This article was a study that examined nutritional education, label reading behavior, and compared these answers with age, sex, education level. The study was aimed to test label reading in correlation to previous nutritional education and knowledge level. This source had good statistics in the introduction. The paper may have been alittle off my topic but did have useful conslusions on to who reads the nutrtional labels. The test was mostly women, undergraduates, and nonsmokers, so may have been bias in people being studied.

Todd and Variyum research the use of nutritional labels. This study finds that numbers have gone done from 1995 to 2006, in how many people read the nutritional facts labels on foods. They concluded that the majority of this decrease was from people 30 and younger. This source was very valid becuase it comes from the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) and has reputable sources.

This source is very crucial to my research because it explains the traffic light labeling and that is a large part of my paper. Signal and team explore New Zealand and the low-income inhibiters. This study used focus groups to question 158 shoppers. They concluded that many did not have time to read the labels or did not have the understanding to do so. This study was well organized and had useful conclusions. Also its background was informative, and the study itself added that people of New Zealand lack education to read the nutrition labels, it is not just in the US.

This source contains vital statistics that will be pertanent to my research. The background info is repetative to the nature of the NLEA. It discuesses the new food labeling system and how and why to use it. Also it is current and focuses on the "looking" at labels, which relates to literacy

Kozup and Hogarth discuss the necessity of consumer warning labels on financial matters such as credit cards, mortgage, and mutual funds. They successfully make the analogy of indebtedness to obesity, and our financial state, like our health, can be helped by reading the labels on what they are consuming. The authors describe financial literacy partially as an ability to weigh the pros and cons of financial options available to them, as well as familiarity with the macroeconomic conditions of their environment. The authors also talk about third party financial intermediaries, and the role of policy in consumer saving. The authors offer a great variety of solutions to the problem of financial literacy, and the analogies make it very easy for the reader to understand and learn about the responsibility of financial literacy. Also, the rhetorical questioning involves the reader and implores them to form their own opinion.

This article was a study done to test weather random participants would shop healthier after given education on reading labels. The results showed increases in three of the nine food groups but untimately the increases were not significant enough to conclude anything. This study was short but had references so it is reputable.

This source was an article about the Nutrtion Labeling and Education Act. This act was passed in the 1990s. The article addresses the background and purpose of the act and how it changed food packaging. The study itself is done in three parts evalating field study, lab study, and longitudinal data. This article was very informative as far as the field study. They observed and questioned grocery shoppers. The information was from 2002, so it is slightly dated.

This article is about college students health choices. The study adresses college students choices in food purchasing based on label reading. The case studies purchasing choices after the experiment , this can be useful to my study. Also the introduction can help support my research.

This experiment was a survey given to random shoppers. The article concluded, as many, that there was no conslusive evidence of anything basically.
