Taking Yourself Seriously: Processes of Research and Engagement - 9 views

  •
Taking Yourself Seriously: Processes of Research and Engagement is the working title of a book by Peter Taylor and Jeremy Szteiter that assembles the tools and processes from research and writing courses taught in the Graduate Program in Critical and Creative Thinking. The most up to date version of the book can be viewed at http://cct.wikispaces.umb.edu/TYS (and associated links, including a link to a full pdf of the book). "For your research and writing to progress well, your questions and ideas need to be in alignment with your aspirations, your ability to take or influence action, and your relationships with other people. Shorten these items to head, heart, hands, and human connections. Your efforts to bring these 4H's into alignment is what we mean when we invite you to take yourself seriously." Some comments from former students looking back on the influence of the research courses out of which this book has arisen: Jane, a healthcare professional and story-teller: I learned is to 'hold my ideas loosely', which means accepting my own idea as a valid one but always leaving the space open to take in the counterarguments. I learned to give myself permission to be circular and come back to previous steps or thoughts, and I actually became more comfortable doing so. I was able to get engaged in a project that I was able to actually use in work, which was extremely satisfying. The whole process encouraged me, and I felt very empowered as a change agent, which could be an exhilarating feeling.

great help - mainstream topics like "volcano" are pretty safe.  But the embed code doesn't work for Wikispaces.

Sweeny's Canadawiki Weblog: Make Your Own Wiki Textbook With Web 2.0 - 6 views

  • Web 2.0 services are generating what is truly a personal learning renaissance. Here's a comment from teacher Elizabeth Davis at Classroom 2.0:"Following and reading blogs, participating in ning, contributing to wikis, writing in my blog, I haven't thought this much in years. It truly is an amazing phenomenon. I feel so intellectually alive. I'm inspired and challenged constantly. The blogs I read lead me to question and explore new tools and Websites. I haven't written this much since I was in school. It is all so exciting and energizing. For me, classroom 2.0 could just be about my own growth and learning and that would be enough."A good example of a free Web 2.0 service is Wikispaces. Here's a class wiki made with the service - A Broken World, the World War I wiki of a Grade 9 class. Their teacher comments:You are now "textbook writers." Your goal is to make a better, more interesting textbook than that overweight, boring, 20th Century history textbook you're now using. And to do work of such high quality that you can include it on your resume as another example of your academic skills in your "digital portfolio."Here are some other School 2.0 online services:* Diigo- for "social bookmarking" of Web sources.* Blogger - to create a class weblog.* Ning - to build your own social network]

I have been part of a very exciting Graduate Program at CW Post. Through this program we have created a site that we would like to share with you. In this site you will find very exciting and new ways to take your students or yourself on a virtual field trip. Many times we would like to travel to interesting places but do not have the means. Through this site you are able to travel to places and experience them digitally. You also are able to share your travels on this site. Imagine going to Egypt and wanting to share it with students who might possibly never have an opportunity to go themselves. Please feel free to email us at Digitalexperiences@gmail.com with questions. A fast and free field trip is at your finger tips! All you need to do is visit : digitalexperiences.wikispaces.com Enjoy!!! We look forward to hearing about your experiences and joining in our quest to re-invent a digital field trip!!!

Wikispaces - For Educators - 35 views

Wikispaces allows you to create wikis specifically for educational purposes. A wiki allows your students to collaborate with you or each other on any number of projects. They simply edit and save without having to create anything new. Instead of brainstorming on paper have them brainstorming in a Wiki.
