Search for Missing Metallica Fan Morgan Harrington Nets No Clues - Noisecreep - 0 views

  • Last week, Metallica's Kirk Hammett spoke about Harrington's case. "We are staying positive that she will be found soon," he said. "We are all hoping for the best and praying for her and her family. We all have children and as parents ourselves, it's our worst nightmare for a child to go out and not come back home. We empathize with that greatly, so we are doing what we can to help find her. We are staying positive."

I'm learning more about Metallica's murder case right now, and in particular what I'm wondering is what Metallica's feelings about this is. I was researching the status of this online, and this article caught my attention because it was the first link on Google News. The caption mentioned band member Kirk Hammett's opinion on the matter, so I clicked on it since I was curious to his particular thoughts, knowing Kirk Hammett to be a more softer soul in the heavy metal band. "Last week, Metallica's Kirk Hammett spoke about Harrington's case. "We are staying positive that she will be found soon," he said. "We are all hoping for the best and praying for her and her family. We all have children and as parents ourselves, it's our worst nightmare for a child to go out and not come back home. We empathize with that greatly, so we are doing what we can to help find her. We are staying positive." The quote I chose here is basically saying that Kirk Hammett fully understands the sadness that comes with a missing child, and that it's something everyone fears. However, Metallica is staying positive and optimistic that something positive will turn up.

How much of your personality is defined through your zodiac sign? Many people believe in astrology and follow their everyday lives according to their horoscopes. I personally believe that astrology is mostly accurate when it comes to people's personalities and the problems they will face in the future or their successes. The way your zodiac sign is described may not be exactly your own personality because there are other personalities around you that shape the kind of person you are as well. Zodiac signs are assigned according to your birthday and determines what kind of person you are. Two people are exactly the same so obvious there will be differences among people with the same birthdays mostly, because of their environments. But, the basis of their personalities can be told from their zodiac signs.
  •
I dont really use astrology, but every once and a while i might see what they have under my zodiac sign. I deffinately agree that people personalities are determined by their enviroment....

Childhood obesity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • Obese children often suffer from teasing by their peers.[10][11] Some are harassed or discriminated against by their own family.
    • Ammy EWSIS

This is very important because children often becoming suicidal or low self esteemed due to teases made by their peers or own family.
  • Physical inactivity of children has also shown to be a serious cause, and children who fail to engage in regular physical activity are at greater risk of obesity.
    • Ammy EWSIS

It is very important for an overweight child to engage in physical activity as it can help improve their health and lose weight. The key to fighting obesity is to exercise daily and maintain a healthy eating habit.
  • A 2008 study has found that children who are obese have carotid arteries which have prematurely aged by as much as thirty years as well as abnormal levels of cholesterol[13].
    • Ammy EWSIS

Why is this so? How does carotid arteries and obesity both contribute to premature aging?
  • ...5 more annotations...
  • Children's food choices are also influenced by family meals. Researchers provided a household eating questionnaire to 18,177 children, ranging in ages 11–21, and discovered that four out of five parents let their children make their own food decisions.
    • Ammy EWSIS

A child's weight is highly influenced by their food choices and family meals. It plays a critical role on their diet.Hence if a parent lets their own child make their own food choices, then that wouldn't be good since kids enjoy eating junk food and fast food, which doesn't do any justice to their bodies. Instead, they should be eating healthy nutritious foods such as vegetables and fruits. It is important for the parent to be in charge of what their child consumes. I found out from another source that studies have shown that almost all childs who are overweight, are due to their parents giving them control over what they want to eat.
  • Breast-feeding for example may protect against obesity in later life with the duration of breast-feeding inversely associated with the risk of being overweight later on.
    • Ammy EWSIS

How does breast feeding contribute to preventing child obesity? Where are the facts to support this?
  • Stress can influence a child's eating habits.
    • Ammy EWSIS

I agree because sometimes when people are stressed, they tend to eat a lot, because eating usually makes them feel better and happier.
    • Ammy EWSIS

However, in some case, its different for other people. For example, females are very conscious about their own body appearance. They are very strict to themselves when it comes to having a nice body image. When influenced by a magazine model to look thin, they would binge and not eat; which later on leads to a serious case of anorexia.
  • Childhood obesity however can also lead to life-threatening conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep problems, cancer, and other disorders.[6][7] Some of the other disorders would include liver disease, early puberty or menarche, eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia, skin infections, and asthma and other respiratory problems.
    • Ammy EWSIS

Yes this is very true. Child obesity can lead to any of these risky factors.
  • Many children fail to exercise because they are spending time doing stationary activities such as playing video games or watching TV. TV and other technology may be large factors of physically inactive children.

