing reasons for why a child may become obese. How this influenced my thinking: This article gave me a better understanding of how children's body mass index was calculated. Credibility of source: well known website that is frequently used to answer questions.

How This Influenced My Thinking: It gave me more knowledge on the topic. It informs you what else child obesity can lead to if it's not treated. Credibility of Source: Seems credible.

Author: John Matson Date Published: June 16, 2011 Why Relevent: This is a fascinating article about the reasons evolutionarily that we resemble or parents. It makes sense and explains how hte theory was tested. How It Influenced My Thinking: I remember watching a TV show a while ago that showed this phenomenon in monkeys of some kind. I recall that this was new information to me, however I was not surprised. It makes total sense. Nature is brilliant. Credibility of Source: Very credible. Title: Birthing Options Author: Woman's Health Date Published: 2013 Why Relevant and Summary: The Reason why this is relevant is because it has several different birthing options. It talks about pregnancy, things to consider, possible locations for birth, and methods for birth. How This Influenced My Thinking: I hadn't realized how many different birth methods there were. Credibility of Source: It seems credible, the article is very informative and the website has a lot information on women's health

Title: The Alarming Reason Why More Girls are Starting Puberty Early Author: Dr. Joseph Mercola Date Published: August 26, 2010 Why Relevant and Summary: This article was relevant because it explains a great deal of information that be or may not be factors in why girls are going through puberty at much younger ages than they once were just 20 years ago. In this article, Dr. Mercola explains some of the largest factors or early onset of puberty and explains why those things may cause early childhood puberty. How This Influenced My Thinking: This didn't so much influence my thinking as it confirmed my belief that chemicals in the food our children eat may very well play a major role in when they begin puberty. Credibility of Source: I find this article to be highly credible, Dr. Mercola seems to have done extensive research on the topic as well as included the input of other knowledgeable professionals.

Credibility of Source: I believe it to be moderately credible since it is under the yahoo mental health tab bar. It was written by a yahoo network contributor.

The analogies and summaries were helpful to understand the ecological systems better. How This Influenced My Thinking: This journal helped me understand everything a little bit better to where I can think more. I was able to actually think about what I wanted to say and how to say it without being blocked from the unknowns. Credibility of Source: This journal pulled information from other resources and cited them. So I believe it is credible.

It is a great article about the findings of the Human Genome Project that analyzes and lists the reason why we should take very seriously the role of environment into human development. How This Influenced My Thinking: It has given me a different perspective on how I see disease, illness and good health. Credibility of Source: It is published on NOVA, and the author is a doctor of genetics.

The author gives many examples for each side and how nature and nurture work together. How This Influenced My Thinking: It really opened my mind to seeing both sides of the debate. Credibility of Source: This article was posted to a psychology website and contained a great number of references, I see this as a very credible source.
