It discusses how you foster the development of foundational research skills in first-year undergraduate music students. This was the dilemma facing Vanderbilt University music librarians and faculty. Our solution to this problem was to implement a four-semester integrated music information- literacy program that emphasized library instruction for first-year stu- dents.

Web. 19 November 2010 Music education discourse is marked by frequent comparisons of music to language, and of music notation to written language. However, the role played by writing, as opposed to reading, is often overlooked in that discourse, as well as in classroom practices and workbooks. Consequently, far too many students can read music notation but not write it. Failing to achieve full literacy in their field, they develop a habit of deference toward printed music. Plato argues in the Phaedrus that we should not take that which is written too seriously. Letting students write music will help them to achieve the perspective of Plato-himself a writer.

This article tests the idea that parents influence their young on topics such as finances. There are survey results that show parental influence had an impact on the students and their financial outlook. There is also an enormous influence on financial behavior and attitude.

It goes into detail about the risks involved for teachers, as well as students who are currently using MySpace or Facebook. Although it clearly states the dangers of these sites, this articles delves into the positive ways college students and teachers are using them such as organizing charity functions, organizing new clubs, or even forming political protests. This article reflects on both the good and bad sides of social networking and students.

It also talks about how university students are using Facebook to get feedback on educational assignments and thus are improving their web-based learning performance. It also explores the concept that social networking sites such as Facebook are helping college students become socially accepted in the university setting.

The kids regularly use or view YouTube (short clips relevant to what is being taught each day), digital storytelling (using technology to write and create stories), as well as blogs (they regularly write book reviews, homework, or view podcasts all on a moderated blogging website).

A study was performed that evaluated the effects of sending text messages and using the Internet right before bedtime on children. The researchers at the Sleep Disorders Center at JFK Medical Center in Edison, N.J found that the use of these technologies right before bed can have negative effects on kids' sleeping patterns. These then impact their daytime functioning and psychological health. This lack of sleep results in poor cognitive functioning and disorders such as ADHD. The amount of texting and online use before bed should be limited and monitored by parents.

It really takes an in depth look at the effectiveness of using the blogs to help bridge the gap between teaching and students.

It talks about how classroom blogging is a way to expand the communication beyond the classroom wall and really connect with the students.

It was hypothesized that better nutrition and physical activity would be related to healthy environmental perceptions and personal beliefs.Sixty-five percent of American adults are overweight. The greatest increases in overweight and obesity occur in persons between 18-29 years of age.Eating habits are also a problem in both the general population as well as among college students. Only 28% of persons over the age of two are meeting daily recommendations for fruit intake and even fewer 3% are meeting daily recommendations for vegetable intake. College students often exceed the recommended daily limit for saturated fat intake. A study by Racette found that more than half the students in their sample reported eating high-fat fried or fast foods at least three times per week.

It talks about how although they are not having peer contact in the traditional classroom, they can still get different opinions and socially apply themselves in an otherwise isolated environment.
