Zoom.it is an application for displaying large images in blogs, wikis, and websites. Zoom.it creates a display of your images in a format that allows you to zoom in, zoom out, and scroll around a large image. To use Zoom.it your image does need to be hosted online somewhere (Flickr and Picasa work fine). Then to create your zoomable image just copy the url of your hosted image and paste it into Zoom.it. You can then share your image by giving people the direct link to it or embedding the image into your blog or website.

Fumpr is a newly launched image hosting service that claims to be web's fastest image host. According to the site the images are served under .01 seconds on average. The site got a simple and visually appealing interface. No registration or email required. Simply choose the image you want to store with them and click the upload button. Once the image is uploaded you are given four different links to share it on the web. These include a separate link for sharing the image with friends, direct download, adding images to forum threads and embed code.

Imageoid is a free, simple service for adding a variety of effects to your images. To use Imageoid you just upload an image from your computer then choose the effect(s) you want to apply to it. You can combine effects if you like. If you don't like the way your image looks with a chosen effect, just click "reset" to start again. Imageoid can also be used to resize your image. Imageoid offers twenty-two effects that you can apply to your image. Below you can see the before and after of one of my images.

This is a collection of images developed by Ian Britton. FreeFoto offers a mix images that are available for free and for a licensing fee. Students can use the images on FreeFoto for free provided that they adhere to the student use guidelines. Visitors to FreeFoto can search for images by keyword or they can browse the galleries. The galleries are arranged by the locations of where the images were captured, by natural subject (sunsets, seasons), and many other subjects.

Image recommendations Images insuggest is a fun way to browse images from Flickr. Select a couple of images you like and you will instantly get recommendations from like-minded people. Bookmark based recommendations Bookmarks insuggest helps you find new web sites by analyzing your del.iciou.us bookmarks. Filter specific tags to change the results.

"SepiaTown lets you view and share thousands of mapped historical images from around the globe." In most cases you can then compare the historical image with current images. At the moment there don't appear to be any Australian images posted so there is a great opportunity for Australian schools to become involved.

A website that lets users create image-based quizzes with ease. Upload your image, choose a title, and begin tagging the locations of the labels. Tagging works by drawing on the image to define what the quiz should test people on, and then labeling each of those tags. It is very easy to use and has a basic, simple interface and best of all - no signup required! This means you can get students to create their own quizzes without worrying about them having to create accounts and then forgetting the passwords

ThingLink is a simple-to-use website designed to make images more interactive. Originally created for fashion marketing in Europe, it works similar to tagging photos on Facebook or Flickr but goes one step further by allowing the user to embed 'media-rich tags' into the image that link back to any web content.

Cloud Canvas is a free online image editing and image creation tool. Cloud Canvas fits in a niche somewhere between a simple drawing tool and a full-blown image editor like Aviary. If all you need is a tool for drawing simple pictures and diagrams, Cloud Canvas has you covered

"Do we read images in the same way we read words on a page? While they can both easily transcribe the same idea onto paper I do not believe we follow the same rules while viewing them. From Robin Good: Beeclip EDU is a web app which allows anyone to easily combine images, video and texts to create instructional scrapbooks, moodboards, collages or portfolios. Images can be easily searched and imported via Google Images and Flickr, and text can be easily added in a number ways. Visual objects can be positioned and personalized on the page and final scrapbooks can be downloaded or printed. Free to use. Can be tested without registering.

"Images of wild animals are sent to you directly from small automatic cameras placed in remote locations. When you identify the wild animal by matching the photo with the relevant image in the Field Guide you save conservationist thousands of hours by helping to sort the images by species group. This enables scientists to analyze the data much faster and assess whether the threatened animals are increasing or decreasing."

Error level analysis seeks to prove that whether or not an image has been altered. It takes the image and shows differing error levels throughout it, strongly suggesting some form of digital manipulation. Areas to note are the lips and shirt, as well as the eyes. All are at significantly different error levels than their surroundings. Presumably, colours have been altered and areas brightened.