There was a woman there whose son was inside the prison at the time of the earthquake, and he was gone. She was looking for him. The prison is entirely empty. The roof just seems to have disappeared, sort of collapsed in on the building. And I believe there was a fire there, as well. Parts of the building were charred. So I think it’s, you know, a state of chaos in really different parts of the city.

Mexico takes lead in launching national campaign against human trafficking - 0 views

  •
I'm learning about human trafficking right now, and in particular what im wondering about is: why would people do that? i researched my question online and this article caught my attention. "Traffickers seek out vulnerable victims and coerce them into situations of exploitation. One such example is Maria (not her real name), an 8-year old girl who was forcibly removed from her home in Guatemala by a child trafficking ring and taken to a brothel in Cancún two years ago. Maria is now staying in a shelter for victims of human trafficking in Mexico City" The quote i chose here is basically saying that the traffickers picked up an innocent 8 year old girl and turned her into a prostitute. People are disgusting and will do anything for money. They just go and pick up people and think they can do whatever they want with them. As if we were just livestock.

I'm learning more about Women Empowerment right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: What do women have to empower?. I was researching this question online and this news item caught my attention because it talks about Mexico launching national campaign against human trafficking. I chose this item to read because I know that this situation is the top problem in the world. The title tells makes you think tons of things like for example that they want to end this problem. There are other countries who traffics a lot. "14 April 2010 - Mexico today took the lead in putting human trafficking on the global agenda by launching its own national version of the United Nations "Blue Heart" campaign against human trafficking." The quote I chose here is basically saying that they are come with an organization to deal with the Mexican Traffickers. They want to improve. It is almost like the United Nations in the USA. They want to make their own version. I think this is strong because it makes me wonder about how all the time the traffickers have to hide from the police. Their poor family are suffering. If they get caught they are in jail or they die. They get a lot of money. I want to know out of the entire world how many traffickers are in the world.

  • A special session to commemorate International Women’s Day on 25 March at ESCAP headquarters in Bangkok, with the theme, “Women Speak Up: Voices from the Informal Sector,” heard messages about valuing women’s informal work and their contributions to the global economy. The event included a discussion on women informal workers, addressing accountability and the need to affirm the value of women’s work in the informal sector while making linkages with migration, HIV, violence against women and women’s leadership.
  • “We must have the involvement of women and girls in finding effective solutions. It is women who raise sons and daughters and are influencing children’s attitudes and values about gender equality and human rights,” said keynote speaker Dr. Saisuree Chutikul, a former Minister attached to the Office of the Prime Minister of Thailand and current member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. “They should have freedom to express their views, to participate in decision-making and have leadership roles in areas of their concern.”

I have been learning about women's rights at the moment. I actually stumbled on this article an article similar to this one before hand. This article was a previous one to the one I bookmarked before. I have been wondering though...What about the non believers?....I mean there are always people who don't believe the same thing as you and will discourage you from reaching your goals. ""My mother has been trying to discourage me from attending school since I have reached the age of being married," says Shekeba, a 15-year-old participant. "The exchange with my friends in the YICC has made me understand that we are all in a similar situation and that this cannot continue." " The quote I chose here kind of tells me about the people who disapprove of women's rights...even if they are women themselves. It's really interesting to see someone discourage something like that. I mean they're going to benefit from it too...so I don't get it kind of. I guess they just want things back to being what it usually was. I love it though how the girl in this article isn't going to listen to what her mom is disapproving and is following what she believes in. I think this is important for us, young people to do...since we are the future...

