The National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability for Youth (NCWD/Youth) assists state and local workforce development systems to better serve all youth, including youth with disabilities and other vulnerable youth. The NCWD/Youth, created in 2001, is composed of partners with expertise in education, youth development, disability, employment, workforce development and family issues. Funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), the NCWD/Youth is housed at the Institute for Educational Leadership in Washington, D.C. NCWD/Youth offers a range of technical assistance services to state and local workforce investment boards, youth councils and other workforce development system youth programs.

What:
Participants will: Increase knowledge of current research on youth with co-occurring disorders, Be able to differentiate developmental considerations separating youth from adults with co-occurring disorders, Identify the multiple functional impacts of co-occurring disorders on youths, families and the community, Target risk and safety factors that impact functioning of youth with co-occurring disorders, Identify key protective factors that promote recovery environments with youth with co-occurring disorders, Increase utilization of resiliency-oriented engagement strategies with youth and family members, Understand how to utilize cross-system approaches to facilitate youth functioning across multiple life-domains, Understand the assessment of youth with co-occurring disorders from an integrative perspective, Understand how to structure interventions from a holistic and integrated perspective, Recognize and prepare for ethical concerns unique to youth with co-occurring disorders.

In the spirit of discovery, the annual Montana Youth Transitions (MYT) Conference will seek to answer important questions about the challenging journey into adulthood for Montana's youth with disabilities. It will be an opportunity for students, parents, teachers, vocational rehabilitaion counselors, case managers and others to network, explore resources, and discover pathways to meaningful futures! During the conference, there will be a Real LIfe Fair with vendors representing education, idependent living, recreation, employment, and other supportive services. Presenters will include well known keynotes as well as Montanans who have themselves gone through the transition process and can offer insight, guidance and support. A youth track will also be provided to start youth on their own individualized transition journey. When/Where:

What: "Mystery in Helena" is a collaboration between local businesses and the Montana Youth Leadership Forum (MYLF) as MYLF hosts a "murder mystery" fund raising event. The event is an interactive mystery game, a scenario where the audience solves the murder of fictitious character "Wyatt Twerp." The Mystery takes place in 1878 in Dodge City, Kansas. Attendees will serve as detectives and encouraged to come in costume to fit the era. Prizes will be given for best costume, best detective, and other categories. There will be two offerings of the event during the day. Money raised will be used to sponsor youth to the 2014 Forum, purchase iPads, and create a promotional video that can recruit more youth to the program. When: Saturday, February 8, 2014 2:00 pm and again at 7:00 pm Mountain Where: Lewis & Clark Fairgrounds Entry Hall 98 W Custer Ave, Helena, Mt 59602 Cost: Tickets are $30.00 per person or two for $50.00. There will be a cash bar and appetizers served during the event. There are also sponsorship packages available that include company advertisement, and ticket deals, and a VIP Hour. MYLF (pronounced "my life") is a unique career and leadership training program for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with disabilities. By serving as delegates from their communities at a 5-day intensive training, youth with disabilities will cultivate leadership, citizenship, and social skills. Delegates gain access to vital resources related to assistive technology, community support, and self-advocacy. Successful men and women with disabilities serve as role models in helping youth realize their abilities and obligations to pursue meaningful employment and contribute to society. This educational and motivational forum involves an intense schedule. When:

Through years of researching, evaluating, treating, and coaching youth and adults, Dr. Fruge' and Dr. Green-Fruge' have developed an innovative program called Preparing the Mind for Success and Competition (PMSC), which is primarily focused on At-Risk youth and young adults. Dr. Fruge' and Dr. Green-Fruge' will present their preliminary research on this innovative program and its practical application. The goal of the workshop is to provide attendants with a Functional Cultural Context to understand and navigate common challenges faced when working with At-Risk youth. Attendants will be introduced to training and psycho-therapeutic approaches to support At-Risk youth in their transition to adulthood and success.
