    This page is similar to the textbook, which makes it a perfect example of how contrast works. It takes two examples of advertisements and allows readers to compare the two, to determine which leaves a lasting effect on the reader. Both advertisements are from the same people or corporation. It is apparent the first advertisement uses contrast more effectively and personally leaves a better lasting impression on me.

The rise of advertising and of mass media such as photography, telegraphy, radio, and film brought rhetoric more prominently into people's lives. Reflecting this, more recently the term rhetoric has been applied to media forms other than verbal language, e.g. Visual rhetoric. The goal is to analyze how non-verbal communication persuades. For example, a soft drink advertisement showing an image of young people drinking and laughing is making the case that the consumer, by using the product, will be healthy and happy.

I thought that was pretty cool. It also gives examples of what new media is, and how it is affecting our communities through globalization and social change

    This site offers 110 suggestions made by actual bloggers on how to improve a blog! While a number of them cannot be applied to my course blog (I'm not collaborating with anyone else, for example), there was still plenty of relevant advice. Even though I am given the topics to cover, I can still let my own personality come through. This relates to the course outcome of performance; a blog needs to feel like it was written by a human being and not by a robot.  I could also start adding videos that contribute to my audience's understanding. I know that the sample rhetoric on the town assignment included a video of the advertisement the student had analyzed. Another good suggestion is to break up the paragraphs, which I try to do, or use bullet points. Another blogger suggests using subheads.

    Contrast- The use of red lettering for the title of the company and well for having a model as the background for the page. With centered bigger letters in the center of the page. With a small picture in the corner scrolling through. Repetition- This can be seen through the small font used for the links on this page. That's all though. Allignment- The menu on the left is all alligned to the left while the menu at the top is in a straight line that looks centered. And in the bottom right corner there's a picture box. Proximitiy- There's a lot of room on the page. There is hardly any pictures posted on here and the picture box that is shown is very small and takes up little room. Same goes for the links where the fonts are small and do not take up any room at all. *Note* There are advertising sustainable styles so I wonder if they were potraying that through the use of saving space?

    The home page of the Wall Street journal is a site that I think has adhered well to the good use of design principles we have discussed. Certain elements (location of links, tools, etc) are consistent, repeated no matter where your in-site browsing leads. It is always a simple matter to return the home page, and the content, though varied in topic and section, are placed and located in instantly comfortable page areas. The use of color and contrast to delineate different sections draw the eyes right where they need to be, and the fusion of advertising and written content is fused seamlessly. This website is nearly overflowing with all manner of content, yet the design and appearance of the home page is neither cluttered nor confusing. I believe this is an excellent example of the successful use of C.R.A.P. design elements.

    I found this web page to be very resourceful. I'm always looking for visual examples and this website had all great examples using real life web pages. It points out exactly what is "flowing" in the design. It gave me great ideas on how to use flow with images and even shapes.

    This is my favorite of the websites that helped supplement my understanding because it not only explains flow and visual movement but shows examples and each aspect of the example that demonstrates flow. This helps me see exactly how flow can be used, and in all types of different ways.
