    NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary office) is seeking proposals under the Pacific Northwest B-WET Program (http://olympiccoast.noaa.gov/ocean_literacy/bwet.html). The Pacific Northwest B-WET Program is a competitive, environmental education, grants program that promotes locally relevant, experiential learning in the K-12 environment. Funded projects provide Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs) for students, related professional development for teachers, and help to support regional education and environmental priorities in the Pacific Northwest. Science Applications/National Priority Initiative for Monarchs - 0 views

    The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), Midwest Region, intends to issue a Single Source Cooperative Agreement Award without competition to the Midwest Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (MAFWA) to support a coordinating Position (State Monarch Conservation Liaison) for monarch butterfly planning and conservation primarily occurring across the MAFWA region (thirteen states and three Canadian provinces). In conjunction with its Species Status Assessment process, the Service has recently identified monarch butterfly conservation units for the U.S., including both North Core and South Core Conservation Units for the eastern monarch population. This is a new focus on those priority conservation areas and includes the need for a coordinated and expanded approach to regional monarch conservation planning and implementation in those identified priority units.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES FOR LOW IMPACT HYDROPOWER DEVELOPMENT - 0 views

    Please review important information below about the EERE Exchange website as it relates to this FOA. A recent study by Oak Ridge National Lab has shown that there is up to 60 GW of new hydropower development potential available in the United States. Most of the available sites come with challenges with regard to environmental and social sustainability and cost effective development. To address these challenges, DOE?s Water Program initiated a new technology program, HydroNEXT to focus on hydropower technology innovation that will foster development of potential new hydropower capacity in the U.S. The HydroNEXT effort continues in 2015, through this FOA, aimed at the development of suitable technologies to overcome environmental, social, and LCOE challenges. DOE will solicit innovative ideas to harness hydropower that can be rapidly built, removed, and replaced when necessary. Applicants will be encouraged to provide new concepts for alternative hydropower systems that will lower costs of civil infrastructure development, can be deployed in a maximum of 2 years with relatively low environmental impacts, and can be removed or replaced after their intended life is completed. These concepts and systems will be able to operate at a cost that is competitive with traditional sources of generation. The three topic areas covered by this FOA are outlined below: Topic Area 1: Design and laboratory testing of new rapidly deployable hydropower technologies that can be easily removed or replaced at the end of their useful life, including, but not limited to, water impounding structures, water conveying systems, and innovative pre-fabricated structures.     This notice announces the availability of funds and solicits applications from eligible entities to compete for financial assistance through the Targeted Air Shed Grant Program. This program will assist local, state and/or tribal air control agencies in developing plans, conducting demonstrations, and implementing projects in order to reduce air pollution in nonattainment areas that EPA determines are the top five most polluted areas relative to ozone (O3) or annual average fine particulate matter (PM2.5) National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). Fiscal Year 2015 Pollution Prevention Grant Program - 0 views

    EPA's Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics, Chemistry, Economic and Sustainable Strategies Division oversees the Pollution Prevention (P2) Grant Program to support State and Tribal P2 Programs administer P2 projects that will help businesses identify better environmental strategies and solutions for reducing or eliminating waste at the source. EPA anticipates it will award approximately $3.97 million in P2 grant funding in Fiscal Year 2015. Grants will be awarded and managed by EPA's ten Regional P2 Program Offices.     Power cycles based on a supercritical carbon dioxide, SCO2, working fluid have the potential for higher thermal efficiencies and a lower capital cost when compared to state of the art steam-based power cycles. The cost and performance of recuperators are currently seen as a significant barrier to the full-scale demonstration and economic viability of SCO2 power cycle technology. The purpose of this FOA is to seek applications for the development of high temperature recuperator technologies that are capable of handling the SCO2 RCBC system requirements while also maintaining a cost effectiveness required for commercial adaptation. Modular concepts and or strategies that are capable of scalability to address the wide variation in size, capacity and temperature anticipated for the varied applications are of particular interest. Responsive applications will provide a plan for focused research and development of innovative designs, materials and manufacturing methods to produce scalable, cost- effective recuperators suitable for deployment in large-scale SCO2 power cycle applications.

