Especially in this global market where we trade with partners from all over the world, having an understanding of their culture and background better prepares us to make sound decisions. For those who study abroad gives them a great advantage to thrive and not feel outcasted and socially neglected. How this has influenced my thinking: I was not aware that CI was being studied and promoted and I think it is a great idea for our children to develop. Title: 7 Tips for a Successful Marriage Author: Tim Dowling Date: 8 February 2013 Why relevant and summary: This article provides seven solid tips for maintaining a healthy and successful marriage. For example, Dowling says, "go to bed angry if you want to" because you're better off getting a good night's sleep before tackling the conflict again. Another good tip is to remember that every relationship is unique and it is damaging to compare yours to other relationships. I think the other gives some pretty solid, yet basic marriage advice that couples considering marriage should read. How this influenced my thinking: I have been married and divorced, and am in another relationship that is progressing toward marriage. I hope to avoid the mistakes made in my first marriage, so articles like this one apply directly to my personal life. However, no matter how good the advice is, you've got to make sure you're marrying someone you can absolutely be with through thick and thin. The article covers different parts of the body and how age effect them. For example, the parts of the body the article covers is the cardiovascular system, bones, joints, and muscles. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article gave me a more in depth perception on how the choices we making in our middle adulthood can effect the life expectancy of our life. Title: Brain Education Exercise Tips For Successful Aging Author: Ju Eun Shin Date: 07-22-2011 Why relevant and summary: Since life expectancy has been growing steady the last few decades in the US, the aging population has been in the center of attention for the society and government. This article points out some very useful tips, that the elderly can use to keep their brain active and improve not only their health but the quality of live as well. I really liked the facial release exercises that help with reliving the tension. How has this influenced my opinion: As my parents are getting older I want to know more about ways, tips and exercises on how to keep them healthy not only physically but mentally as well. Credibility: This was published on an online magazine called "BrainWorld" published by the International Brain Education Association (IBREA), a nonprofit educational organization in Canada.

This article also outlines many key factors that may come into play when middle aged adults decide to get a divorced. How has this influenced my thinking: It didn't, but it was interesting to see the shocking fact that divorce rates were highest among middle aged adults. How This Influenced My Thinking: This helped influence my thinking because I'll be more aware of what goes on in each stage so when I have children I'll know how my baby should be developing. Title: Helping Your Child Through a Divorce Author: Michelle New, PhD Date Published: Updated 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: This site if very helpful because it gives several examples of how one can tell ones child that they are going through a divorce. It also goes through the different ages in children and how they might react to the divorce. Overall, this article is great for helping one cope with a divorce as well as ways to help your child cope with a divorce without making much damage. How this influenced my thinking: My parent are still together, so I was never exposed to any divorce issues, but I do remember having friends whose parents were divorced so I knew it was a hard process especially for my friends. Because I don't talk to my high school friends anymore, I honestly wasn't sure what the negative outcomes were of a divorce, but after reading this site all of the pain and sorrow from my friends came back. Everything that was mentioned especially about teens reactions were the way that my friends reacted during their parent's divorce. Credibility: This site seems to be credible.

How This Influenced My Thinking: There were some great tips on parenting after the divorce and some great example on how to help your child cope with the situation. I thought it did a great job of explaining how the child may feel and how to address those feelings. Credibility of Source: Author has their PhD and the website is a credible website

It discusses how to break the news to them, giving them consistency, how to parent as single parents, and not bringing arguements to them. How this influenced my thinking:I believe that it is very important to never argue in front of children. When this happens, children may feel like they need to choose sides. If at all possible, parents should try and be civil with one another and hopefully end the marriage on good terms. Credibility of source:Credible

Author: Cristen Conger Date Published: April 7th, 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: It details the disengagement theory and discusses how the study that produced this theory began and how the scholarly community regarded this theory. It also briefly compares it to other theories of aging that eventually developed. How This Influenced My Thinking: It gave a nice background to how the Disengagement Theory came about. It also is a good reminder that theories can become outdated. Just because a popular opinion is also a theory, it does not necessarily make it factual or "right." Credibility of Source: OK. Author: Cristen Conger Date Published: April 7, 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: Thoroughly explains the Disengagement Theory; identifies the positive and negative opinions of it and how it affects multiple relationships in the life of an elderly individual. Provides scenarios with which to examine the Disengagement Theory; enabled me to understand the effects it had on the elderly individual. How This Influenced My Thinking: I was able to compare and contrast it to a very opposite theory in successful aging, the Activity Theory. It forced me to think of ways in which the Disengagement Theory could have positive outcomes and influences on an elderly individual and their surrounding environment. Credibility of Source: Through Discovery Health, seems fairly credible.

Title: The Development of Self-Esteem Author: Sue and Jo Date Published: No Date Why Relevant and Summary: This is a straightforward summary of a child's cognitive development of self-esteem. Although it doesn't include many details of what contributes to a child's self-esteem it does clearly define what its makeup is. How This Influenced My Thinking: This was interesting to me because it summed up the definition of self-esteem in a nutshell. I am personally interested in how to promote a healthy self-esteem in children but this website gives a good foundation for the outline of what self-esteem is and what factors affect it. Credibility of Source: It looks like it's some sort of personal website; however, it does cite studies and seems to back up its statements with scientific data.

Title: Identity formation Author: Rice and Dolgen Date published: 2002 Why relevant and summary: This article was a good summary of identity formation and a good in-depth look at James Marcia's four identity status' that make up his theory of identity formation. How this influenced my thinking: I have always been intrigued about what makes people who they are and why some have such a strong personality or sense of who they are while others seem lost as to who they are. This article made me think that mabe the amount of dramatic experiences one faces creates their personality or who they want to be. Credibility of source: I think this came from a book, seems credible most of the info was very similar to wikipedia.

Title: Identity Formation Author: Rice and Dolgin Date Published: 2009 Why Relevant and summary: On this article it discusses different stages that an individual may be in or is going through regarding their identity. It goes in depth on identity formation stages, regarding politics, religion, a vocational goal and more clearly defined sex roles. How this influenced my thinking: I can relate to it because I can relate to some of the stages and understand them better. I also became more informed. Credibility of Source: It seems credible I believe it came from a book perhaps even a textbook.