It makes me wonder if everyone is like this around the world. Domestic violence is a crime and that is wrong. The people who actually does this should put in jail.

Smoking Side Effects - 3 Smoking Hazards and a List of Illnesses Brought about by the Vice - 4 views

One of them is "Cancer of the lungs, troubles in the respiratory system as well as heart diseases are only few of the illnesses you can obtain from constantly smoking cigarette. These hazards of smoking are intensifying every year." People should stop smoking especially for their love ones. My grandpa smokes and I dont like seeing him do that. I tell him everytime to stop but he doesnt listen and the reason is because he is addicted to it. This is the biggest effect of smoking , is that you can get addicted to it and its hard for one to stop. There are help for people who wants to quit but sometimes its hard.

Why Can't I dream anymore? - 1 views

  •
I been researching on why certain people can't dream. As I was looking for answers, I came upon this website. It caught my attention because of its title. The title and my question is both the same. What that website said is "Sometimes where we are at in our internal processing is so deep that there are no recognizable symbols to be given to the dreamer by the deeper level of consciousness. Think of it as a meal not fully cooked - therefore not ready to be served. Trust the process. Relax in the reassurance that your dreams will resume." Its basically saying that we are not deeply asleep yet therefore no dreams are coming to us. The peson related it to a not fully cooked meal. When the meal is not cooked fully, its not ready to be eaten. Same goes with if you are not deeply asleep, there will be no dreams. So, just relax, be patient, and try to sleep well. Close your eyes and wait. Everyone has to dream.

And diabetes is no minor disease. It is causing a health crisis in our city: "The somatic consequences of diabetes - including a greatly increased risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, blindness, renal failure, and amputations - are well-known and documented. Researchers are now also focusing on its devastating effects on mental health, as diabetic New Yorkers are 1.9 times more likely than nondiabetic residents to suffer from depression, anxiety, and other psychological disorders (6)."

Mexico launch Blue Heart campaign against human trafficking - 0 views

I'm learning more about Empowering Woman right now, and in particular what I wondering about about is: Why is Human Trafficking so important, and why does it relate to Woman's rights? I was researching this question online, and this new article caught my attention because it relates to my question and human trafficking is commonly found in woman cases. Human trafficking is a nation wide problem that needs to be solved. "We have to act now in raising awareness in the whole of society, we have to act now with the determination to put an end to inhuman practices which turn people into merchandise, because human beings are not and cannot be for sale." The quote I chose here is basically saying the world should be more involved in stopping inhuman actions that affects the people all over the world. I also know why girls are constantly used for human trafficking, they rape and do horrible unorthodox actions to the girls. I think this is disgusting because people are being slaughter for their body parts. It makes me wonder how sick these people are. I don't know how people do that, woman should come together and fight against these horrid actions.

Existentialism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • Existentialist thinkers focus on the question of concrete human existence and the conditions of this existence rather than hypothesizing a human essence, stressing that the human essence is determined through life choices.
    • jsmith4

This relates to my topic and is significant due to the fact that this is exactly what I try to explain in my essays. It says in this quote that the essence of being human is determined by "life choices" . I have mentioned this in one of my earlier essays, what we do makes us unlike any other kind of life form.also those "life choices" are what all my other essays are about. When I am talking about the human cycle and all its rules, I am talking about what you do and dont do to ruin this human process.
  • " Man exists in a state of distance from the world that he nonetheless remains in the midst of. This distance is what enables man to project meaning into the disinterested world of in-itselfs.
    • jsmith4

