This website has many studied and information involving the computer use of the elderly and thier opinions of computers in comparisoin with other age classes. It has a study that says that the outlooks of computers from the perspective of the elderly aren't very different at all from the perspective of a young adult. It shines a new light on the age old thought that senior citizens do not like computers, they may just not know how to use them.

Fidler, Deborah J., Karen Caplovitz Barrett, and David E. Most. "Age-Related Differences in Smiling and Personality in Down Syndrome." Journal of Developmental and Physical Disabilities 17.3 (2005), 263 - 280. This article discusses differences of patients of different ages with Down syndrom. Ages in the study ranged from 5-20 years. This was an observational study done to draw inferences about smiling and personality traits. Their results were conclusive. Smile deration decreased with age and anxiousness increased with age.

This site displays basic traits or habits that average children should aquire at certain ages. It only goes up to age five, which is why it is not helpful to me (I'm primarily studying Autistic teenagers). It touches on emotional, social, and physical traits. This is good if you need a list of traits for a "regular" child to compare an Autistic child to.

the article discusses the laws that deal with the consumption of alcoholic drinks in the U.S.. It looks at the phenomenon of underage drinking. It was hypothesized that better nutrition and physical activity would be related to healthy environmental perceptions and personal beliefs.Sixty-five percent of American adults are overweight. The greatest increases in overweight and obesity occur in persons between 18-29 years of age.Eating habits are also a problem in both the general population as well as among college students. Only 28% of persons over the age of two are meeting daily recommendations for fruit intake and even fewer 3% are meeting daily recommendations for vegetable intake. College students often exceed the recommended daily limit for saturated fat intake. A study by Racette found that more than half the students in their sample reported eating high-fat fried or fast foods at least three times per week.

The main forms they are shown this is through movies, television, and advertising. Advertising in particular starts at a young age forming children's opinions of what is normal. This is true for both men and women. They are shown this specifically through stereotypes of each gender to form what they should look like, act like, and with whom they should befriend.

Irving, L. M. and Berel, S. R. "Comparison of Media-Literacy Programs to Strengthen College Women's Resistance to Media Images." Psychology of Women Quarterly. 25 (2001): 103-111. Wiley Online Library. Web. 3 Nov. 2010. This article is talking about the results of a study that was done among college aged women. It was to see the effects of media images on their body image. It was done with 110 undergraduate women to see what they thought about the images the media was projecting toward them and how it effects how they see themselves. It was also done to see what would help stop this from continuing to happen to these young women. Throughout the study it was shown that with the help of this "intervention" the women began to question whether or not the images were really what ideal beauty looks like. This shows that through media literacy something like this can be stopped and women can feel better about their body image.

This article is about how peer tutoring is effective to everyone. Studies have shown that a peer tutoring relationship is more effective than just in a classroom. It has also been effective in the adult literacy area. Cross-age tutoring is proven to be less effective than true-age tutoring. The author argues how students should consider tutoring while in school and how it is a helpful tactic to their studies.

This article by the American Medical Association talks about how television exposure has harmful effects on children and adolescents, when it comes to underage drinking. The exposure of young children, adolescents, and college students to television that had alcohol in it increases the chances of underage drinking. The damaging effects on the brains of alcohol on this age groups brains can be permanent. Television ads make drinking alcohol seem like the normal thing to do so they think its okay to do. These alcohol companies have mascots, other characters, and even slogans geared toward people who are underage.

This article discusses how hospitals are trying to put programs together to help those children that are long term patience with the learning process. Many children are posing disabilities that need to be confronted before they are put back into a regular classroom. The article goes on to talk about that teachers need to empower parents and hospital staffs to come up with innovative ways to teacher children the curriculum that they should be learning. Children with learning disabilities are popping up more frequently and we need to take action as a society to address those issues at an early age.

This article says that tutoring is an effective learning method for college students. This proves that students who are tutored get better grades in all subjects, especially english. Reading is a part of every subject and by exercising it the most, students become more literate.

Kasari, Connie, et al. "Parental Perspectives on Inclusion: Effects of Autism and Down Syndrome." Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders 29.4 (1999), 297-305. Using the child's diagnosis, age, and current educational placement, a study was done to observe the effects of these factors on parent's perceptions of inclusion for their child with disabilities. Parents in the study filled out surveys asking questions on how they felt about their childs current educational situation and views on inclusive programs. The studies showed clear results. Parents of patients with Down syndrome showed a significant difference in support of inclusive programs over parents of children with autism. Age also played a role.

Having autistic children in normal classrooms has also pushed teachers into further analyzing their students, and pay more attention to assignments.

Twelve out of forty-five respondants that experienced abuse before the age of 22 said that their life was affected in a positive way. People exposed to abuse showed more adversity in adulthood rather than those who were not exposed. More studies are needed to underst8and the true complexity of the situation.
