  • Although the Colab was created specifically to teach social media theory by the use of social media, and the Social Media Classroom includes resource lists, syllabi, and , lesson plans focused on that specific subject, it was intended from the beginning to serve as an all-purpose tool for educators who seek to use social media in pursuit of a more participative pedagogy. That’s where the community of practice comes in. We’re devoting an instance of the Colab to converations among educational practitioners that we hope to grow into a self-sustaining community around the use of social software in pedagogy in the broadest sense—any subject, any age level, any institution. We welcome participants who want to learn more, share best practices, meet others who share an interest in social media in education. The hope of those who created the initial Colab and accompanying curricular and support material is that this effort, and the tools we provide, will inspire others to vastly expand and deepen our resource repository, add their syllabi and lesson plans, discuss with and learn from others. The programmes that I wrote and shared with a team of teachers were generally well accepted and the feedback offered was always politely positive. I enjoyed writing these programmes but in recent times I have enjoyed even more stepping away from this process and in doing so empowering the team of teachers that I learn with.     What is snaggy? Snaggy is an image host that lets you paste images from your clipboard directly online.  Any kind of image, from raw data to URL paths, can be pasted in one step. Snaggy also has a simple built-in editor you can use before you share your image.  Why was it made? Sharing screenshots has always been a big hassle: you have to press print-screen, then paste it into an image editor, then save the image to your local hard drive, then browse for it and upload it.  This was always an annoyance for me, so I made snaggy to simplify the process into a single step.  Since then it has saved me a lot of time, so I've made it public so that everyone can benefit from it.

  • When Finnish policymakers decided to reform the country's education system in the 1970s, they did so because they realized that to be competitive, Finland couldn't rely on manufacturing or its scant natural resources and instead had to invest in a knowledge-based economy. 
  • It is possible to create equality. And perhaps even more important -- as a challenge to the American way of thinking about education reform -- Finland's experience shows that it is possible to achieve excellence by focusing not on competition, but on cooperation, and not on choice, but on equity.

Robin Emmons did so with the help of volunteers and donors who made Sow Much Good grow from a backyard initiative into a community project. Tired of the rat race, Robin quit her job to do some self-searching. After a couple of weeks, she was told of her brother being held in jail for an undiagnosed schizophrenic outburst. Concerned about her brother's deteriorating health in the mental facility, she volunteered to bring fresh produce from her backyard garden… then realizing that her purpose was just around her-literally. More determined than ever, Chief Almir kept his partnership with Google Earth Outreach and has found a way to liberate his people from welcoming loggers through a 50-year development plan.
