We - students, graduate students and professors from different universities of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, CIS and non-CIS countries. We believe that the essence of higher education is not in memorizing 30-40 books on the list of disciplines. A good engineer - not the one who knows by heart the formulas, theorems and methods, and the one who knows the ways of solving problems and approaches to the study of various problems.

The Participatory Museum is a practical guide to working with community members and visitors to make cultural institutions more dynamic, relevant, essential places. It was written by me, Nina Simon. I'm an exhibit designer, museum consultant, and the author of the Museum 2.0 blog. The book is available for purchase, perusal, and discussion.

Impact of Social Sciences - Public libraries play a central role in providing access to... - 3 views

  •
"Data connectivity is intrinsic to most of our daily lives. The place which exists in almost every community large or small, rural or urban, is the public library. Ben Lee argues that not only do libraries provide free access to data, but they do so in an environment which is trustworthy and neutral, geared to learning. Access to digital technology increasingly overlaps with access to opportunity and it is important to recognise the role public libraries already play (and have always played) in keeping the gate to knowledge open. ¿La muerte del libro?. Orden del discurso y orden de los libros - 0 views

Artículo escrito por Roger Chartier en el que habla sobre la "la muerte del libro", y como este(el libro) se transforma en una especie de diálogo entre el escritor y el lector. A mi parecer el libro no desaparecerá, solo que el hábito de lectura no de promueve como debería.

Myths and Obstacles that OERs Face - 0 views

From this article: Many organizations wanting to create educational materials find out during negotiations with authors that most of them are ultimately willing to openly license their materials. However this often requires overcoming their personal fears about OERs. Many authors are unfamiliar with the concept of an open license and open educational resources. Even if they hear about them, Saylor.org found that "chief concerns included the loss of control of materials, commercial reproduction, and loss of traffic/ad revenue" (6). And a chart : Fig. 1. What are most typical arguments you hear against Open Educational Resources? OER community experts survey.

Participatory Culture, Agency, and the Development of Worldview Literacy - 2 views

  •
Schlitz M, Vieten C, Miller E. Journal of Consciousness Studies. 2010 July-Aug;17(7-8):18-36. "In this paper, we examine how increasing understanding and explicit awareness of social consciousness can develop through transformations in worldview." In order to develop a participatory culture which allows for participation by people from different cultural, educational and political backgrounds to the dominant Western culture in the digital domain, it is argued that Worldview Literacy needs to be cultivated, and tolerance learned for different worldviews. This would facilitate participation by all, and prevent the silencing and exclusion from agency of those from different backgrounds.
