The article is about how music, in general, is effective for the mind, body and soul. Mostly in everyday situations, but more about the brain. The authors questioned the purpose of the the "Mozart Effect". What is so significant about Mozart's music helping the cognitive process that contemporary music couldn't do? This question and many others help develop a study between classical music and rock music. I the study, a group of rock and classical musicians were used to listen to classical and rock music to determine which music as effective or the cognitive processes. Only 6 woman were included in this study. The demographics for this study was 18-58 years.

This source was an article about the Nutrtion Labeling and Education Act. This act was passed in the 1990s. The article addresses the background and purpose of the act and how it changed food packaging. The study itself is done in three parts evalating field study, lab study, and longitudinal data. This article was very informative as far as the field study. They observed and questioned grocery shoppers. The information was from 2002, so it is slightly dated.

Signal and team explore New Zealand and the low-income inhibiters. This study used focus groups to question 158 shoppers. They concluded that many did not have time to read the labels or did not have the understanding to do so. This study was well organized and had useful conclusions. Also its background was informative, and the study itself added that people of New Zealand lack education to read the nutrition labels, it is not just in the US.

The author reports on the study "To Read or Not to Read," which was released by the United States National Endowment for the Arts. The study found that Americans read less in 2007 compared with previous years. The study found that reading abilities for teenagers and adults have declined, whereas reading abilities for younger children have increased. The impact which the decline in reading abilities has had on American workers is discussed. The author states that the amount of time which people read on a daily basis has declined. In this article Soto describes thirteen bilingual children and their own awareness of bilingualism in their lives by sharing conversation with the others. The study is based on 6 girls and 7 boys from Pennsylvania that speak English and Spanish. Soto goes on to speak about how their town's award winning bilingual system was taken away, and the children were very upset when they went to school and could not understand what was going on. The author makes great points and has many sources that lead to many facts in the article. It is a good study within the article that could teach one about the studies that happen within bilingualism.

Li explains through this article the importance of parents helping their children when they are part of a language minority. Studies have shown that if children are trying to learn a second language, it is much easier to do so when their parents are using that language as well. This study was done by the author, Xiaoxia Li, on her daughter, Amy who had come to Li from Mainland China when she was twelve knowing little Enlglish. The article describes the study and the details of how Amy started learning English. Li does a very good job in this article by making everything very understandable and it makes a very good resource for parents that are trying to use two languages in the household.

This article studies the negative consequences of alcohol consumption among college students. These negative effects include personal consequences and consequences with others. The study bases its conclusions on data collected from two sources: Core Alcohol and Drug Survey (CADS), and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Then, they use their results to evaluate the CADS and identify how it must bd improved. This study does not constitute an important source of information. However, it points out the negative consequences of alcohol consumption on drinkers and others

This article was a study that examined nutritional education, label reading behavior, and compared these answers with age, sex, education level. The study was aimed to test label reading in correlation to previous nutritional education and knowledge level. This source had good statistics in the introduction. The paper may have been alittle off my topic but did have useful conslusions on to who reads the nutrtional labels. The test was mostly women, undergraduates, and nonsmokers, so may have been bias in people being studied.

This article studies the effect of different factors on the academic performance of freshmen college students. It presents different studies performed on these students. The studies' results reflect the extent to which each factor affects students' GPAs. However, It shows that drinking is not a significant predictor of achievement. This research clearly provides shocking results, probably because it is limited to a small population of freshmen students enrolled at a private university.

Rauscher and Hinton is arguing the distinct difference music in general as a source of music instruction. I say that because in the 1993 study, the results only lasted 15 mins. The Mozart Effect was under fire as being a "limited" source for a study method. The whole controversy behind that was the during the original study, just one of his songs were being used. Which brings up the question, " Just because one of his songs were used and happen to work, doesn't mean that all of his songs will work the same way.

This is an article/study that explain the history/study that explains the history of the Mozart Effect and the experiment being conducted by Cristy Ho, Oliver Mason and Charles Spence. The main purpose for the Mozart Effect was to improve people's intelligence, however that wasn't the intention that was used for this particular study. Their purpose was to determine whether the Mozart Effect was for the "visual attentional blink", also known as AB, which provide dynamics of visual attention.

This article is about college students health choices. The study adresses college students choices in food purchasing based on label reading. The case studies purchasing choices after the experiment , this can be useful to my study. Also the introduction can help support my research.

In the article by Annie M. Moses, she talks about how television plays a vital role in so many young children's lives. Her studies showed that there were messages in children's programs. Even though it is a longer piece, it shows a very excellent case study to prove her point.

A study to be released today by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum [cites] improvements in a range of literacy skills among students who took part in a program in which the Guggenheim sends artists into schools. The study, now in its second year, interviewed hundreds of New York City third graders, some of whom had participated in the Guggenheim program, called Learning Through Art, and others who did not.

Lucas describes in this detailed article that in early childhood there is noun bias. The article speaks of a study that entails 60 Filipino-English bilingual children. The children were different in how they stressed their nouns and verbs in simple sentences or phrases. Remarkably, the results show that only noun bias is shown in bilingual children's English vocabulary. The author goes very in depth with her study, and does not seem to leave anything out that is need.

This study examined the roles of sensation seeking and self-efficacy in explaining extreme and high physical risk taking behavior. Study participants were 20 extreme risk takers chosen from participants in skiing, rock climbing, kayaking, and stunt flying. One control group was comprised of 20 high, but not extreme, risk takers from each of these activities, matched to the participants in skill and experience. A second control group consisted of 20 trained athletes involved in moderate risk sports. Percepts of self-efficacy emerged as the principle variable differentiating the groups. A social cognitive explanation for desire for mastery was used to understand what enables risk takers to overcome the potentially inhibiting influences of anxiety, fear, and the recognition of danger. This conclusion is further reinforced by converging results from interviews with the participants.

This article describes the change in negative drinking consequences in college when students are exposed to different interventions. It discusses a study performed on different college students over a 6-year period. Then it presents the results obtained. The latter show that the negative consequences decrease with time due to the social norms applied. However, this research contradicts most of the studies in this field.

This article deals with substance use among high school students. This sample is used to foreshadow the future college environment. The study shows that alcohol is the most substance consumed by adolescents. Moreover, it explains that white people tend to be heavier drinker compared to others. It also describes the negative effects drinkers believe alcohol has on their school work, family and peer relationships. Although this study deals with high school students, but the latter will soon constitute the new college generation. Therefore, this article helps us understand the drinking background of college students.
