It gives examples of methods use to deliver a baby. How This Influenced My Thinking: Although i was aware of this form of childbirth method, I was not aware of the terminology that doctors use, and how complex childbirth actually is. It has open my eyes to the variety of methods. Credibility of Source: This source was somewhat credible. This website is useful if wanting to get an overview of the topic or if one is new to topic. This source is a good way to begin with research, however more extensive research should be done.

Title: Researching cause and effect Author: Lance Jones Date published: Jan 15th, 2012 Why is this relevant: This power point is relevant because it gives you many recources that would help someone understand what cause and effect is. For example, it provides you with background information on it, states the 3 main characteristics of it, on top of providing you with many examples that really help your understanding of the topic. The slide is very user-friendly and easy to understand. It even provides synonyms for words in case you don't understand. How this influenced my thinking: It has influenced my thinking in a couple ways. One, i never knew there were so many aspects to cause and effect. There are two variables that must be related, two sides to the correlation, and the cause must come before the effect and not vise versa. Two, it really helped me understand why a person would use the cause and effect method, and also why it might not be the best method for some types of studies. Credibility of source: Although id like to think this comes from a very credible source, there is not really anything on the site that indicates it is....

Title: Habituation - The Most Basic Form of Learning Author: Kendra Cherry Date Published: no date Why Relevant and Summary: I found this short excerpt helpful in defining habituation, but also explaining how this process is a method of learning for infants. How This Influenced my Thinking: This made me think about how infants use this as a method of learning; after observing an object until it is instilled in memory and moving along to newer objects and stimuli further their knowledge. Its the beginning of their being "scientists" and observing their environment and assessing it. Credibility of Source: recognized the journalist, informational website with section for Psychology and has other topics about infant development

It talks about pregnancy, things to consider, possible locations for birth, and methods for birth. How This Influenced My Thinking: I hadn't realized how many different birth methods there were. Credibility of Source: It seems credible, the article is very informative and the website has a lot information on women's health

Author: Ann Hallemans Date Published: May 2007 Why Relevant and Summary: This article is relevant to the study because it demonstrate a longitudinal study done on infant of the earlier stages of walking. It also provides research done and the methods that were included as well. How This Influenced My Thinking: This had influence my way of thinking by now knowing that earlier development is in walking is not only with our nervous system but as well with our mental capability. Credibility of Source: Scholarly article found on EBSCOhost.

The article discusses the ways that babies begin to understand and categorize words long before a child actually verbalizes. It touches base on the way that adults interact with babies/infants greatly aids language development. How This Influenced My Thinking: This did not influence my thinking but gave me better understanding of how language development begins with categorization. Credibility of Source:This is a credible source. It is a write up of the extensive research done by Dr. Marianella Casasola and Associate Professor of Human Development at Cornell University.

Although its helpful when deciding on what types of childbirths to use it does not go into too much detail about each of the methods.

It is relevant to "child birth and culture" because it goes over different methods of birth that not only American cultures use, but other cultures as well. There is a lot of interesting information that is provided in the website and it's also very insightful. author: Baby zone editors Date published: ND How this influenced my thinking: This article really opened my eyes to various types of child birth and the pros and cons that each one has. I had never really considered any other type of birth besides medicated birth in a hospital, but it was very interesting to read about the benefits of water birth. Credibility of source: The source seems to be credible. It was written by the editors of Disney.

Title: Guided Participation Author: Zeynep Isik-Ercan & Susan Golbeck - The Gale Group Date Published: 2009 Why Relevant & Summary: Not only explains what Guided Participation is, but also it's roots from both Vygotsky & Barbara Rogoff from her book "Apprenticeship in Thinking." How This Influenced My Thinking: It elaborated upon the information from the textbook, explained how social interaction plays a role in cognitive development, and the origins of the guided participation concept. Credibility of Source: Great - lots of references at the bottom of this article.

The article talks about how guided participation helps the child to achieve their goals. How this influenced my thinking: Helps me to realize the method of teaching I can do for my children so they will teach others the same way. Credibility of Source: There is a bibliography at the end to cite their sources that are equivalent to the sources of theory used.

Title: Helping kids cope with seperation and divorce Author: Jocelyn Block Date Published: Nov 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: This article is a parents guide to supporting children during divorce. It describes the needs and expectations needed for healthy coping through divorce. Children need reassurance, stability, patience, and love even more during a divorce. Keeping these important staples intact will help the child deal with divorce. It discusses how kids are going to express their feelings and red flags for more serious problems developing due to divorce. How This Influenced My Thinking: I have always thought that no matter what the parents do the children involved in divorces will feel the repercussions and that there is nothing that parents can do to fix it. This false belief that I have had is untrue-many children that are provided stable,secure, and loving homes after divorce learn to cope and turn out to be just fine. But it is all dependent on the parents methods of making the divorce less traumatic for the child. Credibility of Source: Its credible- the authors are doctors.

It was put in a clear concise way with explainations How This Influenced My Thinking: I was a child of divorce, but at an age where it wasn't as impactful. It was interesting to see what my parents did right and wrong. Credibility of Source: Written by MA's and a PhD-High

The article gives detailed tips in how to help your children cope with a divorce. How This Influenced My Thinking:This helped me understand why it is need to focus on the children during a divorce proceeding and how divorce can effect a child. Credibility of Source: very reliable source the authors have M.A's and Ph.D's.

This scale offers subtests that measures intelligence by verbal and nonverbal performance. How This Influenced My Thinking: I was able to better understand the different subtests that makes up the Wechsler Intelligence scale. Bensing Date Published: Aug. 3, 2006 Why relevant and summary: This is a really great look into aging successfully and what that process entails. It delves into selective optimization with compensation. The authors argue that proactive coping - attempting to prevent potential stressors that are the cause of this decrease in resources - may be a valuable strategy for successful aging. The authors also present this theory as a method of postponing disengagement from daily activities. How this influenced my thinking: I have not given much thought to aging, although I know it is happening and will continue to happen. I've always just kind of viewed the elderly with a distant form of respect coupled with a bit of sorrow. Let's face it, who wants to get old? Yet, this will happen to all of us unless (god forbid) some unforseen tragedy strikes first. Reading about ways to gracefully and successfully age and avoid or postpone disengagement, will go a long way as people enter older adulthood. When I reach older adulthood, I hope to be as active as that 106 year old man who started running marathons in his 80s!
