This free workshop is for parents and professionals to learn more about Unity vocabulary organization included in all Prentke Romich Company PRC Communication or AAC Devices. Participants will be introduced to the vocabulary options available.
This workshop will be held in the PACER computer lab where participants can bring their own device or use computer emulation software (Vantage Lite PASS software version 5.02).
The training will include hands-on experience to become familiar with how Unity supports creation of spontaneous novel communication, and to teach basic device operations such as customizing messages, changing icons, hiding keys, and backing up the device.
The presenter is PRC Regional Consultant Helen Canfield. The workshop is limited to 20 participants.

Putting LAMP (Language Acquisition through Motor Planning) to Work: AAC Strategies to Promote Communication Friday, May 20, 2011, 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mountain – PACER Center, Bloomington, MN, register
Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP) is a therapeutic approach based on neurological and motor learning principles. The goal is to give individuals who are nonverbal or have limited verbal abilities or speech a method to independently and spontaneously express themselves. This workshop is for parents, professionals, and SLPs and will give an overview of the LAMP treatment approach, discussion of the components of LAMP and how and why children with autism would benefit from using a voice output AAC device, and discussion of features that are beneficial for teaching language to children with autism and other disabilities. Lunch will not be provided. A one hour lunch break will be taken and maps to area restaurants will be provided. This free workshop will offer 0.5 ASHA CEUs.

Title IX: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." Title IX has been in schools since 1972. It's best known for breaking down barriers in sports for women and girls. It also opens the door for girls to pursue math and science. It requires fair treatment. It protects students from bullying and sexual harassment. And it does much more. This two-day workshop examines what Title IX is and what it encompasses. From sexual harassment to bullying will be among the topics covered . . . Including athletics, academic achievement, discipline, investigation, policies, procedures, and law suits. This is an excellent opportunity for each school and district to receive training on their Title IX requirements.

In this workshop Ronda will explore how to create and maintain a workable website using Google Tools. Websites can be created for a personal digital portfolio, a classroom, or a business. Participants will learn how to use many Google tools such as calendar, documents, presentation, and forms and how to incorporate them into a workable website. Ronda will cover each Google tool and give participants an opportunity to develop content that will be utilized to develop a website at the end of the workshop. Ronda McManus began working at the Career Center in 1990 as an early childhood educator. She also held a position helping high school seniors transition from high school to either a university, junior college, training, military service, or a job. Currently, Ronda integrates technology in classrooms in her position at the Billings Career Center. She collaborates and supports teachers and students using technology in their classrooms, helping to create a foundation for learning and innovation in our ever-accelerating world. Designing and Implementing Services for Gifted Students?(Program Planning)
Course Description: School teams, comprised of teachers, administrators, counselors, specialists, academic coaches or anyone working with programming options for gifted students, will be presented with the OPI Framework for Gifted Education Programs and a Gifted Program Planning Template. This is a working session, at the end of which, the teams will have a firm grasp of the state framework and will use the template to construct a gifted program that fits their district and population. Time will be provided to work on individual program plans.

Course description: This course will focus on the Identification of Advanced Learners. This will be a hands-on workshop with time for discussion and application of content to specific settings and situations.
