Must Have Life-long Learning Tools and Strategies for Teachers ~ Educational Technology... - 3 views

  •
A teacher is a life long learner, in fact, everyone should be a lifelong learner, but the difference between us ( teachers and educators ) and others is that we have no choice but to be life long learners. We can not stop learning for fear that we might be outrun by our students.
  •
Interesting way to frame teachers' life long learning: "for fear that we might be outrun by our students". The author also tells teachers that they need to lead students, "not lag behind". These ideas bring up interesting questions around self-directed learning and participatory learning environments, which might actually celebrate times when students outrun their teachers by finding new tools and solutions and leading their teachers in different directions.

This is a very practical document that can be used for preparing school teachers. Information literacy skills are important skills that young people should aquire at schools, and teachers need to have specific training for this.

#2minPD is here - 3 views

This site brings the concept of participatory culture to teacher professional development. I see it as an aspect of citizen activism because it is essentially taking the old idea of "professional development" (US teachers are probably all too familiar with sitting in a room while someone from a publisher makes them go page by page through a binder of photocopiable worksheets) and turns it on its head. #2minpd is teachers creating the professional development and sharing it in a format that does not demean participants.

The future of learning - 5 views

Interesting video with ideas about Education.

Education is due for a change, beginning with training teachers to teach in new ways. Learning needs also vary, making it important for a teacher to be able to teach in a variety of ways to get knowledge across, e.g., math solutions may be achieved in several ways - one student may get it the first time while another may need a different explanation. Young people need to be encouraged to learn and know that learning will get them somewhere. Finding a teaching model that works for the majority is definitely a challenge - perhaps more than one or a combination of models?

A Shift In Academic Thinking About Knowledge Exchange | KMbeing - 1 views

  •
"So what does knowledge mobilization mean for education? It asks us to reimagine what it means in exchanging knowledge. It requires us to embrace being open and unselfish in our learning and knowledge exchange. It requires admitting that a large part of what continues to happen in our world isn't good for our students, our teachers, our communities - or our world. It means creating change in our education systems or risk the return to the tragedies of the early 20th century."

How to Learn Math: For Teachers and Parents - 1 views

  •
Easily one of the most influential courses I have participated in as an educator. The connection to Growth Mindset, along with the on-going "talk" around international math education sheds light on "How to Learn Math" for all. A course for teachers, parents, and students - yes; but more importantly, a course for all. Oh how I wish math had been taught, when I was in school, with this research in mind!

Digital Identity - SUNY - Tools of Engagement Project (TOEP) - 0 views

  •
What digital footprint are you building? It is good practice to review the importance of maintaining a positive digital presence with your students whenever there is an online component to a class. It is important that this "born digital" generation understands the serious, future consequences of what they post through online media. I chose this resource because it is important for teachers to show students how their digital footprint can be exposed on line and to be aware of what they are posting and how. These short videos are very informative and easy for busy teachers to learn from and share with students.
