Scott Karp over at Publishing 2.0 has an interesting discussion going about the unnecessary frustration users experience at the sites of mainstream media publications. 5 Daily Social Media Builders In Less Than 10 Minutes (Total!) | Internet Marketing Str... - 0 views

  • Update Your Facebook Page I freely admit I am terrible about this. I’m never thrilled about dealing with the river of application requests, zombie bites, knighthoods, images of gifts I’d like (instead of the actual gift), weather trivia, quizzes and other utterly worthless junk that await me.

Here's what you need to do these 5 steps: * A Google account * A Yahoo! account * A Stumbleupon account and the toolbar * A Facebook account (c'mon, you don't have one?!) * A Twitter account These steps take a total of 10 minutes a day, because that's all I can stand

PR 2.0: New Communication Theory and the New Roles for the New World of Marketing - 0 views

  • Monday, July 21, 2008 New Communication Theory and the New Roles for the New World of Marketing
  • In the era of the "new" social Web, communications is actually evolving back to its origins of communicating with people, not at them. It may seem implied, but communications does not, for the most part, embody two-way discussions.
  • With the soaring popularity and adoption of Social Media, companies are realizing that in addition to marketing communications, listening and engagement is quickly becoming pervasive and necessary in order to compete for precious, yet thinned and distributed attention. The days of focusing solely on Web stickiness, eyeballs and clickthroughs are fading. These are the days of immersion, conversations, engagement, relationships, referrals, and action.

Adobe, AIR and open source: changes to, and expectations of, WebKit
  •
Will AIR applications be deployable in Google Chrome OS? Or, is this possibility reduced by Adobe's changes to WebKit? When and how will Adobe's changes to WebKit become available at webkit.org? Defocusing from Adobe: is there now less platform-specific code within WebKit? How soon might the goal — no platform-specific code — be realised?

co-ment - web-based text annotation - 8 views

  • upload any document (MSWord, RTF, OpenOffice Document)
    • Graham Perrin

It is only the new version (to be deployed in the coming weeks, most likely in January 2010) that markdown is the pivot format and you will be able to use the "latex to markdown" conversion of pandoc to upload texts. With the present version, the best solution is either: - Through OpenDocument and upload, which is a pain when you start from lyx, as lyx to OpenDocument does not work well. - By generating HTML from lyx, displaying it in a browser, creating a new text in co-ment (http://www.co-ment.net/text/add/) and cutting and pasting from the browser to the edition window in co-ment. This is ugly as a method but works well if you don't have images.
  • or write it directly with your browser
  • work privately on your text with a few chosen collaborators
  • or open the commenting process to the public
  • use comments to improve your document and create new versions of your text
  • export your text (and all comments) in any format (MS Word, OpenOffice Document, etc.)
