A timely defense of teacher-centred instruction. Surely the quality of instruction is more important than a fixation on its method? After having tried student-centred and me-centred teaching styles I have found overwhelmingly that the latter is more effective. I'm pretty entertaining though...

The Encyclopedia of Educational Technology (EET) is a collection of short multimedia articles on a variety of topics related to the fields of instructional design and education and training. The primary audiences for the EET are students and novice to intermediate practitioners in these fields, who need a brief overview as a starting point to further research on specific topics. Authors are graduate students, professors, and others who contribute voluntarily. Articles are short and use multimedia to enrich learning rather than merely decorate the pages.

Collection of those "old time" 1940s era safety, hygiene, and "do and don't" videos that are so often parodied. Archive of the PSA like films that encourage young students how to act, behave, and treat one another. Great resources for a video course, or classrooms looking to produce their own PSAs in the the old "Jimmy shouldn't do this..." style videos.

3 key items to keep in mind when considering a "Flipped" classroom method of instruction.

Recent study found that if you explain "all aspects" of a toy, children are less likely to discover new uses. If you allow them to "play and experiment" they will discover new a creative uses. This should be taken into account in teaching.

As William Chamberlain and I dm's on Twitter, I asked if he was "flipped" and he penned this answer on his blog. It is insightful in that many teachers incorporate elements of delivering instruction via blog or feed without having kids with net access at home.

I love William Chamberlain's lesson plan from this past Tuesday. I enjoy how he defines criticism and sets guidelines. He is flipping the classroom by recording instruction. I really love Mr. C! @wmchamberlain on Twitter.

A great site for learning Mandarin with fun games. Some of the instructions are in Chinese.

Instructographics are graphics that include instructions and they are very popular on pinterest. As teachers, we should be familiar with instructographics. Here's a board of great ones.

A site that collects pop-culture video clips of single words which you type. Use it for an interesting twist to giving instructions or a learning objective.

An iPad app which allows a teacher to set work remotely on the students' devices, including with recorded audio instructions. The teacher can see what the students are doing and get feedback instantly on the their iPad. The students can put up a virtual hand to ask for help from the teacher, or from fellow students.

As far as my work as a teacher and teacher trainer is concerned, I believe in challenging students and having high expectations of everyone in the classroom. This is coupled with appropriate support and guidance, which is then differentiated to meet pupils' and students' needs. To support my learners I provide relevant and specific praise and feedback, engaging and interesting tasks and activities, sound guidelines and instructions, solid question and answer sessions and clear, practical examples or modelling.