Let me break this down, you see what he is trying to say is that even though we come from the world and are here, we are still different from it. You see when two things are the same, it doesnt make sense for them to give things off to each other cause they both have the same things and are made up of the same parts. This goes back to what i mentioned about betterment and acheiving a sense of hightened enlightenment. The point of us being here is to give off something to the world and everything around us,in doing this...we better ourselves. Think about this....when you are away from something....you can go towards it.
  • A central proposition of existentialism is that existence precedes essence, which means that the actual life of the individual is what constitutes what could be called his or her "essence" instead of there being a predetermined essence that defines what it is to be a human.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • It is often claimed in this context that a person defines himself, which is often perceived as stating that we can "wish" to be something — anything, a bird, for instance — and then be it. According to most existentialist philosophers, however, this would be an inauthentic existence. What is meant by the statement is that a person is (1) defined only insofar as he or she acts and (2) that he or she is responsible for his or her actions. For example, someone who acts cruelly towards other people is, by that act, defined as a cruel person. Furthermore, by this action of cruelty such persons are themselves responsible for their new identity (a cruel person).
  • "man first of all exists, encounters himself, surges up in the world – and defines himself afterwards." Of course, the more positive, therapeutic aspect of this is also implied: A person can choose to act in a different way, and to be a good person instead of a cruel person. Here it is also clear that since man can choose to be either cruel or good, he is, in fact, neither of these things essentially. [

Help For Shopaholics Stop Compulsive Shopping - 0 views

  •
Have you ever felt like you need to go shopping and shopping everyday until you brought everything you wanted? Something that I have been interested in learning more about has been Shopaholics. I remember seeing this movie last year that made me wonder about people who are Shopaholics. Lately, the issue has caught my eye again. I know that many people feel that being Shopaholic is really bad because it damages your living style. From what I have heard, being Shopaholic isn't something bad. It's just a way of being. You just shop and shop. It's not like if you creating a crime. I know that it's like a sickness that can't make you stop. But if it's really affecting your life then you have to give that up. For example, I heard that Shopaholic is more like able to be out of control. Shopping does not only effect the shopper it also effects family members, spouses, loved ones and friends. Many times married over active spenders will be divorced and in debt before they can control their spending habits. Now that's just what I've heard, it may or may not be true. One thing that I know for sure about is that Shopaholics do suffer a lot when it comes to money. Many Shopaholics end up having a big amount of budget. And I also know that Compulsive shopping is a serious condition that affects thousands of people's lives in America. Another fact that I know is that one major key to successfully overcoming compulsive shopping is simply taking responsibility for ones own actions. Stop denying the problem and or blaming others. Shopaholics who truly want help need to say enough is enough. Once a shopaholic realizes that shopping is just not worth the troubles that are caused from shopping excessively things get much easier. Make the decision to change and change will come. Now I've studied my share of Philosophy, and I believe that if being a Shopaholic damages your life... then you should make a change to take that out of your life. Personally, it's funny to me

I'm currently learning more about eating disorders, a very popular topic about teens. I am listening to a podcast that talks about girls blogging on the internet and joining forums chatting with other people who are also trying to become thin. Just listening to the podcast makes me really wonder whats wrong with the girls and why they are torturing their bodies like that. The podcast read a girls blog that said, " i forgot to delete the history on my internet and my mom had saw what i had been on. Anaboot camp anorexic queen etc. Now shes watching me like a hawk. Im only on now because shes at the pub. It was my 100 calorie diet and i did fine until dinner. She shoved a white roll down my throat and a bunch of chicken . probably like 300 calories. Ugh, I can feel myself getting fatter. I need tips to get her off my back." It's crazy how girls take their physical image so seriously.I would understand, because I'm a girl also, but I would never starve myself like that ! I would skip dinner, but I would Never survive off drinking tea the whole day. That's just really harmful to your body. The podcasts talks about ways they can help these girls recover from anorexic by promoting pro-recovery sites. However, not all of the users who went on those blog, were females. There were also males. What i found most shocking was that there was even a 54 year old who blogged about their diet... The blogs are very interesting because the people talk about what they are going their and express their feelings for people on the internet to see. The most helpful way to prevent younger kids to going on these pro-anorexia sites, is to talk to them about it and teach them about the consequences...

The good thing is that at least the President survive. He is the one that now has to think about what to do next. It's so sad.

