Title: Lev Vygotsky Author: Saul McLeod Date Published: 2007 Why Relevant and Summary: Talks about Vygotsky and the theories that he created. It also has a good comparison between Vygotsky and Piaget. How This Influenced My Thinking: It was good additional material that went more in depth on the topic, and had some information that the textbook did not cover. Credibility of Source: Good - the author is a professor at Wigan and Leigh college.

Title:Lev Vygotsky Author:Saul McLeod Date Published:2007 Why Relevant and Summary:Detailed background information about Vygotsky and how his theory differs from Piaget's theory. The effects of Vygotsky's theory is presented and there is also a video that talks about the differences of both theories. How This Influenced My Thinking:I learned a lot more about Vygotsky and how his and Piaget's theory differ from one another. Credibility of Source:Credible.

Title: Lev Vygotsky Author: Saul McLeod Date Published: 2007 Why Relevant and Summary: This article was relevant to the writing assignment because it helped me understand that an important concept to the Zone of Proximal Development relates to the difference between what a child can achieve independently and what a child needs guidance with. How This Influenced My Thinking: This helped me know that children should have somewhat of independence and freedom to learn skills that'll benefit them in the future. This will teach the child to be responsible and to be independent. Credibility of Source: very credible

This site goes into detail of the different parenting styles and gives background examples of child qualities and parenting styles. How This Influenced My Thinking: This mademe aware of the different styles and how it could effect children, so it made me know which parenting style I would like to take on. Credibility of Source: This is credible due to the citations and that it comes from an original source document.

Title: Helping kids cope with seperation and divorce Author: Jocelyn Block Date Published: Nov 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: This article is a parents guide to supporting children during divorce. It describes the needs and expectations needed for healthy coping through divorce. Children need reassurance, stability, patience, and love even more during a divorce. Keeping these important staples intact will help the child deal with divorce. It discusses how kids are going to express their feelings and red flags for more serious problems developing due to divorce. How This Influenced My Thinking: I have always thought that no matter what the parents do the children involved in divorces will feel the repercussions and that there is nothing that parents can do to fix it. This false belief that I have had is untrue-many children that are provided stable,secure, and loving homes after divorce learn to cope and turn out to be just fine. But it is all dependent on the parents methods of making the divorce less traumatic for the child. Credibility of Source: Its credible- the authors are doctors.

It was put in a clear concise way with explainations How This Influenced My Thinking: I was a child of divorce, but at an age where it wasn't as impactful. It was interesting to see what my parents did right and wrong. Credibility of Source: Written by MA's and a PhD-High

Title: Children and Divorce: Helping Kids Cope with Separation and Divorce Author: Jocelyn Block, M.A., Gina Kemp, M.A., Melinda Smith, M.A., and Jeanne Segal, Ph.D. Date Published: November 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: This article is very detailed with handling a divorce with children. The article gives detailed tips in how to help your children cope with a divorce. How This Influenced My Thinking:This helped me understand why it is need to focus on the children during a divorce proceeding and how divorce can effect a child. Credibility of Source: very reliable source the authors have M.A's and Ph.D's.

Title: Peer Relations in Middle Childhood Author: Blume & Zembar Date: n.d. Why Relevant and Summary: This article explains how friendship is important in middle childhood. Whether or not someone likes you or dislikes you can really make or break a person. Friends provide all the needs the one self can use at that time and in the future. For one of them being a need for survival because in middle childhood friendship is based on people liking you which then determines their popularity status. Also discussed in this article is the individual need for success, power, status, approval, autonomy, and etc. It also expresses the concerns of rejection in children at this age and it affects them. How this influenced my thinking: This helped my understanding of why it is important for us to connect with others and increase our social skills. I have found a new understanding of the word friendship from this article. Credibility: Seems credible because they cited quotes.

Zembar Date Published: 2007 Why relevant and summary: great information on research and finding of socialization patterns- shows a strong correlation between playground play and future choices in adult relationships. The habit forming patters of socialization developed at an early age impact how we relate to people as we become older. How this influenced my thinking: I was not aware how big of an impact peer relations/friendships in middle childhood had on adults. Credibility of source: seems very credible. As well, the different parenting styles can predict the behavior of the child and even the potential parenting skills. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article furthered my understanding of the four different types of parenting styles and how the different styles can effect the outcome of the child's behavior. Credibility of Source: Very credible, author has a PhD and MS. Also the author cites credible sources.

How this influenced my thinking: I have found some good resources and easy tips on how to help children manage weight. Credibility: very credible government website with citation of resources.

Author: Keith Olbermann Date Published: November 10, 2008 Why Relevent and Summary: When talking about gay marriage, I think this speech sums up my views on the pro side and my confusion with those opposed. This is a must read!! How This Influenced Me: I felt like someone was in my head when I first heard Keith Olbermann deliver this "Special Comment". He so eloquently spoke directly from my heart. Credibility: Opinion piece from a News Anchor, doesn't need to be credible.

Author : Satoshi Kanazawa Date : 10/03/2010 Why Relevant and Summary: It's relevant because in my paper, I discuss the debate of age difference in relationships. This article provides support in the maturation of girls and boys and why some people prefer the age difference and why some people may not. How This Influenced My Thinking It helps my thinking to understand where my husband and I are at in our marriage to where we were when we dated in high school. I was more mature than he was, but now he has matured and to be more intelligent than I am but we are equally mature enough. We are also 3 days apart in age.

For example, Dowling says, "go to bed angry if you want to" because you're better off getting a good night's sleep before tackling the conflict again. Another good tip is to remember that every relationship is unique and it is damaging to compare yours to other relationships. I think the other gives some pretty solid, yet basic marriage advice that couples considering marriage should read. How this influenced my thinking: I have been married and divorced, and am in another relationship that is progressing toward marriage. I hope to avoid the mistakes made in my first marriage, so articles like this one apply directly to my personal life. However, no matter how good the advice is, you've got to make sure you're marrying someone you can absolutely be with through thick and thin. It discusses the facts of what will be happening to the body as a women ages and how to deal with accepting the fact that changes are happening. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article discusses many aspects in ones life that can affect the way a women feels about herself at 50. It made a good point that if you have compulsive thoughts about aging you will start to drive yourself crazy - a thought that will make you feel like you are living to the tic-toc of the clock. Title: The Art of Aging Gracefully Author: Katherine Kam Date: 2013 Why Relevant : Talks about the aging stages and encouraging of women can overcome it and what they can do when they finally do accept it. How this influenced me: It helps me to look at my life because I fear turning 30! I can't imagine the types of things I may feel when I get to my 40's. But this helps me to boost up my confidence level and to really want to live life at that stage. Credibility: Not sure but like the info.
