It includes how they are adding things such as video, sound, and graphics to the text. Some people fear that this will cause the loss of literacy and the dangers the world's store of knowledge will face if it becomes completely digital. While e-books still don't take up a large portion of books sold, it is predicted to increase as the main group of consumers, middle-aged women, is replaced with newer generations.

Web. 17 Nov. 2010. In this article, Susan Landt focuses on the importance of integrating multicultural literature into studies, especially at the adolescent level. Introducing multicultural literature into the classroom is necessary in providing a wider view that opens students to insights of other cultures. Landt claims that if multicultural literature were an integrated part of education teachers wouldn't be struggling to incorporate diversity and multicultural education in their classes. Several important reasons for this assimilation is to acknowledge the many cultures and their contributions to the world. It also helps to bring children into contact with other cultures and helps them to develop awareness at an early age, which will encourage respect for all peoples.

This article by the American Medical Association talks about how television exposure has harmful effects on children and adolescents, when it comes to underage drinking. The exposure of young children, adolescents, and college students to television that had alcohol in it increases the chances of underage drinking. The damaging effects on the brains of alcohol on this age groups brains can be permanent. Television ads make drinking alcohol seem like the normal thing to do so they think its okay to do. These alcohol companies have mascots, other characters, and even slogans geared toward people who are underage.

It explains how the two are able to handle certain things and how it affects their mental health. It also shows the positive and negative affects on eating between the sexes. It is shown that trying to be healthy can have a bad impact on a person as well.

This article talks about how autistic children develop their literacy through a range of activities and behaviors. It also talks about two pain points in how autistic children develop their literacy techniques. Experts believe that learning literacy early on for autistic children will not determine their total oral language development. They need to look at reading and writing as communication practices from an early age. It is also talks about how speech production can be improved through writing instructions. Social interaction is a large part of developing literacy.

This articles purpose was to study the health literacy of college students. This article proposed a study of college juniors and seniors to determine what their actual health literacy was and what health literacy was expected of them. This study had many factors in their students that they too into consideration, including gender, race, and declared major. The study concluded that over 98% of the college students that they researched had an adequate literacy level.

This article discuses the importance of having a financial background. There is a lot of discussion about having mandatory class at the high school level, which will help students with their finances. It will also help students become more aware of what it involved in creating a budget. There is a lot of discussion on how personal finance should be taught.

I think in order to explain Autism's effects on literacy (or whatever you're doing), you need to first explain generally what Autism is. That way, you have a base on which to form your argument. If the person reading your paper has no prior knowledge of Autism, then they will be completely in the dark while reading it. The site gives a general medical overview of Autism's causes, symptoms, and treatments.

It compares reasearch on these two areas in boys with Down Syndrome and boys with autism spectrum disorder, and then boys with both. They test each of these things at differnt age levels. This article shares the results of the study with different tables and text.

Web. 3 Nov. 2010. This article lists the benefits of storytelling to young children. When teachers or any adult tells children stories it increases their vocabulary and their listening and reading comprehension. Through story telling, children also learn how to construct a story. They learn what the beginnning, middle, and end are. Once theyl learn how to construct a story, they begin to learn how to write their own stories. Storytelling greatly benefits children's literacy.

This article is primarily about finding confidence in writing and reading through music. It goes on to say that children are naturally wired to sounds and rhythms so at a young age it can be used to establish rhyming patterns in areas of reading and writing. Music can be a way to remember stories and learn more about the world. Repetition of songs enhances emergent literacy. The article also says music and print language are similar.

American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, 5/15/2008, Vol. 65 Issue 10, p974-981 this article deals with the problems of communication between the Pharmacy and the consumer. It gets into the responsiblilty of the pharmacists to make sure that what is put on the labels to medication, is understandable to the common man. It talks about the numerous times where the patients misread the directions, or just did not understand the directions by the Pharmacy, and the labels to the medication.

the article discusses the laws that deal with the consumption of alcoholic drinks in the U.S.. It looks at the phenomenon of underage drinking. It starts with an introduction about why we need to help the elderly, and how much of a blessing a computer would be for some elderly people. After this introduction it moves into the steps of how to slowly integrate the senior citizen to their knew computer. It is a five step process that will improve a senior citizens life, and make them fluent with their computer.

It discusses policies made that are positively impacting the cause and what we need to continue to better the situation. statistics from a Harris poll are included asking the public on how they rate the importance of the arts in schools. They make the statement that "art is academic" and prove all the ways art improves various aspects of thinking

Web. 19 Nov 2010. This paper talks about the connectino between low health literacy and poor health. It hypothesizes that people with cognative difficulties and people who do not speak the dominent language of the country are more likely to have health literacy problems.

A study was performed that evaluated the effects of sending text messages and using the Internet right before bedtime on children. The researchers at the Sleep Disorders Center at JFK Medical Center in Edison, N.J found that the use of these technologies right before bed can have negative effects on kids' sleeping patterns. These then impact their daytime functioning and psychological health. This lack of sleep results in poor cognitive functioning and disorders such as ADHD. The amount of texting and online use before bed should be limited and monitored by parents.

It tells of the importance of being able to obtain, processm and understand basic health information. Many of the healthcare providers out there are nurses, and, according to this article, they can help decrease the amount of patients with low health literacy. This article also states that health literacy can have an impact on an idividuals health status and the cost of health care in general. There is a big need for nurses to educate their patients about their health and health literacy in general.
