The subscriptions will begin in mid-December and will last for three months. For each individual subscription, the parent watches short online videos and then answers quizzes.     This intensive two-day training is designed to teach participants the theory behind the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and the protocols for how to appropriately implement the six phases of PECS. This is a Montana Autism Education Project sponsored training. The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) is used to rapidly teach communication skills to those with limited functional speech.  PECS promotes communication within a social context, without lengthy prerequisite training.  Training in PECS begins by teaching a spontaneous request and goes on to teach additional communicative functions such as responding to questions and commenting.  An added attraction for preschool children with autism and related disabilities is the high proportion of children who acquire independent speech.  Participants will learn how to implement the six phases of PECS, plus attributes, through presenter demonstrations, video examples and role-play opportunities.  Participants will leave the workshop with an understanding of how to implement PECS with individuals with autism, related developmental disabilities, and/or limited communication skills.  What You Will Learn: The key Pyramid components to designing effective educational environments Strategies to create an abundance of opportunities for communication The relationship between PECS and traditional communication training approaches How to implement all six phases of PECS with target individuals using a behavior analytic orientation The criteria for transitioning from PECS to other communication modalities When/Where:

    Register for this training The Montana Autism Education Project (MAEP) will be offering 22 hours of FREE online training in Autism Spectrum Disorders. This training is available 24/7 for 90 days. OPI continuing education units are available. Please visit this web page for more information and to request a subscription. REQUESTS RECEIVED AFTER DECEMBER 12 WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE GROUP WHICH STARTS IN LATE MARCH OR EARLY APRIL. A similar online training is available for the parents who have a child with an autism spectrum disorder. Interested parents should email ddoty@mt.gov with the subject line, "Online Parent Training" and include their town and the gender and age of their child. Looking for Parents to Become NAMI Basics Teachers: Training Coming in June! - 0 views

The course is designed to be taught using a co-leader training model. Both teachers must have been trained in use of the curriculum by either a NAMI National trainer or a nationally certified state trainer. Teacher trainings are expensive, time consuming and can be emotionally draining for all involved. In an effort to ensure that only the best candidates participate in the training, NAMI organizations are encouraged to use an application process to select individuals to participate in teacher trainings. There is a sample Teacher Application form in the COURSE FORMS section on page CF-1 that can be used as the first step. Individuals who are interested in being trained to teach the curriculum must meet the following criteria: Be the parent or other primary caregiver of an individual who began experiencing symptoms prior to the age of 13 (it is not necessary that the child have been formally diagnosed prior to 13). It is important that all individuals trained in this curriculum have lived through the experiences of having a young child with a mental illness. Be at a point in their life where they are familiar and comfortable with the emotional issues families face and can self-disclose about their own feelings of guilt, anger, shame, ambivalence and grief regarding their life situation. Be willing to participate in an intensive weekend training on how to teach the curriculum. Be willing to make the commitment to participants in the course, the co-leader and to the NAMI organization to complete the 15-hour course once it begins.

This training is appropriate for superintendents, transportation directors, principals, clerks, school counselors, parent liaisons or other personnel who provide services to homeless children and families. Staff from community agencies that provide services to homeless children and families are also invited to attend this training. Community agency staff members will learn how to advocate for their clients and how to effectively collaborate with schools. OPI Renewal Credits will be issued at the end of the training Workshop.

The goal is to provide high-quality, Level I training for Montana school counselors and administrators.     SENG Model Parent Groups (SMPGs) bring together 10 to 20 interested parents of gifted and talented children to discuss such topics as motivation, discipline, stress management, and peer relationships.
    The co-facilitators of the group, though they are knowledgeable about parenting and about educating gifted/talented children, do not attempt to give expert advice to families. Instead their facilitation provides a non-judgmental and nurturing atmosphere. The parents of the high-ability children are themselves a rich resource of information, and they are able to get fresh ideas from other parents and from A Parent's Guide to Gifted Children, the book around which the sessions are organized. The groups meet weekly for 8-10 weeks. By the end of the training you will understand:

Media Literacy Training - Billings - Feb. 15/March 14 & 30, 2011 - 0 views

  • Kids spend an average of more than 7 hours a day with some form of media.  As a result, they sometimes grow up having more interaction with TV, the Internet, and other media messages than people.  Media Literacy refers to the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and create media messages of all kinds.  This interactive training will explore basic concepts of media literacy by examining TV commercials, messages and print ads, and tobacco and alcohol marketing.  We will work in small and large groups to discuss the language of persuasion, deconstruct ads, and create counter messages.  After this training, participants will have a greater understanding of media literacy and walk away with tools they can use with their learners. Objective 1: Participants will define media literacy and understand some techniques of persuasion. Objective 2: Participants will understand how media literacy education helps prevent tobacco and alcohol initiation among youth. Objective 3: Participants will learn new media literacy activities and exercises they can do with their learners. The Media Literacy Professional Development Project will assist the state's school districts in meeting the Montana media literacy content standards by offering Media Literacy Professional Development (PD) to Montana teachers.  Please note that media literacy is included in both Curriculum Arts and Health Enhancement standards. There are no fees for this taining but registration is required. Mileage reimbursement will be paid for those outside the Billings area. Teacher librarians, in collaboration with other classroom and content area teachers, empower all students to become information literate. The Library-Information Literacy and Technology (LILT) will assist the state's school districts in meeting the Montana LILT standards by providing training to Montana educators.
