So how to assess large numbers. Traditionally this been done through tests and exams which can be easily marked by assessors. Whilst these make the assessment process manageable for the tutors, they offer little more than a mark or grade to the students - since very often there is no feedback-feedforward loop associated with the grade. Also tests and exams are not the best assessment strategy for all situations and purposes.

The Studywiz ePortfolio gives students an individual space for capturing progress and achievement while building a sense of pride and accomplishment. Studywiz ePortfolio enables students to store a variety of rich media materials including digital photos, scanned documents, video and audio clips and to arrange these records of learning in collections for a range of purposes. Teachers are easily able to assess their students' learning progress as well as using collections for formal summative assessment. Studywiz ePortfolio comprises four areas that enable students to plan for learning and manage their records or evidence of learning. The Studywiz ePortfolio meets the specifications recommended by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC):

Energy Kids is a website produced by the US Energy Information Administration for the purpose of educating students about energy and its many forms. Energy Kids provides a wealth of easily accessible information about energy which students can use to play games, solve riddles, and take quizzes about energy. Some of the games students will find include Energy Sudoku, crossword puzzles, and riddles. Energy Kids also provides students of all ages with ideas and outlines for science fair projects around the energy theme. The science fair projects are available as free PDF downloads.

Interesting website that lists what copyright works enter the public domain each year. Leon Trotsky has just been added to the list.

Perhaps you've attended some high brow conference that produces 10 bullet points on "How to Change Education"- and not much happens. Maybe you work an at institution that restricts you from using a certain technology or forces you to use another. And while the image of a revolutionary edupunk is charming, most of us are not ready to burn down our organizations- we believe in their purpose. Despair not! There is something out there- an approach of creatively side stepping what limits us, to exploiting what we are forced to use in new ways, to sneak innovations in the back window that don't rock the house.

This is a fantastic web 2.0 tool. Upload images and annotate. You can other embed media inside the annotations. Annotations pop up as you click or hover over the objects you add. You can embed the annotated image into webpage or blog. This could be a useful tool for teachers and students. Lots of scope for creativity with layers etc. You can share to a group and set editing permissions for public or restricted people/groups for collaboration purposes. 

The purpose of the Video Standards Report - 2011 is to provide information to help  e-learning content developers make informed decisions about the use of video formats, codecs and delivery systems for e-learning video content. The report is intended to be used in conjunction with the current VET standards, which are available at: http://e-standards.flexiblelearning.net.au/topics/formats.htmWhere possible, this report aims to ensure that VET video standards support current and future needs of VET e-learning practitioners, particularly given the fast-changing digital media landscape. SCAMPER is an acronym for another of those interesting thinking tools used to spark creative approaches to a situation or problem. It is a checklist designed to force one to think about and look at things in different ways. This post is interesting because of the visual approach that the author takes to Substituting, Combining, Adapting, Modifying or magnifying, Purposing, Eliminating or Reverse/rearranging.
