Beta Glucan and its use in the alternative treatment of cancer - 0 views

  •
Beta Glucan is primarily cultured extract of Baker's Yeast cell wall. It is used as an immunostimulant.  Beta glucans are sugar molecules (polysaccharides). They are found bound together as a sugar/protein complex.  Certain plants and microorganisms are naturally high in this polysaccharide compound.  The richest concentrated source is baker's yeast cell walls. (Because there is basically no yeast left in the products and they have low protein levels, it is considered hypoallergenic.) It is present in lesser amounts in mushroom extracts and Lentinen, Barley, Oat, etc. Sodium alginate is also an excellent source, but the high sodium content is a major drawback in the processing for supplemental use. An expensive research extract called Zymosan™ has been used for doing research for over 45 years. Much of the research has been in combining it with conventional approaches, such as chemotherapy, but it has been found to work well on its own.

Regular Blood Pressure is on Bad Terms with Processed Foods | The Diabetes Club - 0 views

  •
To achieve regular blood pressure, you may want to cut out most canned and junk foods unless they are clearly labeled unsalted or no salt added. Try to stay away from commercial frozen dinners or prepackaged "instant" meals because although some are now low in fat, not many are low enough in sodium. And the same goes for fast foods, most of which are loaded with sodium and fat.

Mango Dash: How to Make Fresh Artificial Mango Juice - 0 views

  •
Summer is one of the only times when one can enjoy the true ecstasy of fresh mango juice. Usually bottled mango juices and drinks have a kind of uniform taste and flavor. But you can make fresh mango juice at home with different types of mangoes, and enjoy different flavors in mango juice. Juice made from fresh mangoes has very refreshing taste. You can decrease or increase the quantity of water in the recipe. It depends on how intense or less mango flavor you want in your juice. I would not recommend making juice thin like maaza or slice. Because store bought beverage has artificial flavor. While we are using fresh mangoes without any artificial flavors. So to make intense mango flavored juice, keep it little thick (not thick like milkshake or smoothie). I wanted only mango flavor in the juice, so I have not added any other flavoring ingredient. Ingredients for artificial Mango Juice: Nutrition Facts of Mango Juice per 100 ml Energy: 58 Kcal Fat: NIL Carbohydrate: 14.6 g Vitamin C: 10.34 mg Sugar: 14.5 g Iron: 0.3 mg Protein: 0.11 g Sodium: 15mg Mango Juice Recipe 500ml water 1 cup sugar (P32.50 per kilo) 1/4 teaspoon xanthan gum (P60 per 60 grams) 1/8 teaspoon sodium benzoate (P16 per 100 grams) 1/2 teaspoon citric acid (P66 per kilo) 1/8 teaspoon flavoring Mango juice Product Range We are an eminent manufacturer, supplier and exporter of an array of quality Juices. Ketogenic diets and physical performance - Nutrition & Metabolism | Full text - 0 views

Ketogenic diets and physical performance. Phinney SD. Nutr Metab (Lond). 2004 Aug 17;1(1):2. PMID: 15507148 doi:10.1186/1743-7075-1-2 Impaired physical performance is a common but not obligate result of a low carbohydrate diet. Lessons from traditional Inuit culture indicate that time for adaptation, optimized sodium and potassium nutriture, and constraint of protein to 15-25 % of daily energy expenditure allow unimpaired endurance performance despite nutritional ketosis. Both observational and prospectively designed studies support the conclusion that submaximal endurance performance can be sustained despite the virtual exclusion of carbohydrate from the human diet. Clearly this result does not automatically follow the casual implementation of dietary carbohydrate restriction, however, as careful attention to time for keto-adaptation, mineral nutriture, and constraint of the daily protein dose is required. Contradictory results in the scientific literature can be explained by the lack of attention to these lessons learned (and for the most part now forgotten) by the cultures that traditionally lived by hunting. Therapeutic use of ketogenic diets should not require constraint of most forms of physical labor or recreational activity, with the one caveat that anaerobic (ie, weight lifting or sprint) performance is limited by the low muscle glycogen levels induced by a ketogenic diet, and this would strongly discourage its use under most conditions of competitive athletics.

Baked Fish Beats Fried for Omega-3 Boost - 0 views

"Study Shows Baked Fish Is Better for Heart Health Than Fried, Salted, or Dried Nov. 19, 2009 (Orlando, Fla.) -- When it comes to reaping the heart-healthy benefits of omega-3 fatty acids in fish, it often comes down to how you prepare it, a study shows. "The take-home message is that it's better to bake or boil the fish instead of frying it," says study researcher Lixin Meng, MS, a doctoral candidate at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. And adding a dash of low-sodium soy sauce will enhance the heart-healthy benefits, she tells WebMD. Eating salted, dried, or fried fish, on the other hand, is not beneficial, Meng says. "But if it's a fun occasion and you really want fried fish, do it the Japanese way -- stir-fry, rather than deep-fry it.""

"[Vitamin K and Bone Update. The biological effects of vitamin K(2) on bone quality.] Amizuka N, Li M, Guo Y, Liu Z, Suzuki R, Yamamoto T. Clin Calcium. 2009 Dec;19(12):1788-96. Japanese. PMID: 19949270 Post-transcriptional maturation with the presence of vitamin K(2) promotesgamma-carboxylation of osteocalcin, enabling further binding to hydroxyapatite, from which one could infer that vitamin K(2) increased the quality of bone matrix. For instance, vitamin K(2) rescued the impaired collagen mineralization caused by Mg insufficiency, by promoting a re-association of the process of collagen mineralization with mineralized nodules. Sodium warfarin, which antagonizes the function of vitamin K(2), reduced the binding of osteocalcin to bone matrices, and consequently resulted in crystalline particles being dispersed throughout the osteoid without forming mineralized nodules. Therefore,gamma-carboxylated Gla proteins mediated by vitamin K(2) appear to play a pivotal role in normal mineralization in bone."
