The July 12 issue of eCampus News includes an article discussing recent changes in colleges students' financial aid packages caused by Congress's sequestration talks. The article includes comment from Oracle customer, Marquette University in which Tara O'Neill, Associate Director of the Office of Finance and Student Financial Aid noted that if this would have happened in the mid-2000s, schools would not be able to make the proper adjustments needed. However, with technological advancements in its financial aid office, Marquette was able to notify students of possible aid changes within 30 minutes of getting word from the federal government. The article notes that Marquette uses PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Student Financing system which provides constant updates to federal rules and regulations surrounding financial aid.

Accenture and Oracle have developed a new cloud-based financial solution designed to help hospitality companies improve business management by giving them better access to real-time financial data. The Accenture Oracle business group's new hospitality finance cloud solution enables companies to access financial data in real-time from multiple data sources, such as internal property management systems and external financial institutions, and connects to existing on-property systems to automate workflow approvals and establish standardized operations processes.

The June 20 edition of Campus Technology includes an article highlighting six project management practices when implementing a new IT project. One practice focuses on "invest in discovery," which notes that The City University of New York (CUNY) chose Oracle PeopleSoft to handle integration work when replacing its systems for finance, human resources and student administration. CUNY asked Oracle to participate in an extensive discovery process before the contract was signed. The article explains that the process gave both sides a chance to understand each requirement in depth, helped CUNY avoid major fees during the implementation phase, and gave CUNY an opportunity to understand Oracle's implementation methodology.

The October 16 edition of The Daily Tar Heel includes an article highlighting the University of North Carolina's implementation of Oracle's PeopleSoft system to manage the University's finances. The article notes that the implementation of this software will alter services some human resources facilitators are expected to carry out. The article also notes that about 190 of 335 facilitators across campus will be trained to do more complex transactions with PeopleSoft. Those facilitators without access to PeopleSoft will be repurposed in their department.

The March 28 edition of Yale Daily News includes the following article highlighting that university administrators are currently determining the best approach for upgrading Yale University's aging Oracle computer system - a set of applications that handle finance, budgeting, payroll and other administrative tasks.  The article notes that updating the current system will ensure the software continues to operate efficiently and effectively.  The article also notes that administrators will reach a decision about the upgrade before the fiscal year ends on June 30.

The retailer is working with software giant Oracle on what Mr. Sadove called "a substantial multiyear transformation of an investment in systems and technology." Project Evolution will deliver new merchandising, finance and human resources systems and capabilities and … supply us with the modern technology platform to support omnichannel for the future," Mr. Sadove said on a conference call

Meanwhile, Saks is working with Oracle in an ambitious project called Project Evolution that will deliver new computer systems including merchandising and finance. That will help Saks meld its online business with its physical stores. For example, by fall 2013, the company plans to be able to fulfill online orders from its Saks Fifth Avenue stores.

Saks, Inc. is evolving to embrace omni-channel retailing through a series of infrastructure and systems enhancements slated to take place over the next several years. This is a transitional time for the company and these investments will position Saks for the future, allowing it to deliver incremental sales and improve operating margins over time.  To support its omni-channel and IT initiatives, Saks will invest one-third of its $120 million CapEx on Project Evolution, a multi-year transformation of and investment in systems technology with Oracle. Project Evolution will deliver new merchandising, finance and human resources systems and capabilities on an integrated application suite for the entire business.

The February 1 edition of Campus Technology includes the following article highlighting that the University of Puget Sound selected Oracle's PeopleSoft applications and Oracle Hyperion Public Sector Budgeting and Planning running on Oracle Database to facilitate information exchange and enhance strategic reporting capabilities.  The article notes that the new systems will overhaul the university's legacy student, financial and human resources systems.  The article includes comment by Sherry Mondou, vice president for finance and administration, University of Puget Sound who notes that by moving to an integrated Oracle software environment, the university will realize a tremendous opportunity to transform and streamline its operating processes.
