Title: Violent Video Games Are a Risk Factor for Criminal Behavior and Aggression Author: Matt Delisi, Craig Anderson, Douglas Gentile, Angie Hunt Date: March 26, 2013 Why relevant and summary: I'll be discussing whether or not violent video games should be banned in this critical thinking assignment, and this is a study that supports my view that violent video games should be banned. How this influenced my thinking: It reinforced what I believe: violent media should be restricted. Violent video games should be banned. Parents need to take responsibility for what they are letting their kids interact with. Did excessive playing of violent video games cause Adam Lanza to massacre 26 innocent souls? It was definitely a significant factor, coupled with serious mental health problems. This article encouraged me to also see that there may be a middle ground between banning the games and free access. Maybe some educational resources for parents need to be made publicly available and easily accessible, so that they have the tools they need to discourage/disallow violent media in the home.

Author: Keith Olbermann Date Published: November 10, 2008 Why Relevent and Summary: When talking about gay marriage, I think this speech sums up my views on the pro side and my confusion with those opposed. This is a must read!! How This Influenced Me: I felt like someone was in my head when I first heard Keith Olbermann deliver this "Special Comment". He so eloquently spoke directly from my heart. Credibility: Opinion piece from a News Anchor, doesn't need to be credible.

Title: Cognitive Functioning in Early Adulthood Author: Bold, M Date published: 1999 Why relevant and summary: There is not alot about Perry's theory on this website but it gives a nice brief description of different theories, including Perry's. How it changed my thinking: Was interesting seeing them all outlined like that. Credibility of source: seems credible.

Title : Girls are more intelligent than boys, but men are more intelligent than women. Author : Satoshi Kanazawa Date : 10/03/2010 Why Relevant and Summary: It's relevant because in my paper, I discuss the debate of age difference in relationships. This article provides support in the maturation of girls and boys and why some people prefer the age difference and why some people may not. How This Influenced My Thinking It helps my thinking to understand where my husband and I are at in our marriage to where we were when we dated in high school. I was more mature than he was, but now he has matured and to be more intelligent than I am but we are equally mature enough. We are also 3 days apart in age.

Date Published: April 25, 2008 Why Relevant and Summary: Explains how William Perry's theory of cognitive development focuses on "the nature of knowledge, truth and values, and the meaning of life and responsibilities... he lists steps by which students move from a simplistic, categorical view of the world to a realization of the contingent nature of knowledge, relative values, and the formation and affirmation of one's own commitments. How This Influenced My Thinking: It gave me a better understanding of the motivators behind value and decision formation; relative to my own formation of values and my own making of decisions. I feel strongly about this and enjoyed writing my paper with some outside resources for further insight into the pros and cons.
