Visible Tweets - 0 views

  •
A bit like those PowerPoint effects which make you ponder why they are included, the Visible Tweets visualisations are a bit lost on me however some others enjoy the eye candy of seeing tweets performing gyrations on their screen. An interesting concept nonetheless :).
  •
Visible Tweets is a visualisation of Twitter messages designed for display in public spaces. We used this at the ACCE2010 conference in Melbourne with some great posts by the delegates.

From Camilla Elliott. A gateway to understanding life outside your home. Use the country comparison tool to compare living conditions in your own country to those of another. You can also use the visualisation tool to help understand the impact of a disaster. The Pakistan Flood and BP Oil Spill are currently featured. Advertising and comments are a problem for classroom use but still a valuable teaching tool.

8 Aboriginal Ways of Learning - 6 views

  •
"This Aboriginal pedagogy framework is expressed as eight interconnected pedagogies involving narrative-driven learning, visualised learning plans, hands-on/reflective techniques, use of symbols/metaphors, land-based learning, indirect/synergistic logic, modelled/scaffolded genre mastery, and connectedness to community. But these can change in different settings."

WordSift - Visualize Text - 0 views

  •
WordSift is another visualisation tool that was created primarily for teachers. It works just like Wordle but just a bit better. All you need do is paste in the text and then sit back. The sifted words then show up in orange or green and the fun really begins. This tool would be lots of fun on an IWB as well as on your own computer. Don't miss checking out the About section for more thoughts on using it.

"Learning how to "live" in a virtual world. Absorbing information. Setting up an Educational venue. What is a virtual world? A virtual world is "an online electronic presence that imitates real life in the form of a personal presence through someone's avatar (the alter ego which is a graphical representation of themself in the virtual world)". Social Networks in Action - Learning Networks @ UOW - 1 views

  • SNAPP is a software tool that allows users to visualize the network of interactions resulting from discussion forum posts and replies.
  • Discussion forum activity is a good indicator of student interactions and is systemically captured by most LMS. SNAPP uses information on who posted and replied to whom, and what major discussions were about, and how expansive they were, to analyse the interactions of a forum and display it in a Social Network Diagram. The following figures illustrate how SNAPP re-interprets discussion forum postings into a network diagram.
  • What can a network diagram tell me? A network diagram is a visual depiction of all interactions occurring among students and staff. This information provides rapid identification of the levels of engagement and network density emerging from any implemented online learning activities. Social network visualisations provide a snapshot of who is communicating with whom and to what level. A network diagram of your students’ discussions online can:

The Anatomy Of An Infographic: 5 Steps To Create A Powerful Visual | SpyreStudios - 4 views

  •
A good post about infographics. Information is very powerful but can also be presented in a way that is bland and unimaginative. Infographics impart information in a visually pleasing and sometimes a more understandable manner, making it more powerful. Inforgraphics have now permeated all aspects of the modern information world.

This slideshow is a colllection of maps, models, and visualizations from a range of sources and places on the web aimed at helping to understand the components that make up Web 2.0 as well as how they fit together. It has been created and assembled by the good folk at www.EdVibes.com. As with all things Web 2.0 however at least one of the maps, that from informationarchitects has already been updated.
