What:
Network with Montana educators as we explore and use digital tools to enhance global learning and engage students in the Common Core standards. Wes Fryer, author of Mapping Media to the Common Core, will be a guest as we3ll as regional technology and curriculum experts to share what is new and what works in the classroom. Participants will identify connections between digital tools and common core standards, practice using digital tools to implement Common Core standards into their practice, and create at least one product that can be used in their work setting during the upcoming school year.

CADRE's Parent Dispute Resolution Showcase is the result of feedback from parent leaders on resources that would be most helpful to parent center staff, family members, parents and professionals as they prepare to participate in the full range of dispute resolution processes and practices. This easily searchable collection of resources contains a variety of items from policy and guidance documents to preparation materials, and from brochures and factsheets to website links containing webinars and videos. These materials address the expanding continuum of dispute resolution process and practices from early prevention approaches such as stakeholder training through collaborative processes such as mediation and IEP facilitation. The Showcase also includes items related to IDEA procedures such as Written State Complaints and Due Process Hearings. This webinar will help users understand how the nearly 200 individual items contained in the Showcase are organized and different ways of accessing them. When:

What:
This workshop is an excellent opportunity to learn how to weave the English Language Arts Common Core Standards with Indian Education for All.  Presenter Dr. Tammy Elser will employ the "Many Birds Approach" from the Framework for Implementation of Indian Education for All (IEfA) to support teachers as they develop understanding of IEfA contexts and content, while addressing the skills and concepts required to implement the Montana Common Core Standards. Teachers will leave with a dozen new strategies for close analytic reading practiced in the context of some of the highly developed, and Common Core aligned, IEfA Language Arts, Social Studies and Science lessons. Strategies practiced can be taken the next day into the classroom. Demonstrations will span multiple grade levels and content areas and will be debriefed through the lens of the MCCS and the Framework's approach to integration.

Individuals who have both mental illness (MI) and intellectual/developmental disability (IDD) present clinical challenges to professionals as well as to the systems that attempt to provide care to these individuals. Clinicians frequently have difficulty in appropriately identifying a mental health disorder, even when one exists, in persons who have limited verbal skills. This six-hour workshop is designed to provide the participant with clinical information that will help in the assessment, diagnosis and support strategies necessary to provide appropriate care for this underserved group of people. The participant will learn how mental health signs and symptoms are manifested in persons with a dual diagnosis as compared to those with only mental illness. Upon completion of this training, you will: Articulate the profile and characteristics of people with MI/IDD; Articulate vulnerability factors in people with MI/IDD; Identify best practices in assessment procedures for people with MI/IDD; Identify signs and symptoms of MI in persons with IDD; Describe the major features in the Diagnostic Manual - Intellectual Disabilities (DM-ID); Describe techniques associated with supportive therapy for persons with MI/IDD; Identify the value of the NADD Accreditation and Certification Program. Each year the National Native American Parent Center presents an annual conference for Native American family members, tribal leaders, health professionals, mental health professionals, tribal, public school professionals, and others who are interested in ensuring the special education needs for Native American students who are ages 0 - 26.

Workshops focus on strategies and methods to increase outcomes for Native American students with disabilities, and increase parent involvement in the special education process. We offer information on best practices working with Native American students with disabilities to produce successful educational outcomes.
