Vorige week hadden we Paul Hagedoren in deel 1 van de rubriek The Coach Formerly Known As Athlete. Deel één ging over Paul Hagedoren als atleet. Vandaag deel twee waarin Paul Hagedoren aan het woord komt als trainer. Hagedoren geeft trainer aan de Mila groep bij de Unitas, de vereniging waar hij zelf al 30 jaar lid is.

Summary (from the website): European Athletics houdt een enquête naar de rol van de vrouwen in de atletiek en de kloof die hen scheidt van de macht. De Atletiekunie roept atleten, coaches en andere betrokkenen bij haar sport op om de betreffende vragenlijsten in te vullen. De enquête is onderdeel van het project "Closing the Leadership Gender Gap in European Athletics", dat wordt gefinancierd door de Europese Unie en wordt gecoördineerd door de Atletiekunie. De enquête vormt deel 1 van een driedelig onderzoek. Na afronding van deel 1 worden deelnemers automatisch uitgenodigd om ook mee te doen aan deel 2 en 3. Onder de deelnemers wordt een reis naar de EK indoor in Parijs verloot.

Ondanks ongunstige warme omstandigheden en bijzonder een harde wind, wisten de MiLa atleten van Achilles op de atletiekbaan van Attila in Tilburg goed te presteren Door het wegvallen van de Nijmegen Global Athletics sprong de organisatie van Attita, Tilburg Ten Miles en de Warandeloop in dit gat op de Nederlandse baankalender. En met succes, want tal van Nederlandse top-lopers en -loopsters, met name op 1.500 en 5.000 meter, kwamen op vrijdagavond ondanks de Pinksterdrukte op de weg, naar Tilburg. Zo ook een aantal Achilles-LTV atleten, die hier probeerden hun PR aan te scherpen of zich te kwalificeren voor een volgend Nederlands Kampioenschap.

Goucher may be a world class athlete but she is also just like every one of us. In a Runner's World article by Bruce Barcott, Goucher admits she struggles with negative thoughts and self doubt that can make or break a race. Working out and training are only half the battle. The other half, possibly the hardest part, is mental. Goucher is working with her coach on mental strength, belief in her abilities, and not comparing herself to others. It seems to be paying off and in 2009 she finished third in the Boston Marathon. Just imagine what she will accomplish once she overcomes her inner demons. That's a lesson we can all learn from.
