The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General in Kolkata (PAS Kolkata) seeks proposals for a project entitled "EcoCinema: A Greener World through Art." Under this project, a grantee will organize and implement a two-day film and arts festival in Kolkata followed by a tour in a minimum of three cities, focused on generating awareness on creating a sustainable environment in East India and promoting sustainable environmental practices. The selected grantee will initiate a competition for films (both short and long form) and artworks such as paintings, photographs and murals to be showcased during a two-day long film and arts festival entitled "EcoCinema: A Greener World through Art." Artworks should focus on the natural world, air quality, sustainability, recycling and green practices. Films and artwork will be exhibited in tandem at the American Center and other locations in Kolkata. Unconventional art exhibition spaces, such as universities, public parks, metro stations, are encouraged. Festival promotion should include both tradition and digital media. The Pacific Life Foundation accepts grant proposals from agencies seeking funds for programs and projects in the areas of health and human services; education; arts and culture; and civic, community, and environment.

Save America's Treasures grants from the Historic Preservation Fund provide preservation and/or conservation assistance to nationally significant historic properties and collections. Grants are awarded through a competitive process and require a dollar-for-dollar, non-Federal match, which can be cash or documented in-kind. These grants are administered by the National Park Service in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The Foundation will consider requests to support museums, cultural, and performing arts programs; schools, hospitals, educational and skills training programs, programs for youth, seniors, and the handicapped; environmental and wildlife protection activities; and other community-based organizations and their programs. Grants typically range from $1,000 to $20,000.

Travel bursaries are available to participate in this project, which uses Rachel Carson's 'Silent Spring' to explore the relationship between arts and science research through two workshops at the University of York and Birkbeck, London in 2013, the first at York on Friday 1st March 2013. We can offer a limited amount of bursaries for up to £50 (on provision of receipts) to post-graduates and early career researchers for travel to York. We welcome applications from students across the Humanities and Sciences and hope this will be a lively day full of discussion, inviting participants to share an informal five-minute summary of their work in a final roundtable. A number of travel bursaries are available for postgraduates and early career researchers to participate in this project on Friday 7th June 2013 at Birkbeck, University of London, which uses Rachel Carson's Silent Spring to explore the relationship between arts and science research.

In collaboration with the university science community, NCAR scientists focus on fundamental research aimed at improving our ability to predict meteorological, air quality and space weather hazards and increasing our understanding of the variability in and changes to the Earth's climate system at regional and global scales. These research themes are enabled by NCAR-operated facilities such as two highly modified aircraft (a C-130Q Hercules and a Gulfstream-V); a petascale supercomputing center in Cheyenne, Wyoming; and state-of-the-art community models, including the Community Earth System Model (CESM), the Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF) and the Whole Atmosphere Community Climate Model (WACCM). Partnerships with researchers in complementary fields, such as hydrology, cryospheric science, oceanography, terrestrial biology, public health and social sciences, to name a few, broaden NCAR's activities beyond the traditional atmospheric and geospace sciences. The goal of the Energy for Sustainability program is to support fundamental engineering research that will enable innovative processes for the sustainable production of electricity and fuels, and for energy storage. Processes for sustainable energy production must be environmentally benign, reduce greenhouse gas production, and utilize renewable resources. Research projects that stress molecular level understanding of phenomena that directly impacts key barriers to improved system level performance (e.g. energy efficiency, product yield, process intensification) are encouraged. Proposed research should be inspired by the need for economic and impactful conversion processes. All proposals should include in the project description, how the proposed work, if successful, will improve process realization and economic feasibility and compare the proposed work against current state-of-the-art. Highly integrated multidisciplinary projects are encouraged.

This announcement seeks out technologies and methodologies to reduce environmental impacts from current and past Navy operations, and applies to Navy installations worldwide. NAVFAC EXWC is interested in environmental technologies and methodologies that are either new, innovative, advance the state-of-the-art, or increase knowledge or understanding of a technology or methodology.

Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections (SCHC) helps cultural institutions meet the complex challenge of preserving large and diverse holdings of humanities materials for future generations by supporting sustainable conservation measures that mitigate deterioration and prolong the useful life of collections. Libraries, archives, museums, and historical organizations across the country face an enormous challenge: to preserve collections that facilitate research, strengthen teaching, and provide opportunities for life-long learning in the humanities. Ensuring the preservation of books and manuscripts, photographs, sound recordings and moving images, archaeological and ethnographic artifacts, art, and historical objects requires institutions to implement measures that slow deterioration and prevent catastrophic loss. This work is best accomplished through preventive conservation, which encompasses managing relative humidity, temperature, light, and pollutants in collection spaces; providing protective storage enclosures and systems for collections; and safeguarding collections from theft and from natural and man-made disasters. As museums, libraries, archives, and other collecting institutions strive to be effective stewards of humanities collections, they must find ways to implement preventive conservation measures that are sustainable. This program therefore helps cultural repositories plan and implement preservation strategies that pragmatically balance effectiveness, cost, and environmental impact. Sustainable approaches to preservation can contribute to an institution¿s financial health, reduce its use of fossil fuels, and benefit its green initiatives, while ensuring that collections are well cared for and available for use in humanities programming, education, and research.

Research proposals are sought from educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and commercial organizations for research in materials sciences; ballistics and aeromechanics sciences; information sciences; human sciences; survivability, lethality, and vulnerability analysis and assessment; chemistry; electronics; physics; environmental sciences; life sciences; mechanical sciences, mathematical sciences, computing sciences and network sciences. Proposals will be evaluated only if they are for scientific study and experimentation directed toward advancing the state of the art or increasing knowledge and understanding. ARO has primary responsibility for ARL's extramural basic research programs, with specific research interests as described in Part II.A.2. The ARL Directorates, while having primary responsibility for ARL's in-house research programs, also manage select extramural basic research programs. The research interests of the Directorates are described in Part II.A.1. Although ARL Directorates will consider funding proposals for extramural research programs, they can fund only a modest number of proposals in a single fiscal year.

Power cycles based on a supercritical carbon dioxide, SCO2, working fluid have the potential for higher thermal efficiencies and a lower capital cost when compared to state of the art steam-based power cycles. The cost and performance of recuperators are currently seen as a significant barrier to the full-scale demonstration and economic viability of SCO2 power cycle technology. The purpose of this FOA is to seek applications for the development of high temperature recuperator technologies that are capable of handling the SCO2 RCBC system requirements while also maintaining a cost effectiveness required for commercial adaptation. Modular concepts and or strategies that are capable of scalability to address the wide variation in size, capacity and temperature anticipated for the varied applications are of particular interest. Responsive applications will provide a plan for focused research and development of innovative designs, materials and manufacturing methods to produce scalable, cost- effective recuperators suitable for deployment in large-scale SCO2 power cycle applications.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide regional access for cryoelectron microscopy (cryoEM) laboratories to state-of-the-art data collection capabilities. NIGMS will support consortia of established and early stage investigator laboratories whose research has an established specialization in and dependence on cryoEM. These laboratories will coordinate with each other to share facilities and resources for direct electron detection. Consortia will consist of a host institution which already has a modern high-performing cryoEM installation and proven capabilities for high-resolution data collection, partnered with regional participating institutions. A consortium will support surplus capacity for cryoEM data collection (infrastructure and services) at the host institution and make it available as a resource for the participating regional institutions. Projects will support access for cryoEM laboratories at participating institutions to resources and services at host sites. Projects will (a) contribute to the fixed costs of maintaining the host facility and extend services in proportion to the resources dedicated to the regional users and (b) support access to the facility by the regional laboratories. The host institution need not already have an electron detector; this FOA can help fund acquisition of direct detection equipment. Support is limited to enabling the participating cryoEM laboratories to collect data and perform the initial stages of processing raw images, and does not include other research activities. Consortia will consist of a minimum of 3-5 institutions; award budgets will depend on the number and data collection needs of the regional participating cryoEM laboratories. This initiative is not intended to support service centers of the traditional type in which the host laboratory performs the cryoEM analysis for non-specialist collaborators.

The purpose of this FOA is to call for U24 cooperative agreement applications that will request funding to further develop and sustain up to three H3Africa Biorepositories, building upon existing infrastructure. The H3Africa Biorepositories will continue to have the responsibility of maintaining state of the art methods and technologies for DNA collection, processing, quality control, handling, management, and storage and of providing support services needed for bio-specimen collection and dissemination in Africa. They may also propose collection and handling of specimen types including but not limited to PBMCs, plasma, serum etc.  Biorepositories will coordinate closely with H3Africa research projects and the H3Africa Bioinformatics network (H3ABioNet) to ensure responsible stewardship of high quality biological specimens linked to well-curated phenotypic and genomic data.
