"We propose a framework for organizing multiple metadata specifications in a container that can be handled as a whole. This framework, named Information for Learning Object eXchange (ILOX), is developed as part of the IMS Learning Object Discovery & Exchange (LODE) specification that aims to facilitate the discovery and retrieval of learning objects stored across more than one collection. While thus far ILOX has been demonstrated to resolve a number of challenges specific to the e-learning domain, it is a generic framework that can be profiled to organize metadata about any type of digital content."

Across Europe, Ministries of Education and other providers of educational content are now offering a wide-range of catalogues and large repositories of online learning resources to schools. However, as the number of resources in these repositories continues to expand, educational budgets are struggling to cope with the increasing demand for better quality metadata that will enable teachers and learners to quickly and easily find the specific learning materials they need. The MELT project has been specifically designed to address this issue by: * Enhancing the precision of the metadata applied to educational content * Helping educational content providers meet the growing challenge of volume metadata creation.

A point that Professor César Hidalgo and graduate students Daniel Smilkov and Deepak Jagdish of MIT are trying to get across. They have created a new program called Immersion. It works by signing you into your Gmail account and collecting only the meta-data from your account usage history. From there you can get a picture of your emailing habits from that single account, and you will be shocked at what you see."

"I've been testing the alpha release of CaPRéT , a tool that aids attribution and tracking of openly licensed content from web sites. According to the Caprét website. When a user cuts and pastes text from a CaPRéT-enabled site: The user gets the text as originally cut, and if their application supports the pasted text will also automatically include attribution and licensing information.The OER site can also track what text was cut, allowing them to better understand how users are using their site."
