I feel all health care providers should read this article not just OT's. This article talks about how patients may be feeling after being diagnosed with cancer and how we should help them through this. They may not be able to do a lot of the things they were doing but these things are still important to them. It is our job to help them believe that there is still hope. As a health care provider and a daughter of someone that had been diagnosed with cancer, I totally agree with this article. Just because they are diagnosed doesn't mean they have to loose hope.

This is well worth reading if your loved one has been diagnosed with cancer. My niece was diagnosed with Wilm,s Tumor at the age of 2. My family and I had so many questions....this would have been beneficial to all of us. My niece has been cancer free for 10 years now

This is a very interesting read, discusses new tool that is more accurate for doctors to help diagnosis forms of dementia. It goes into more depth on the two most common types. :)

It used to be that Alzheimer's could only be determined for certain by autopsy. I believe that's changed now, with scanning techniques and biomarker testing. Tests like the one in your article give me a lot of hope that within the next generation, we'll be able not only to better treat dementias, but maybe even prevent them.

My friends mother has been diagnosed with FTD at the age of 58. I found this article while helping her research what she could expect. Thought it would be very beneficial to her as the caregiver and also us as students to have a better understanding of the different types of dementia.

I feel this is a great resource for individuals and their loved ones upon initial injury or diagnosis of an illness. It has short explanations about many different common conditions from spinal cord injury and questions one might have to psychological disorders. I feel it could be a great way for people to find out more if they wish to do it in a more private setting. It talks about sports, travel, school, work etc. It is based in Europe. Their ambassador's have disabilities so they have more insight than others might!

Dr. Gold is a 45-year dentist who sustained injuries to the right hand and cervical spine in a motor vehicle accident. After EMG testing, he was diagnosed with right carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and right cervical (C7) radiculopathy. I found this article to be very interesting. It supplies tips on bathing for patients that have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. These patients tend to be resistant to a bath but I feel many clients are. When you think about someone bathing you it takes away all your dignity and privacy. This is an AOTA article on oncology and how OT impact it in every way. It also explains the ways we would treat, and also settings too. I love how the article is focused on OT. It is very important to understand that we may be treating individuals who are on all different levels, including newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, receiving hospice or palliative care, or who are in the survivorship phase of care.

This is a MUST read!! This is an incredible story of a woman who can smell Parkinson's disease. After making this assertion, some scientists came up with an experiment to test her claim. Her smell could be a breakthrough for finding an early diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.

Occupational Therapy play a very important role with patients dealing with a cancer diagnosis. OT can help with energy conservation issues, pain, weakness, psychosocial, and physical impairments. Quality of life and independence are key. OT can be of service to people newly diagnosed, in cancer treatment, or in hospice. What I needed reminding of was that OT can help those that have survived, especially the psychosocial aspect.

This article discusses the specific areas and goals that occupational therapists may address with cancer patients. I thought the writer did a great job explaining what occupational therapy is and why the field is so important. This would be a good resource for later on if I ever go on to interview for a job in oncology, would be a nice review of how impactful OT can be.

Thought this was super interesting! A new study has found that people who have been diagnosed with parkinson's disease have found a different bacteria level in the stomach. My thoughts are... will this maybe move us forward to finding a cure? Or understanding more of the onset and why it is caused?

This is a newspaper article about a little boy diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (J.I.A.) and his mother's search for a cure. The mother thinks there is a connection between leaky gut syndrome and the JIA. It is a very interesting read, especially reading about his symptoms prior to diagnosis. (spoiler alert -- it has a good ending).

This is a heartbreaking disease. Children should be able to frolic in the fields, not have to deal with such a thing as this. :(
