A high school English teacher has a single accountability measure for her students' choice reading: talking to them about it.

A gateway to a series of literature response activities that support and reflect values in education and could be adapted to support the Australian Curriculum General Capabilities and Cross Curriculum Priorities. Examples are over a decade old but the for layout and critical thinking strategies embedded are still relevant.

Since digital reading is still in its infancy, for many adults it's hard to know exactly what the issues are-what's happening to a young brain when reading online? Should kids be reading more paper books, and why? Do other digital activities, like video games and social media apps, affect kids' ability to reach deep understanding when reading longer content, like books? And how do today's kids learn to toggle between paper and the screen?

Most kids love to listen to audio books, but did you know that this practice is also extremely effective for improving reading comprehension and fluency? I discovered this well-kept secret a few years ago when I started using audio books with my struggling readers. I was using Classroom Book Clubs in my classroom on a regular basis, but I was experiencing a problem when it came to book selection.

Exposing all students to complicated storytelling, no matter their reading level, is just one benefit of using audiobooks in the classroom. But the research shows there are many other advantages too, including an increase in reading comprehension, motivation and self-confidence.

After listing as many Australian Indigenous representations in the superhero worlds, I noticed that many of the early characters' powers are connected to the conceptual 'Dreamtime'. Although this is presented in different ways, it's often done using separate dimensions within the extended comic multiverses. Very little have any mention of actual Aboriginal nations, and do not seem to have had much research or thought towards any level of authenticity. However, the more recent characters appear to have had much more understanding put into these characters; their origins, and their characteristics. But sadly, very few entries here are designed by Aboriginal artists or written by Aboriginal authors themselves, but given the positive development from the 1980s to today, hopefully this is something we will see more of in future.

The Australian Kids & Family Reading Report™ is a national survey of children aged 6-17 and their parents, as well as parents of children aged 0-5, exploring their reading attitudes and behaviours around reading books for fun. This is the first edition in Australia with past surveys conducted in the US bi-annually since 2006. 695 pairs of children and adults from the same household completed the survey, along with 358 parents of children aged 0-5. The survey was fielded between November 19, 2015 and November 27, 2015.

Read Like a Girl is a community partnership for the literacy advancement of girls and is a combined endeavour led by Mt Alvernia College and St Rita's College, in partnership with Riverbend Books. This project encapsulates a calendar of reading events aimed at instilling a foundation and love of reading in the college communities and more broadly among girls everywhere.

Project Gutenberg offers over 57,000 free eBooks. Choose among free epub books, free kindle books, download them or read them online. You will find the world's great literature here, with focus on older works for which copyright has expired. Thousands of volunteers digitized and diligently proofread the eBooks, for enjoyment and education.

It goes by many names: transmedia storytelling, transmedia narrative, cross-media seriality, and multiplatform storytelling. But what exactly is 'it'? And why does it matter? At ECHO, we most often use the term multiplatform storytelling to describe the general technique of telling a story using several formats and/or platforms, ideally with some involvement by audience or end users.

Productive classroom discussions-those that enable students to invent, create, imagine, take risks, and dig for deeper meanings-can only take place in a climate in which students feel safe to offer their ideas. Teachers can create such a climate by being mindful of the essential conditions of interactive teaching.
