The purpose of the NIH Blueprint Diversity Specialized Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Advancement in Neuroscience (D-SPAN) Award is to support a defined pathway across career stages for outstanding graduate students who are from backgrounds that are nationally underrepresented in neuroscience research. The Society for Women's Health Research (SWHR) is pleased to announce a travel award opportunity for neuroscience students to present their research on sex differences in the brain at a scientific conference in 2014. SWHR is accepting applications for travel awards sponsored by Donald G. and Darel Stein in memory of Anne Hammer. Awardees must provide evidence that the poster or oral presentation has been accepted for inclusion in the conference. Funds can be used to pay for expenses associated with attending a neuroscience-related conference, including an abstract submission fee, society membership and/or conference registration, and travel and/or lodging. The research presented must stem from a current project on sex differences in neuroscience.

This award of $1000 will be given annually to a graduate student or post-doc to cover expenses for travel to the Society for Neuroscience meeting. The award will be presented at the 2013 SfN meeting in San Diego. To apply, please submit a short essay (500 words or fewer) describing your scientific background and career interests, and what you hope to gain from attending the meeting. Applications can be sent to neuron@cell.com, and the deadline is Sept. 10.

The General & Age Related Disabilities Engineering (GARDE) program supports research that will lead to the development of new technologies, devices, or software for persons with disabilities.  Research may be supported that is directed to the characterization, restoration, and/or substitution of human functional ability or cognition, or to the interaction of persons with disabilities and their environment.  Areas of particular recent interest are disability-related research in neuroscience/neuroengineering and rehabilitation robotics.  Emphasis is placed on significant advancement of fundamental engineering and scientific knowledge and not on incremental improvements.  Proposals should advance discovery or innovation beyond the frontiers of current knowledge in disability-related research.  Applicants are encouraged to contact the Program Director prior to submitting a proposal. Undergraduate Engineering Design Projects are also supported, especially those that provide prototype "custom-designed" devices or software for persons with disabilities.  The education of undergraduate engineering students is enhanced through Undergraduate Engineering Design Projects' awards supported by the GARDE program. 

The intent of this grant is to fund innovative psychological science research projects. Students in all fields of psychology and neuroscience and are APAGS members are eligible to submit. Funds for this $1,000 scholarship must be used to support the proposed research. This grant may be used for thesis, dissertation or other research.

The intent of the Junior Scientist Fellowship is two-fold: to provide funding for a first- or second-year graduate level project and to provide constructive feedback to select applicants to increase their chances of achieving success on a future National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship application. The primary intent is to recognize outstanding research-oriented students who are entering their first year (or first semester of second year) of graduate study and to help them get their research off the ground. Graduate students from research-based psychology and neuroscience programs are eligible to apply. The second intent of this fellowship is to provide written feedback to select applicants. Many students apply for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship (eligibility requirements for the NSF fellowship) without ever having applied for a research fellowship. It is our intent to provide feedback to select applicants so that they can use that feedback to strengthen their NSF graduate fellowship application.

This award is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled in or have recently completed (within the past calendar year) formal education in science or medical journalism; formal education in general journalism and can adequately demonstrate the intent to primarily cover science or medicine; or formal education in a scientific or medical field and can adequately demonstrate the intent to primarily cover science or medicine.

The purpose of the Kirschstein-NRSA postdoctoral fellowship is to enhance the research training of promising postdoctoral candidates who have the potential to become productive, independent investigators in scientific health-related research fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers.

The purpose of the Kirschstein-NRSA predoctoral fellowship (F31) award is to enable promising predoctoral students to obtain individualized, mentored research training from outstanding faculty sponsors while conducting dissertation research in scientific health-related fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers. The proposed mentored research training must reflect the applicants dissertation research project and is expected to clearly enhance the individuals potential to develop into a productive, independent research scientist.

The Epilepsy Foundation supports a series of grants and fellowships to advance the understanding of epilepsy that will lead to better treatment, more effective prevention, and ultimately to a cure. NSF and selected foreign counterpart science and technology agencies sponsor international research institutes for U.S. graduate students in seven East Asia and Pacific locations at times set by the counterpart agencies between June and August each year. The Summer Institutes (EAPSI) operate similarly and the research visits to a particular location take place at the same time. Although applicants apply individually to participate in a Summer Institute, awardees become part of the cohort for each location. Applicants must propose a location, host scientist, and research project that is appropriate for the host site and duration of the international visit. An EAPSI award provides U.S. graduate students in science, engineering, and education: 1) first-hand research experiences in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, or Taiwan; 2) an introduction to the science, science policy, and scientific infrastructure of the respective location; and 3) an orientation to the society, culture, and language. It is expected that EAPSI awards will help students initiate professional relationships to enable future collaboration with foreign counterparts. The NSF award includes participation in the Pre-Departure Orientation, summer stipend of $5,000, and roundtrip airplane ticket to the host location. EAPSI partner agencies pay in-country living expenses during the Summer Institutes.

With more than fifty thousand members and certified professionals from ninety countries around the globe, the American College of Sports Medicine represents seventy occupations within the field of sports medicine. From academicians to students and from personal trainers to physicians, ACSM is dedicated to helping people worldwide live longer, healthier lives. To advance this mission, the association established the Research Grant Program through the ACSM Foundation, its charitable arm, in 1989. Through the program, grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to support basic and applied research in exercise science. Funding is primarily targeted to new or junior investigators within seven years of attaining a terminal degree (e.g., PhD, EdD) and is expected to provide seed money support after which further funding would be sought from other sources. The goal of the Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) program is to prepare graduate students for science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) careers critically important to the DOE Office of Science mission, by providing graduate thesis research opportunities at DOE laboratories.  The SCGSR program provides supplemental awards to outstanding U.S. graduate students to pursue part of their graduate thesis research at a DOE laboratory in areas that address scientific challenges central to the Office of Science mission. The research opportunity is expected to advance the graduate students' overall doctoral thesis while providing access to the expertise, resources, and capabilities available at the DOE laboratories.
