This Support Group is for parents of children with behavioral and emotional issues. The group meets once a month for the purpose of supporting one another and sharing resources. This month come visit and share ideas for summer activities with the kids. A light dinner will be provided.

This group is designed for parents who are dealing with specific challenges usually encountered once their adoptees are settled in (~ 1 year or more into the adoption), for parents with challenging children and interested others. CONNECT (formerly Together in Parenting) is a process-based support group lead by a licensed therapist that gives parents a venue in which to form an emotional connection with other parents experiencing similar issues with their children. Each month, we address concerns of parents who are present via peer support and therapeutic suggestions. Parents who are experiencing challenging times with their children find the support of other parents who have been on the adoption and parenting journey for some time to be invaluable. Child care will be available if this is determined to be a need of the group. When:

The Jargon Free Lecture is a half-day training program using a "jargon free" explanation of the Institute for Applied Behavior Analysis (IABA) multi-element model and the use of positive practices in support of individuals with challenging and complex behavioral needs. This training is  designed for persons who may or may not have received professional training who implement support plans  with persons with developmental disabilities and generally provide a variety of services at many levels in public and private schools, residential settings, personal homes and supported work and other adult day programs.  This training is open to all interested persons.

What:
The Pyramid Model for Supporting Social Emotional Competence in Infants and Young Children is a conceptual framework of evidence-based practices developed by two national, federally-funded research and training centers: The Center for the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL) and The Technical Assistance Center for Social Emotional Intervention (TACSEI). Most recently, TACSEI developed a family coaching approach for implementing the Pyramid Model with caregivers in homes. This approach was developed to support home visitors who are working with caregivers of infants and toddlers with or at-risk for disabilities. The approach focuses on supporting home visitors in the use of evidence-based family coaching strategies to enhance caregivers' capacity to promote their infant or toddlers' social emotional competence. This presentation will describe the family coaching approach to implementing the pyramid model. When:

Behavior Management Academy Overview: The purpose of this academy is to provide the paraprofessional with the information and skills needed to assist classroom teachers in meeting the behavior needs of a variety of students. It deals with rules, routines, and procedures for students. The paraprofessional will be able to identify behavior, the motivations for behavior, and be able to teach and reinforce behaviors. An understanding of the role of the paraprofessional in behavior support will be developed.
Autism Spectrum Disorders Academy Overview: The purpose of this Academy is to provide the paraeducator with information and skills to be able to assist teachers in the instruction of students with autism. It gives factual information to dispel the many myths that abound in the field of autism, and emphasizes the relationship between communication and behavior. This webinar offers an overview of hospice care, grief, grief support and how it can help individuals with intellectual disabilities cope during these difficult times.  Throughout the presentation Amy Tucci and Kenneth Doka from the Hospice Foundation of America will touch upon the special issues involving access and services for individuals with ID and focus on the ways that families and persons with ID can more effectively utilize the services of hospice care, such as supportive counseling, pain management, and symptom control as well as grief counseling. Learn about their new CE credited educational program that deals with the challenges of accessing end-of-life care and bereavement support for individuals with ID coming up in late October.
