National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that the NEA plans to award $74.85 million in 971 grants to nonprofit organizations nationwide as part of the second half of its fiscal year 2014 funding (including $2.7 million to U.S. theater and musical theater nonprofits). In addition to direct grants through the Art Works category, this round of funding also supports the state arts agencies and regional arts organizations - the NEA's partners in bringing the arts to all parts of the nation - as well as grants for research projects that build evidence on the value and impact of the arts.

The Oregon Arts Commission plays an important role in fostering Oregon's famously high quality of life. In collaboration with its partners, the Arts Commission provides leadership, advocacy, resources, and capacity building programs; it organizes valuable convenings; and awards millions of dollars in grants every year to Oregon artists and arts organizations.

"Creative Capital has awarded $29 million to 530 groundbreaking artists nationwide through funding, counsel and career development services. Our Professional Development workshops have empowered an additional 6,500 creative minds to strengthen their careers and enrich their communities."

Through vision, leadership, and service, the Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) works to integrate arts and culture in all aspects of community life. RACC serves the Portland, Oregon Metropolitan Region, including Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties.RACC provides grants for artists, nonprofit organizations and schools; manages an internationally acclaimed public art program; raises money and awareness for the arts through workplace giving; convenes forums, networking events and other community gatherings; provides workshops and other forms of technical assistance for artists; and oversees a program to integrate arts and culture into the standard curriculum in public schools throughout the region through "The Right Brain Initiative.

I just came to Seattle to watch baseball tomorrow but sadly I think I miss the festival this time.. I should have come last weekend.

The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, in conjunction with Cinema Pacific, presents "Hunting Requires Optimism" and "Medusa Smack," two video installations by Portland-based artist Vanessa Renwick. On view from April 25 to June 29, 2014, and made possible by a JSMA Academic Support Grant, Renwick's installations address serious issues related to our environment in often humorous ways.
