  • What:The National Medicare Training Program is pleased to announce the next Understanding Medicare webinar will be held on March 6 and 7, 2012.   This webinar, which is designed for people who are new to Medicare, and for people wanting a refresher, will provide current, accurate, consistent information on Medicare, including hospital (Part A) coverage, medical (Part B) coverage, Medicare Advantage plans (Part C), and prescription drug (Part D) coverage.  The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is authorized by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) to offer 0.4 Continuing Education Units (CEU) for this program.   To receive CEU credit participants must: Complete the pre-assessment Attend all four hours of the training Complete the course registration and evaluation Complete the post-test with an aggregate score of at least 70%.   • The OPI-Division of Special Education will be offering a series of 5 webinars on secondary transition.  Providing great secondary transition services to high school youth can be challenging.  This webinar series, presented by Montana teachers and providers, will give multiple strategies on implementing secondary transition in a rural district or a large district that has provided great results for the Montana school districts that have used them.  A flyer with descriptions of each of the webinars can be found at: http://www.opi.mt.gov/pdf/SpecED/Link/10NovWebinarBestPractices.pdf The webinars are free and no registration is required.     Research shows that SUDEP takes the life of about one person per 1,000 people living with epilepsy per year. The greatest risk factor for SUDEP seems to be in those who have frequent seizures, especially generalized tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures. This webinar will begin with a brief overview SUDEP and its possible causes. The presenters will then discuss what health care professionals, people living with epilepsy and they families can do to help reduce SUDEP risk. This will include a review various strategies including better education, the use of seizure monitoring devices, improved seizure medication management, and supervision. Participants will leave with the most current thinking on ways to reduce SUDEP risk. Plenty of time will be left to answer your questions at the end of the webinar.

    Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a professional advocate? What kind of training is needed? How do I attract clients? What do I do after I'm hired? What about billing? And how do I avoid burn-out? This session provides a starting point to answer these questions. Many parents, therapists, retired school district staff, and others routinely ask me how to become a professional advocate. Of course, there is no One Right Way to do this, no certification, no road map. . . and so the goal is to help participants consider the next steps, to provide them with some information about what has worked for some professional advocates, and to connect them with resources. This presentation will cover the following issues, among others: role of the advocate, sources/types of training, work environments, attracting clients, advocate's intake and next steps, maintaining records and confidentiality, billing, pro bono work, the importance of boundaries, and networking resources. The presentation will also reference COPAA's Voluntary Code of Ethics for advocates.