U.S. WIND MANUFACTURING: LARGER BLADES TO ACCESS GREATER WIND RESOURCES AND LOWER COSTS - 0 views

    Please review important information below about the EERE Exchange website as it relates to this FOA. This FOA supports Research and Development (R&D) partnerships leading to innovative designs and processes for the manufacturing and assembly of wind turbine blades in order to facilitate deployment of the next generation of multi-megawatt wind turbines. Supported projects will develop cost-competitive integrated solutions that address the challenges of fabricating, transporting overland, and assembling rotor blades longer than 60m, with design concepts scalable to greater lengths, and installing them at wind turbine hub heights of at least 120m. This FOA is intended to be forward-looking in addressing U.S. market dynamics and domestic manufacturing opportunities through innovative solutions to constructing and assembling larger blades directly applicable to mitigating U.S. transportation constraints. Awards under the FOA will support partnerships between DOE and research and development (R&D) teams, including manufacturers. The objectives of this FOA are to: 1. Reduce the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) of land-based wind power in appropriate wind regimes by enabling the use of taller towers over their entire lifecycle, allowing wind turbines to capture stronger wind resources aloft. 2. Increase the wind turbine deployment opportunities in lower wind speed regions across the country where wind energy has previously been more expensive to deploy. 3. Increase U.S. competitiveness in alignment with the EERE Clean Energy Manufacturing Initiative (CEMI). Single Topic Area: This FOA is focused solely on R&D projects intended to raise the technology readiness level of large wind turbine blade manufacturing and installation concepts. These topics are: 1) water use reduction at thermoelectric plants; 2) treatment and management of non-traditional waters; 3) improving sustainable hydropower design and operation; 4) climate impact modeling, methods, and scenarios to support improved energy and water systems understanding; and 5) data and analysis to inform planning, policy, and other decisions. Each responsive proposal will address all five topics; DOE is offering a mechanism to facilitate partnering during the Application process. The Consortium that is funded through this solicitation will form a new technical track under the U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center, which is a bilateral initiative to encourage R&D collaboration and accelerate technology development and deployment in both countries (see: http://www.us-china-cerc.org). ASSISTING FEDERAL FACILITIES WITH ENERGY CONSERVATION TECHNOLOGIES (AFFECT), FY 2015 - 0 views

    As part of DOE?s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), FEMP works with key individuals to accomplish energy change within organizations by bringing expertise from all levels of project and policy implementation to enable Federal agencies to meet energy-related goals and to provide energy leadership to the country. The AFFECT FOA for FY 2015 will provide direct funding to Federal agencies for the development of capital projects to initiate, supplement, improve or otherwise increase the viability and deployment of renewable energy investments at U.S. Federal government-owned facilities. The intent of the AFFECT FOA is for these capital projects to help facilitate the wider adoption of these technologies at other Federal facilities. Using the authority provided in Public Law 102-486, funding provided under the AFFECT FOA will implement FEMP?s continuing efforts to promote widespread energy efficiency and renewable energy technology dep loyment in the Federal sector. The Fuel Cell Technologies Office (FCTO) is a key component of the Department of Energy?s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) portfolio. The FCTO aims to provide clean, safe, secure, affordable, and reliable energy from diverse domestic resources, providing the benefits of increased energy security and reduced criteria pollutants and green-house gas emissions by adopting a technology?neutral approach toward applied research, develoment, and demonstration to address both key technical challenges for fuel cells and hydrogen fuels (i.e. hydrogen production, delivery and storage) and institutional barriers such as hydrogen codes and standards. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) covers a broad spectrum of the FCTO portfolio with areas of interest ranging from research and development (R&D) to demonstration and deployment projects. In particular, the R&D areas of interest for this FOA include hydrogen production via microbial biomass conversion; low pla tinum group metals (PGM) catalyst development for polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell applications; development of an integrated intelligent hydrogen dispenser; and fuel cell and hydrogen manufacturing R&D focusing on hydrogen delivery pipeline manufacturing R&D.     The United States Department of Energy National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) is seeking innovative research and development of the key crosscutting technologies (sensors and controls, high performance materials, simulation based engineering, and water management research) to enable development of next generation advanced energy systems. These technologies will contribute to the goals of high efficiency, near-zero emissions, and effective carbon capture for the next generation energy systems. Innovations in these areas are being supported by NETLs Crosscutting Research Program which aims at bridging the gap between the basic sciences and applied research as it relates to Advanced Energy Systems that utilize domestic resources. Long range transitional type research is needed to support the identification and growth of novel concepts that will lead to scientific breakthroughs and early adoption of innovative concepts into applications for power generation.     DARPA seeks to transform the energy efficiency of unattended sensors through elimination or substantial reduction of the stand-by power consumed by the sensors while they await a signature of interest. The improved energy efficiency is expected to result in an increase in the sensor mission lifetime from months to years. The Near Zero Power RF and Sensor Operations (N-ZERO) program aims to create intelligent sensors that can process and detect RF and physical sensor signatures, consume less than 10 nW of power, and attain a low false alarm rate of 1 per hour or better in an urban environment.
