Mexico launch Blue Heart campaign against human trafficking - 0 views

  • It is an honour for Mexicans to be the first country on the American continent and in the world to join and launch from here this important prevention campaign, and raise awareness about this crime of human trafficking.
  • We have to act now in raising awareness in the whole of society, we have to act now with the determination to put an end to inhuman practices which turn people into merchandise, because human beings are not and cannot be for sale."

I'm learning more about Empowering Woman right now, and in particular what I wondering about about is: Why is Human Trafficking so important, and why does it relate to Woman's rights? I was researching this question online, and this new article caught my attention because it relates to my question and human trafficking is commonly found in woman cases. Human trafficking is a nation wide problem that needs to be solved. "We have to act now in raising awareness in the whole of society, we have to act now with the determination to put an end to inhuman practices which turn people into merchandise, because human beings are not and cannot be for sale." The quote I chose here is basically saying the world should be more involved in stopping inhuman actions that affects the people all over the world. I also know why girls are constantly used for human trafficking, they rape and do horrible unorthodox actions to the girls. I think this is disgusting because people are being slaughter for their body parts. It makes me wonder how sick these people are. I don't know how people do that, woman should come together and fight against these horrid actions.

Queens sees huge surge in demand for emergency meals and food - 1 views

I'm learning more about food security in Africa as well as New York right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: why is food security a problem in New York City, the city that I live in. I was researching this question online, and this news article caught my attention because it shows how my community is suffering from food security. Food security affects the world and the people around us. "We need to make sure we're helping children and families who were hit the hardest by this economy,' Gillibrand said." The quote I chose here is basically saying that we as a country are suffering from hunger. This is very surprising because children and families are suffering and we should help them. The economy affected the rate of food security, because a lot of adults lost their jobs and now they cant afford to put food on the table. I think this is shocking because so many people lost their jobs in the last two years with the economic crisis that now, thousands of children and families are suffering. It makes me wonder how many people are suffering from hunger not only in the US or Africa, but the whole world. I found out that India is going through some food crisis and that many children are dying from hunger. I don't think this is an issue not many people think about. That's what makes me think.

2010 Haiti earthquake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • The United States Geological Survey recorded a series of aftershocks, fourteen of them between magnitudes 5.0 and 5.9.[7] The International Red Cross has stated that as many as 3 million people have been affected by the quake,[8] with as many as 100,000 deaths likely, according to the prime minister.[9]

  • According to MSNBC.com and NBC News, United States Geological Survey geophysicist Kristin Marano called it the strongest earthquake since the devastating 1770 earthquake in what is now Haiti. According to Moreau de Saint-Méry (1750–1819), while "only one masonry building had not collapsed" in Port-au-Prince during the 18 October 1751 earthquake, "the whole city collapsed" during the earthquake of 3 June 1770. The city of Cap-Haïtien and other cities in the northern part of Haiti and the Dominican Republic were destroyed in an earthquake on 7 May 1842.[18] In 1946, a magnitude-8.0 earthquake struck the Dominican Republic and also shook Haiti, producing a tsunami that killed 1,790 people and injured many others.[19]

  • Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.[23] The country is ranked 149th, of 182 countries, on the Human Development Index.[24] There is concern about the emergency services' ability to cope with a major disaster,[25] and the country is considered "economically vulnerable" by the Food and Agriculture Organization.[26]

Like i said before Haiti is a very poor country that can't afford the things the US. or other more powerful countries can. It is sad and people should donate and try to help them to gain their economy back to "normal".
  • The earthquake occurred inland, on 12 January 2010, approximately 25 kilometres (16 mi) WSW from Port-au-Prince at a depth of 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) at 16:53 UTC-5[6] on the Enriquillo-Plantain Garden fault system.[2

I'm learning more about butterflies right now, and in particular I'm wondering about is: are butterflies a symbol of freedom? I was researching this question online, and this blog post caught my attention because it is part of my essay. Butterflies are free little creatures, they're so beautiful &amazing. I love butterflies. "Since a butterfly can make no sound, the butterfly can not reveal the wish to anyone but the Great Spirit who hears and sees all. In gratitude for giving the beautiful butterfly its freedom," The quote I chose here is basically saying butterflies were granted freedom from the Great Spirit.

Why do people get depressed? « Chaotic Soul - 1 views

  •
"Quarter Life. Obviously, 25 is a quarter of your life. It's the time when you thought of the things you've done, achieved, where you are right now, etc."
  •
My topic is Depression and what causes depression. If you think about it it's really a broad topic, their isn't ONE reason why people get depress; their's many. I wold like to say that the main reason for the cause of depression is love. Love can affect a person so much, look at Michael Jackson -God rest his soul. When you become depressed theirs millions of causes and here is one of them. I think that this quote can lead to depression because when you think about the last 25 years about you life it has it's ups and downs. Nothing is perfect and what it seems. Some people think about pasrt relationships and it really hurts them when they think or "relive" the moment in their minds. Some people can't handle the past because they didn't "achive" their goal or dream and that brings them down, so I see what this quote is trying to say. I like this quote a lot. It really makes you think about your past and where you are right now when it comes to money, family, and everything else. And yes money can make a peson depressed.
