Elon Musk Urges People to Watch Chris Paine's A.I. Movie While It's Free | Inverse - 1 views

  •
    "Elon Musk is concerned about the future of humanity. The tech entrepreneur shared a link with his 21 million Twitter followers Friday morning, urging them to watch Chris Paine's latest movie Do You Trust This Computer?. Musk wrote that "nothing will affect the future of humanity more than digital super-intelligence," while paying homage to the late Stephen Hawking that shared the same concerns.

    Paine's movie, available for free streaming until Sunday night, looks at how machine intelligence has become a pervasive part of everyday lives. It also explores how users trust smartphones and social networking with their data, an issue that's seen newfound attention in recent weeks as it emerged that Cambridge Analytica may have harvested 87 million Facebook users' data. Paine shared a trailer for the movie on its Facebook page - unlike Musk, it seems Paine has yet to fully sign up to the #DeleteFacebook movement spurred by the Cambridge Analytica scandal:"

    "I've been writing about apps for a long time, but they are not of equal importance.

    Microsoft's free Seeing AI app may be a game changer for people with visual impairments.  The research project is designed to turn "turn the visual world into an audio experience," narrating the world for those who cannot see it, in real time using artificial intelligence."

Artificial Intelligence: Implications for the Future of Education - 2 views

    "Have you noticed more discussion recently about Artificial Intelligence or AI? When first hearing "Artificial Intelligence" is there an image that pops into your mind? Is it something that you can easily define? Perhaps your understanding/reference point is something you've seen in the movies. For myself, being an 80s child, my initial frame of reference is Star Wars, I immediately think of R2D2 or C3PO. My mind then wanders to thoughts of "I, Robot" starring Will Smith, in which the robots developed the capacity to think like humans, to feel and to take action on their own. And more currently, I think of the Alexa, Echo, Siri and others that have gained popularity, even more so recently. But what is the true meaning of AI and how do we see it in daily life?"

The new industrial revolution: robots are an opportunity, not a threat - 1 views

  •
    "Invasion. Takeover. These are the kind of words that have been bandied about in news headlines about robotics and artificial intelligence in the last few years. The coverage has been almost relentlessly negative, focusing on the threat to jobs, squeezing out the human component. While such potential is there, if robotics and AI do become a threat, then we believe this would be a threat of society's own choosing."

Tell Kids to Get Good at Stuff Smart Machines Can't Do (Yet) - 1 views

  •
    ""AI won't obliterate jobs, but it will transform jobs," said Daniel Pink, author of Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us.

    Pink said he's told his own kids to "think about what you can do to augment what AI does-work that only humans can do that smart machines cannot." That includes:

    creativity;
    dealing with ambiguity, nuance and poorly defined problems;
    understanding other's emotions and point of view;
    Developing expertise and sense making; and
    Identifying reliable sources.
