National Geographic Kids Blogs - 0 views

  •
In The National Geographic Kids Blog, a group of kids selected by the National Geographic staff share their thoughts and experiences. This is a great blog for kids to follow and be able to read about things that interest them and what other kids think. Teachers can use this as a resource to introduce kids to safe and educational places on the internet that are interesting to them as well. I found this in the "Online Safety" section of Kids.gov, accessed via the publisher companion site of our textbook.

10 Ways to Use Twitter in Your Class - 1 views

  •
This lesson plan from Interface Magazine suggests ways to incorporate Twitter in your class. They seem so easy and practical but I never would have thought of some of these methods, and I was even an early Twitter adopter. Make sure to watch the video under "The Twitter Experiment"! I found this in the "Featured Resources" section of The Gateway to Educational Materials, accessed via the publisher's companion site to our textbook.

Using Technology in Physical Education - 0 views

  •
Blog that keeps you up to date with how to incorporate technology in to Physical Education...very nice ideas and I'm sure most of us have never put much thought to including technology in PE. My father has been a PE Coach for 32 years and I thought this would be cool to share with him and others.

App breaks down student participation barriers. Connect using available technology. Students share thoughts, questions, etc anonymously!

Great idea! I just read an article about polling and thought of this type of application. Students might interact more if they were not so afraid of public failure. This could gie them the anonymity they are seeking!

Digital Writing 101 | Responding to the changing nature of literacy - 0 views

  •
This site offers a wealth of information and many great resources for teachers interested in using digital media for storytelling and other activities.  There are a number of very good, clear, screencast tutorials for teachers to use. Preview a few to see if you might be able to use them with your classes. I thought they were great for high school students, and they inspired me to think about creating my own screencasts for other tutorials! :-)

Polyphonic Teaching with Digital Learning Tools | Edutopia - 0 views

I thought this article provided an interesting perspective about evaluating the use of certain digital tools based  on the type of instructional approach a teacher planned to use. The use of polyphonic teaching lends itself to the use of digital tools.

EDUCON: Shift Happens. « My Island View - 0 views

  • I saw a focus on teaching learning as a skill and not a consequence of content delivery.
  • The ideas of thoughtful, and deep questioning of a subject, before tackling it, as a problem to solve was a striking revelation
  • The idea of teaching the use of the process to acquire the content knowledge as opposed to just providing the content made so much more sense to me. All of this emphasized the “How” to learn as opposed to “What’ to learn.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • I saw this as a much more meaningful goal for educators.
  • Teaching Learning as a skill certainly increases the chance for successful learning

Budget for State of Florida - 0 views

  •
I thought this was interesting since last week a lot of our complaints were the budget. I am still searching through the 320 page document, but it seems that our request for technology went down this year from last! Like Dr. K said though, "don't complain about what you can't change!"

I thought this article was great at giving an example as to how a teacher, with a little organization, can transform a traditional teaching scenario into one that directly integrates the Internet into the lesson, based on the National Education Technology Standards for Students.

I thought this was interesting. By using the FLDOE website, you can search for your district and see what their District Plan is for the year. I know we have been introduced to it in my school, but this goes into depth. It's great to know what you are working towards.
