Student 2.0 is a network for learners to connect independently with other learners and with mentors from around the world, and to have educational experiences across cultural and geographic boundaries. We encourage you to explore passionate interests, to find people to help you, and to build professional competencies--creating your own virtual "Personal Learning Network" (PLN). You must be 13 to join the Student 2.0, and both content and communications on this network must be appropriate. Please report anything inappropriate or uncomfortable, and please watch our introductory video on personal safety online. Mentors and experts are also encouraged to join and participate, but spamming or inappropriate remarks will result in immediate banning.

The purpose of the project is to: * Collect and report the unfiltered feedback from students, parents and teachers on key educational issues. * Use the data to stimulate local conversations. * Raise national awareness about the importance of including the viewpoints of students, parents, and teachers in the education dialogue. Quantitative survey results are available to participating schools and districts, online, free-of-charge, so that they can use the data for planning and community discussion. National findings are released through a variety of venues, including: a Congressional Briefing in Washington, DC, national and regional conferences, e-mail distribution, Project Tomorrow website, and our Speak Up partners. Local, state and national stakeholders report using Speak Up data to inform their new programs and policies. "

Teachers will explore the use of audio and video tools that support student learning, collaboration, and communication that extend beyond classroom walls. Audio and video content can be accessed online, created by individuals or groups and used for collaborative conversations. The first step of the course is acquiring and organizing existing content available from online. Next, is learning to use podcasting tools to create content. Participants can then expand from podcasting to screencasting and video to make use of the distributed, collaborative potential of these tools. The ability to easily publish content online will encourage teachers to rethink the way they communicate with students, and the way curriculum is delivered. Educators will become knowledgeable about 21st Century Literacy skills as they fit into the classroom.

I'm doing a personal learning network workshop with a group of media and technology teachers from two different counties on April 24th. I want to share with them just how far reaching a Twitter network can be. Students enrolled in iQ Academy Wisconsin do their learning at home, but they are participating in a program of the School District of Waukesha. The curriculum is approved by the school district for earning middle and high school credits that can lead to a high school diploma through iQ Academy and the School District of Waukesha.
