Therapy Protocols - 3 views

  •
I thought this website was really interesting, because it tells us what to expect for UE and LE surgeries. Hip replacement protocols are on here too (total, anterior, posterior). it also tells us what to look for like infection or swelling, or what modalities to use. I hope this is helpful or interesting to read about!

I found this video to be fascinating! This LE amputee built a prosthesis out of legos. I know this is not very educational, however, it amazes me that anything Is possible with the correct mind set.

Robotic advances promise artificial legs that emulate healthy limbs - 2 views

  •
This may be old news from almost a year ago, but i found this on the Vanderbilt website about how Dr. Michael Goldfarb has been working on robotic legs that emulates healthy limbs. It explains his research and his building of these legs. I found in the article that Dr. Goldfarb was also named one of the top 10 innovators who changed the world in 2013 for developing an exoskeleton that allows paraplegics to stand up and walk.

Prosthetic Parts and Options - 0 views

  •
This is an easy-to-understand webpage that describes the parts of a LE prosthesis. The material is more descriptive and more current, in my opinion, than what appears in our textbook. It also includes sections on prosthesis fitting and care of the residual limb. This resource would be good to recommend to a patient prior to or shortly after amputation. It also has professional version of the same material.

THE WORLD'S FIRST WHEELCHAIR FITNESS TRACKER - 0 views

  •
There has been a technology boom in wearable fitness trackers lately and I was curious to see if there was anything available to individuals who use a wheelchair as their main mode of transportation, whether due to LE amputations, spinal injury, etc. I came across this company who has created a fitness tracker specially designed for those who use a wheelchair. It not only maps incline, speed, heart rate and distance, but also aggregates data used for terrain mapping. This info can be used to give options for routes based on ease of maneuverability and safety.

People with lower limb amputation and their sexual functioning and sexual well-being - 0 views

  •
This seems like about the only research out there on sex with an LE amputation. ABSTRACT: Sexual adjustment following lower extremity amputation was evaluated by interviewing 60 adults with recent amputations, 39 men and 21 women, after they had become independent in ambulation with a prosthesis. Among the men, 77% reported a substantial decrease in the frequency of sexual intercourse following amputation, while only 38% of the women reported a decrease.

Standing Wheelchair - 0 views

  •
This video is from a marketing demonstration of a new type of wheelchair that can allow clients with a LE manual muscle grade of 0 to be able to self propel themselves from a standing position. While not a solve all, it certainly has some interesting implications.

There are several video resources located here LE Amputee. Narrated by Paddy Rossbach, RN, former President and CEO These demonstrations are to help you learn to manage after a lower extremity amputation. They are not to take the place of your regular rehabilitation or medical care; rather they should serve as a reference or reminder of what you are being taught.
