Finding appropriate Assistive Technology supports for students with disabilities is only half the battle.  Once this critical step is complete, the process of training and support for the student (and those working with the student) begins.  Unfortunately, due to time and other constraints, training on implementation is rarely reached, which is likely one of the reasons we see such high levels of AT abandonment across the country.  During this session the presenter will discuss emerging trends and practical tips for providing effective professional development and support to those that use (and support the use of) Assistive Technology. This course will begin by providing basic historical and current-day explanations of supported employment practices across the Pacific Northwest and the United States. Webinar will highlight the changing roles and responsibilities of stakeholders within the supported employment movement, as well as basic value principles such as people first language and self -determination. The course will also introduce you to examples of the specific components that make up supported employment, and will finish by providing you with additional resources to find more information.

This group is designed for parents who are dealing with specific challenges usually encountered once their adoptees are settled in (~ 1 year or more into the adoption), for parents with challenging children and interested others. CONNECT (formerly Together in Parenting) is a process-based support group lead by a licensed therapist that gives parents a venue in which to form an emotional connection with other parents experiencing similar issues with their children. Each month, we address concerns of parents who are present via peer support and therapeutic suggestions. Parents who are experiencing challenging times with their children find the support of other parents who have been on the adoption and parenting journey for some time to be invaluable.Therapeutic suggestions are offered when appropriate and helpful. For parents who need the support of other families who are at the beginning of the adoption journey and who would like information and the camaraderie of other families at the same early stage in the process, we offer the EQUIP support group. During this webinar, engage with Pearl Buck Center's Preschool Director, Dr. Renee Van Norman, as she describes a tiered model of prevention and promotion that focuses on providing comprehensive interventions and supports to children and their families by matching the intensity of interventions to the individual need for support (McIntosh et al., 2006). In this preschool program-wide model, universal-level supports were delivered to families through carefully crafted school-wide activities and Family Fun/Education Nights. Secondary and tertiary-level supports were provided through home visits and classroom instruction. Assessment data and related tools as part of a system of continuous quality improvement will be shared.

This session will explore free web-based tools that support the basic constructs of Universal Design for Learning. Strategies for engaging learners to write and express their knowledge creatively using these tools will be highlighted throughout the session. Participants will walk away with ideas that they can put to use right away without the need for purchasing new equipment or software.

Participants will explore a range of free web-based tools, such as PhotoPeach, GingerSoft, Animoto, and Read/Write/Think that can be used to support writing for students with diverse needs. They will learn how utilizing multimedia applications along with spelling and grammar supports can engage reluctant writers and promote the type of written language skills required in most standards based educational settings. Participants will learn how to maximize the use of tools that are free or low cost in these cost cutting times and how to integrate them with tools that they may already have. When:
