Macmillan South Africa - 0 views

Education South Africa - February 2013 With the 2012 Limpopo textbook delivery saga, and the rising cost of printed textbooks, one public school has decided to take a bold step into the future and convert to using E-books for all their learners.
  •
This sounds like a good idea but then the students must have the tablets and computers to be able to read the books. Unfortunately I don't think this will work in many of the poorer rural schools that need it most.
  •
The great idea of this project could be used by every educational organization, as the article say, the cost are clearly low.

DIGCOMP: A Framework for Developing and Understanding Digital Competence in Europe - 1 views

  •
In week 3 we've addressed how open knowledge can promote active citizenship. A pre-requisite for that is that individuals are equipped with the right set of digital skills. Being digital native does not necessarily imply that one is digital competent. The promotion of digital skills is at least as important as ensuring accessibility to technology. This document is a reference framework to identify what are the different elements of digital skills as these go much beyond than merely knowing how to use a computer. This has been developed by the European Commission, engaging several different stakeholders from several countries, and is being used as a support to strategies for the promotion of digital skills.

Libraries test a model for setting monographs free - University World News - 1 views

  •
Librarians love to get free books into the hands of scholars and students who need them. Publishers love it when their books find readers - but they also need to cover the costs of turning an idea into a finished monograph.

Identity development is a role that partakes every person's life. Whether their identity falls under race, gender, sexual orientation, or culture each person can connect with one of these classifications to differentiate themselves from the next. Of course there will be those who share the same classifications of identity, but will find a different aspect of themselves to further identify themselves. This article introduces the the "borderlines" of how race, culture, sexual orientation, even physiques connects and is influenced by the digital/cyber world.

  •

Connected learning is when you're pursuing expertise around something you care deeply about, and you're supported by friends & institutions who share this common passion that is tuned to the demands and opportunities of the digital age. This is the first in a series of three short animated films that explores why today's learners need a learning approach designed for our times, what connected learning looks like, and what is at stake if we do not make learning relevant.
