How to Write Technical Instructions - 1 views

  •
Clear, simple instructions that explain how to write instructions. I like that this explanation implements all of the suggestions it makes in its own format. When creating my tutorial for project #1, I want to remember to "use clear and simple words" and to "be positive and focused (telling the reader what TO DO rather than what not to do)".

How to Use Visual Hierarchy in Web Design | Design Shack - 2 views

  •
This was my favorite of all the sites I found that related to the content of chapter two. The site's main focus was on the use of visual hierarchy in web design. The use of visual hierarchy has the power to improve the amount of content and information the reader actually views and absorbs on a page. With the correct use of hierarchy you can almost control what is viewed and the path that is read. According to this article position, size, color, and visual complexity are the different parts of visual hierarchy. If these different principles of visual hierarchy are applied correctly one can create the optimal page for steering their readers attention to wherever they would like.

This article relates to Chapter 1 of "Basic of Design". It reinforces the 6 steps for a design and gives an in depth example for every step. It helps you analyze and create a purpose; provides you with brainstorming rules to successfully jot down your ideas without judgement; it helps you go through a selection process which relates to thumbnail sketches and comp, etc.

D#1, HW#1 Strategic Design: 6 Steps For Building Successful Websites - Smashing Magazine - 0 views

  •
This website focuses more on building a design for a successful website, but it's another example of using the same strategic steps in chapter one of "Basic of Design". I especially am drawn to the second step of this website "Identify your audience". Nowadays new technology being introduced to a variety of generations can be somewhat tricky. The fact that they mentioned "technical competency" as a consideration, gives a better understanding of who you will be dealing with and what levels of technology to consider.

D# 2 HW# 2 Emphasis in Web Design - 2 views

  •
This page goes over similar material covered in Chp 2 with an emphasis :) in webs design. Brief but interesting.
  •
Trying to make everything on a Web page stand out means that nothing will stand out. Good designers learn to use emphasis wisely so that the important parts of the layout dominate without overwhelming and there is a visual hierarchy that leads the reader through the Web page.

D#2, HW#2-Chapter 2 Website - 1 views

  •
D#2, HW#2 I thought that this was the best website that demonstrated Chapter 2 in my opinion. The website talks about the same kind of elements as in the chapter including size, color, weight, and style. I also enjoyed it because the writer explained, like the book, the reason for each of these techniques and why they help the reader get the information that is being shown to them.
