Bitly is a way to save and share links that also shortens the URL links that you share. Their blog is frequently updated with information on the multiple ways that bitly can be used to you advantage - this particular post goes over some basics of "bitmarks."

The Learning Times Green Room shares podcasts for "Renewal, Retooling, and Conversations about Learning." In this short episode, the hosts are accompanied by Curt Bonks, author of "The World is Open," for a reflection on technology and education.

This article is by Dr. Hoffman, Associate Professor and Coordinator of the ALIMA program at UCF. It provides guidelines for creating digital learning materials for those with accessibility issues, such as learning disabilities, or vision and motor impairments. The fact that I had no idea that's what the article was about (I was thinking about general accessibility for everyone) is an indication that this is a topic that deserves more attention, awareness, and application in practice. The article will be freely available as a PDF from this webpage when on campus or logged into the UCF proxy server.

My interests in instructional design as well as online/distance learning led me to read this article by Dr. Thompson. 

On their Instructional Technology Resources page, Seminole County Public Schools provide instructions and troubleshooting guides for Audacity/podcasting, United Streaming, and Digital Storytelling. It's interesting to know that a significant amount of teachers in Seminole County are using these resources. 

The "7 Things You Should Know About..." series provide quick reads with concise information about emerging technologies and practices. The Campus-Wide IT section addresses professional challenges in higher education, while the Learning Technology section discusses individual technologies or practices. I could bookmark at least a dozen of these relevant articles (microlectures, social content curation, educational design research, e-readers, cloud computing, and so on), which is why I'm saving the main page instead.

From the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative's "7 Things You Should Know About..." series, which provides concise information on emerging technologies and practices. "...badges offer an opportunity to reevaluate credentials, expanding their role by making otherwise hidden accomplishments visible."

This website is AMAZING. It has clip-art, photographs, presentation images, maps, lessons, and answers to tech questions. There are so many images available, they are free (up to a certain amount, but it is very generous), it tells you exactly how to cite them, and it has options for file size and format. Professional development is important - we should try to continually learn and grow as teachers - so good thing the FL Dept of Education website has a page listing some upcoming conferences and workshops (http://www.fldoe.org/JustForTeachers/conferences.asp). This, however, is a FREE webinar called "Preparing Teachers to Implement the Common Core State Standards." It is next Tuesday, Jan 29 2013, from 1:00-2:00 PM. I'm not sure if it will be archived for later viewing. 

This lesson plan from Interface Magazine suggests ways to incorporate Twitter in your class. They seem so easy and practical but I never would have thought of some of these methods, and I was even an early Twitter adopter. Make sure to watch the video under "The Twitter Experiment"! I found this in the "Featured Resources" section of The Gateway to Educational Materials, accessed via the publisher's companion site to our textbook.

In The National Geographic Kids Blog, a group of kids selected by the National Geographic staff share their thoughts and experiences. This is a great blog for kids to follow and be able to read about things that interest them and what other kids think. Teachers can use this as a resource to introduce kids to safe and educational places on the internet that are interesting to them as well. I found this in the "Online Safety" section of Kids.gov, accessed via the publisher companion site of our textbook.

This article highlights several free online resources that can be used to enhance project-based learning for students. Resources such as Google Docs and Dropbox may be widely known already in this class, but others include LiveMinutes, ShowMe, and GimmeBar.