TED 2010: Reality Is Broken. Game Designers Must Fix It | Epicenter | Wired.com - 2 views

I'm looking into Jane McGonigal's work around ARG's - Alternate Reality Games. In particular I'm wondering how playing one of these games changes the way people interact because they are thinking differently. This is what McGonigal has to say about such changes: "Games, when you play them with other people, … actually strengthen the reward circuitry so it actually makes people more social and more likely to collaborate because their brains are actually more responsive to people online and offline. Games are transforming the brains of people who play them in largely positive ways." She is saying that by playing a game, we adopt a role and use our brains differently. This expands what is possible in our brains, and has impacts on what we do in life after we are finished playing the games. And this is what games should do: change how we live our lives when the games aren't there. Like art helps us see differently, games should help us live by different rules, recognize different systems than we saw before playing the game.

"Health Main article: Health in Ethiopia According to the head of the World Bank's Global HIV/AIDS Program, Ethiopia has only 1 medical doctor per 100,000 people.[115] However, the World Health Organization in its 2006 World Health Report gives a figure of 1936 physicians (for 2003),[116] which comes to about 2.6 per 100,000. Globalization is said to affect the country, with many educated professionals leaving Ethiopia for a better economic opportunity in the West. Ethiopia's main health problems are said to be communicable diseases caused by poor sanitation and malnutrition. These problems are exacerbated by the shortage of trained manpower and health facilities.[117] There are 119 hospitals (12 in Addis Ababa alone) and 412 health centers in Ethiopia.[118] Ethiopia has a relatively low average life expectancy of 45 years.[119] Infant mortality rates are relatively very high, as over 8% of infants die during or shortly after childbirth,[119] (although this is a dramatic decrease from 16% in 1965) while birth-related complications such as obstetric fistula affect many of the nation's women. HIV is also prevalent in the country."

Sexism is still around in the world and it seems like a big conflict as well. Women and men should have equal rights in every way. If men had less rights then women then there would be the same problem in the world probably even more chaotic. If we were treated like this it goes bothw ays we should treat others on how we are treated. ""As the police are responsible for investigating gender and domestic violence cases, they have to understand gender inequalities and gender-based violence," said Violet Kaberanze, a consultant at the Centre, which runs a hotline. "This helps them listen to victims, take violence against women as a security and human rights issue and to be compassionate to them." Well in the world there is always conflicts. Conflicts usually are resolved after a period of time. Even the U.S has suffered of sexism period and segregation. There are also problems like genocide not so long ago. We shouldn't take part in other countries beliefs even though it's not right to give women equal rights. We will have to wait and hope for their rights. It'll eventually turn out good.

I'm learning about Nursing Programs right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is what does a nursing program offer and is it good? According to Murray-Schmidt, the students are enrolled in an accelerated nursing program, meaning that students who successfully complete four consecutive semesters of study will receive a two-year degree in 18 months. The course work is considered very vigorous and demands unwavering dedication and commitment from the students; clinical courses that are covered over six and 10 weeks during the regular school year are consolidated into four weeks during the summer months. "This group of students entered into the program in January of this year and will graduate with associate's degrees in May 2010. They will be eligible to take the registered nurse licensing exam at that time. Western currently holds a 91 percent examination pass rate. This ranking places them among those that are third from the top of 16 in the Wisconsin Technical College System and fifth from the top in the state of Wisconsin, inclusive of all two- and four-year nursing programs. This figure is based on April, May, and June exam candidates, and it is predicted to rise higher in the next quarter". This quote I chose is basically saying that a nursing programs is good in many ways. A nursing program helps you a start the career that you want. Starting from what you know to what you don't know.

Central Valley Communists: Racism and Capitalism: A Poem from comrade Matt - 0 views

I'm learning more about racism right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is how the people treat each other. I was researching this question online, and this poem caught my attention because It tells how people treat African Americans. The title of the poem is called "Racism and Capitalism." Here is the quote I chose "We are the people And you cannot lift a finger for the immigrants Without the courage to raise your fist In defense of all of us And you cannot solve black poverty Without solving all poverty." The quote I chose here is basically saying African Americans are not going to be equal like normal human unless they fight with their individual rights. I think this is not right because people used to treat African American like slaves. African American don't have rights in everywhere. When the rich kids passed by the cities, they were told to be careful with their wallet. It makes me wonder that we, as human being, why there are difference between people? Are we equal to each other?
