Hey guys. Just watched a live session online at Cisco w the developers of this system, still in development, but interesting differentiators vs 2Life, e.g. peer-to-peer, nested worlds, oh and its open-source. Thought yaz might be interested in tracking it.

Google's opensource "CloudCourse allows anyone to create and track learning activities" hmm... oh and hootcourse looks pretty cool too! Creepy tree house anyone?

Great guide put together from a series of blog posts. Talks about various techniques for blogging, podcasting, photo work, etc and takes a no-nonsense view of learning these tools and taking responsibility for yourself when using technology. Most things are valid outside of journalism so this is useful for all.

Across Europe, Ministries of Education and other providers of educational content are now offering a wide-range of catalogues and large repositories of online learning resources to schools. However, as the number of resources in these repositories continues to expand, educational budgets are struggling to cope with the increasing demand for better quality metadata that will enable teachers and learners to quickly and easily find the specific learning materials they need. The MELT project has been specifically designed to address this issue by: * Enhancing the precision of the metadata applied to educational content * Helping educational content providers meet the growing challenge of volume metadata creation.

College students love their smartphones. They use them in a myriad of ways and there's the data to prove it. "Higher education institutions face a number of opportunities and challenges as the result of the digital revolution. The institutions perform a number of scholarship functions which can be affected by new technologies, and the desire is to retain these functions where appropriate, whilst the form they take may change. Much of the reaction to technological change comes from those with a vested interest in either wholesale change or maintaining the status quo. Taking the resilience metaphor from ecology, the authors propose a framework for analysing an institution's ability to adapt to digital challenges. This framework is examined at two institutions (the UK Open University and Canada's Athabasca University) using two current digital challenges, namely Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and Open Access publishing."

"Evidence shows that engaged students perform better academically than disinterested students. Measurement of engagement with education is difficult and imprecise, especially in large student cohorts. Traditional measurements such as summary statistics derived from assessment are crude secondary measures of engagement at best and do not provide much support for educators to work with students and curate engagement during teaching periods. We have used academic-related student contributions to a public social network as a proxy for engagement. Statistical summaries and novel data visualisation tools provide subtle and powerful insights into online student peer networks. Analysis of data collected shows that network visualisation can be an important curation tool for educators interested in cultivating student engagement."

The purpose of this study was to explore group forming strategies by examining participation behaviours during whole class discussions associated with active participation in a following small group activity. In-class behaviour correlated with online behaviour.
