Principles of Design Contrast - 0 views

  •
This article was my favorite not only because it represents the main points with using contrast but it talks about using contrast in jewelry design. It goes to show that contrast is used in many different things. In jewelry it is used to show the different elements in a jewelry piece. It talks about the contrast in color in a bead can help draw attention to the jewelry piece. In the contrast of scale it discusses the size of the bead that helps the jewelry stand out. It also describes the contrast of shape and of value. The website then has pictures of different jewelry pieces that show how each type of contrast is used differently

The Small Print: Writing User Interface Instructions - 1 views

This seems like a fantastic resource for technical writers or any other creator of instructional materials. I like that emphasis is given to the planning, thinking and analyzing of the content and audience before even beginning to write the instructions. There are several good bits of advice in this site.

I think this is the best one I have seen so far Mitch. It is easier to read and understand and has very valueable information.
  •
This site is very specific to writing instructions, some very good advice and much more detailed than the previous two sites that I listed. Even though I like the brief sites, I also like the amount of detailed information this one give you. I recommend this site!

7 Tips for Writing an Effective Instruction Manual » SitePoint - 0 views

  •
I found this site on how to write instructions in 7 easy steps to be very simple and helpful. The first to writing instructions according to this site is to take a step back and write as though the people have zero knowledge of the subject. It wants you to know exactly what your trying to teach/get across without putting too much or too little info. After this creating an outline is a good idea before just starting your project with no plan. The next two steps according to this site are to make your instructions easy to understand and make them brief as well. Lastly they suggest the use of visual aids, such as videos or diagrams, and to give it a test drive to get out any kinks.

I like this article because it gives you basic tips for writing instructions. This is a great article to read if you are in the first stage of writing instructions. This article is a good starting off point.

I like these tips as well, they are very similar to the previous one that I had posted only it had a few more points added with tips like adding visual guides. I am more a visual hands on type person so that was a great tip!

Some more great tools although similar to the other one that I bookmarked. This one is short and to the point.

The Kat Eye View of the World: Exploring with a Camera: Visual Contrast - 0 views

This website is designed for a photographer, but in writing we would be using photographs so it is applicable. It goes beyond the normal dark/light and explores large/small, old/young, and other color contrasts. It puts contrast in a different light from what we normally think of as contrast.

Beside photos and written pieces, the principles of contrast can also be applied to objects. The color contrast in this design is clear. The pink sitting area on this bookshelf is the main focal point of this piece.

I wanted to bookmark this pihotographs because it is a great example of contrast. The prominent piece in this photo are the leaves because it has the most intense color in the picture. This is a perfect example of warm colors mixed with bright colors. It also shows different textures to distinguish elements in contrast.

Principles of Good Design: Contrast, Lesson #6 - 0 views

Principles of contrast draws the readers eye and creates organization. "The greater the difference the greater the contrast," is a correct statement used when incorporating contrast in your design.    This is my favorite website because it shows visual examples of contrast. It also shows different elements that can be enhanced with the principles of contrast.

Epicurious.com: Recipes, Menus, Cooking Articles & Food Guides - 0 views

This website reminds me of chapter 3 because the title of the site is epicurous, and they describe what "epicurious" means right next to it in a smaller, different color font. This is like an "afterthought" - as the book says on page 54.

Cooking Channel - Recipes, Shows and Cooking Videos from Top Global Chefs : Cooking Cha... - 0 views

I think this site shows good contrast in the title too, because they're emphasizing COOKING in Cooking Channel and that word is bigger and bolder. Also, underneath the title there are a few examples. "Labor Day Summer Feast" - labor day is a different color and bolder than summer feast, drawing the readers eye to a labor day recipe.

Carolines Mode | StockholmStreetStyle - 0 views

The title of this website definitely has great contrast. It emphasizes STREETSTYLE rather than "Stockholm." I think this is a great example of the "all or nothing" example they give in the chapter. The fonts are different sizes, widths and colors. And it's emphasizing what the website is truly about, street style.

I added the "writing instructions" to this part. If you just click on the blue link up above, it should take you straight to the link.

You don't need to post a link each time...the URL stays the same after you update it. :-)

Really explains contrast thoroughly. Uses the same example to show how to change the contrast of the page. Adding things to certain parts of the pages can bring out certain elements and show contrast.
